Martell Webster is a scorer. He puts the ball through the basket a ton at the high school level and just has a great feel for how to score at every level, but especially on the perimeter. He has tremendous form and is a natural shooter, but he can sometimes be a bit deliberate with his motion, which may catch up to him as a three point shooter at the next level with more athletic players closing out. However, if his feet and shoulders are set and square, he ain't missing. He has shown the ability to continue to hit with a hand in his face and make the tough shots as well. Webster isn't an explosive athlete from a leaping/quickness perspective, but he is incredibly mature frame-wise for an 18 year old and has tremendous strength. Despite his lack of explosiveness, he plays very smoothly and has a soft touch, some would say he has old man game. He is a bit ball-dominant and doesn't pass much, but that's a trait we see with a lot of high school stars that haven't played high-level team ball yet.
His wingspan and strength will likely set him apart from his counterparts on the wing in this class as he'll be an exceptional rebounder, but the lack of explosive athleticism probably hurts his overall potential as a defender. He may at times be called upon to act more like a small-ball 4 as his footwork is a bit of a mess and he's had trouble staying in front of defenders on the wings. That clunkiness with his footwork also occasionally carries over into his post game on the other end, but really rears it's head when he's trying to stay in front of his man on defense.
Webster shows tremendous potential as a scorer but his career will likely be determined about how he's able to workaround his athletic limitations to develop as a defender so he can keep himself on the court in high-stakes situations.
