If he were four inches taller, Bass may challenge to be the #1 overall pick in the draft. While he doesn't have the prototypical length and size of a TMBSL big man, he does have the strength and nasty streak to bang in the post. If he had more perimeter skills, his size might not be quite the issue, but he's a big man all the way.
He's shown the ability to make the most of his post touches in college, capitalizing on post-ups and isolation plays consistently. He creates space with his strength and separation with his quickness. He is a little shaky with his touch at the rim and that will have to improve as he's challenged by longer defenders, but he can at least create the looks for himself. From the high post and out he's got a fluid stroke, but still struggles to consistently convert, preferring to mix it up in the paint rather than settle for the jumper. His game wears down defenders and often opens up the chances for him to create second chance opportunities on the boards.
Defensively, his lack of length will keep him from ever being an elite defender or rim protector, but he can still body up most players in the paint when needed. He has the strength to front the post and deny the ball in most situations and the speed to briefly switch onto perimeter players without being exploited. He plays hard and that helps cover up some of his deficiencies but that will be harder at the next level. It does help on the boards as he is an asset on the defensive boards as well.
Bass is a hard worker and while that should bode well for his development, his lack of size does hinder some long-term potential.
