If Scouting is done away with, I thought it good to discuss a few alternative options in place of that system. Whether we dump scouting would be a separate thread/discussion. This thread is not for discussing the pros/cons of scouting, it's for debating the best of these other options.
Feel free to chime in with your own ideas, and I can add to poll. I'll share a few of mine below.
1. Concurrent Prospect Season
- During the season we would have 3 sims of 20 days in the prospect season that get posted (flexible on specifics here). Kind of like you're following the college season as it's ongoing.
- We would probably have a static set of non-draft players that are always in this league (and are mediocre rather than horrible). And then eric just swaps in the new draft class each year. That would give us a static baseline to judge prospect performance against.
- I think this would be fun because it would give the teams with high draft picks a few sims to look forward to each year. And they could look through all the box scores.
- I think this would give teams with top picks a pretty good idea of what they'd be drafting (before TC anyway)
2. Eric shares ranges of attributes for all prospects with everyone
- For each prospect, eric would share with everyone a Hi-Low for where their actual attribute falls. These ranges would differ prospect to prospect and attribute to attribute. Maybe the ranges would be wider for the high-potential guys and narrower ranges for the low potential guys?
3. Test sim and averages are shared (either numeric averages or some sort of std dev thing like we did with the creation file)
- Most similar to creation draft. Kind of similar to #1 but without the steady trickle of information through the season or without access to individual box scores.
