To avoid unnecessary bullying by GMs to get their way, eric has made the decision that he will never change a ruling/decision/interpretation disirregardless (h/t timpig) of the merits of the objection.
There is a work around to this that will allow the league to avoid a wrongly decided ruling/decision/interpretation without eric needing to change his ruling.
We could have a mechanism (tbd in a later poll if there is consensus we need a mechanism - feel free to suggest a mechanism in this thread) that prevents undue hardship to GMs because of the league's policy on changing its rulings.
Pros - eric never has to deal with difficult GMs bitching and moaning again. We have a mechanism to prevent silly outcomes like the dirt/dascumchap veto or the scouting report veto.
Cons - it's cumbersome to have a distribution of power, even limited power, and lessens the benefit of [mostly] enlightened despotic commishing.

Fair eric - at least not about rulings. Draft classes though . . . .

Bump as its a topic again.
I would be in favor of some form of council to advise on trades and/or override a veto.
Part of the problem is that Eric has the only voice in terms of what is "reasonable" value.

interested to hear the reasoning behind the 5 no votes i think it will get messy, cause more drama, and lead to possible selling of votes

I also want to be crystal clear about something: I think eric has very good judgment and unimpeachable integrity. He would be the first person I'd nominate for this committee.
But like all of us, his judgment is fallible (I don't think his integrity is tbh). And he is not willing to be challenged on his judgment, for very understandable reasons. That's why this ought to become a thing.

Would the committee only get involved IF eric feels a deal should be vetoed"
or is the committee involved on every deal/prior to any veto discussion?

Why would we want to hoist a separate body with no power on Eric to do nothing but indulge our whiniest most self serving membership?

I voted no because no enough detail is provided for who would make up the group, how long they get to stay in it. What happens if someone quits. What activates them to step in?

The OP says all of that would be discussed in a future poll if it’s agreed on that a mechanism is needed in the first place.

I feel like Eric does a great job with the league. We have had a couple of "just use some common sense" moments. But I wouldn't want this group to over step or be used more than the rare moment.

Are we going to do a poll for every GM and let everybody vote up or down if they should be on the Council of Reason

This is a unserious take and why I voted no. If we get full details (outside of the members) I will switch my vote
