Frye is a senior citizen in this draft class, the rare four year starter in college. His skills are pretty well-developed at this point and scouts don't see much growth left in him at this point. That's a shame because he pairs that limited upside with some underwhelming athleticism. His frame isn't great to add any additional weight and strength and he's fairly lanky, despite this he has below average foot speed and quickness for his size. He at least is a decent jumper and uses that and his wingspan to at least affect some shots on the defensive end despite not being much of a man defender in the paint because he can be bullied fairly easily. His best bet is to land as a power forward who can help protect the rim as a help-side defender and hopefully doesn't have to worry about being drawn out to the perimeter where opponents can exploit his foot speed. He was a solid rebounder in college, but that had more to do with his size and length versus college players and less to do with being good at positioning himself to rebound well. That may be an issue at the next level.
Offensively, Frye seemed to relegate himself to being a role player in the Arizona offense despite having (at the college level) size and talent that wasn't matched by many opponents. He has an incredible shooting stroke for a player with his length and will have the ability to expand that to the three point line at the next level. He's as good a jump shooter as you're going to find among big men, even at the next level on Day 1. That's good because he struggles to finish inside with his lack of strength and often hangs out on the perimeter looking for jump shooting opportunities.
