WELCOME TO DIRTS 3002 DRAFT GRADES AND TEST TRAINING CAMP
First and Foremost, Thank you for reading Dirt's Draft Grades and Test TC Article. This draft class isn't as high powered in the top 3 positions but it will have it's contributors. There are plenty of starters throughout the top 10. I even have some good things to say for a handful of guys that are being picked outside the top 10. If you have any questions for those prospects send me a pm and we can discuss how they did in the test. Even though this draft class is a bit different than last season it's still a good class. Some prospects have their flaws but we are lucky enough to upgrade our rookies and make them into a solid player. Instead of relying on TCs to generate randomly we are able to fill out our player to our own wishes. I truly believe a lot of GMs will be surprised at how good some of these guys are. I also wrote out my thoughts before doing the test. I test only once so what you see is what i get for this article. I will sim them through 4 seasons and at the end of the 4 years i will add upgrades to see a finished product. Just remember visual grades aren't everything. Enjoy!

1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Draft Grade: B+
Kevin McHale PF 6'10'' 210 22 B- C, C- C, C, B
McHale is a very intriguing prospect in the terms of how good is his volume going to be on a team with multiple scoring options? He has elite scoring and in fact will have the best starting scoring grades pre rookie TC in 6.0. We haven't seen a top prospect with this low of strength and I'm worried about the minutes per game and the usage McHale is going to get. Sap will have a tough decision to make and I'm not sure what the correct answer is. If you boost his usage McHale will probably average around 8 rebounds per game and that will be pretty below average in a few years. We've already seen multiply elite rebounds in last years draft and you will have a couple more this season. So if McHale's scoring usage grades are good enough i think i would add rebounding to him. With all that said i think he is the consensus #1 pick. The unfortunate thing is he probably would have fell to 1.4 in last seasons draft.

2. Golden State Warriors - Draft Grade B+
Andrew Toney SG 6'3'' 178 22 B, C+ C, C, C, B,
I think Andrew Toney is the most mysterious prospect in this class. Drafting a SG will always scare me because you can't throw all your inside into them like Small Forwards. Looking at other Shooting Guards in the league i can't really gauge where their Inside is. I think DD has similar scoring grades as Toney before any TC so he should be a better scorer than him. I don't know where Drazen's Inside is so I'm unsure if Toney will have 50+%. He is very athletic so I'm not really worried about his usage. If i had any worries it's his size vs his capped inside. I think he will become a B+ or A- Inside Scorer and will have a chance at being an all-star. The SG position is limited in the league and Toney has the potential to be a Mentor for Ward throughout his career. Some other GMs would argue Toney is not the #2 prospect in the league. If i had to guess Toney will be a 20+ppg scorer around 49% and make the all-star team his rookie year.

3. Chicago Stags (from 76ers) - Draft Grade B
Joe Barry Carroll C 7'0'' 225 21 B, D+ C- C, C, A,
JBC is the biggest risk reward prospect in 6.0 history. His Max potential is a must with this prospect and with the proper improvements he can be a stud. My only concern for JBC is his starting scoring grades, If i drafted him I think i would wait on putting improvements into him until his 3rd TC. With the centers only being capped in Shot Blocking why not see what grows and be patient. I guess your saving grace is you can always reset if you need to. JBC needs some tender love and care and I hope Troy gets it. I would hate to see a 1.3 flop but to be honest there is a possibility that happens. The upside is he could top 5 in the league in Blocks as quick as his Sophomore season and be a monster Inside Scorer. The best news Troy can hear is he is already polished in his athletics categories' so usage won't be an issue. Your naturally grown categories are what's low and that should be the reason why JBC can be a baller later in his rookie contract
season.

Kiki, do you love me? Are you riding?
Say you'll never ever leave from beside me
'Cause I want ya, and I need ya
And I'm down for you always.
This pick is BAD news for the Eastern Conference GMs. After an amazing Free Agency and now an even better draft the Cougars are poised to make a real run for the championship next year. I think i would have picked KiKi at 1.2 if he was there. He has a strong comparison to Ellis, and is actually a better pre-tc prospect. The only difference is Ellis was a hidden gem. KiKi will have similar rebounding and starting scoring grades as Ellis. He is another sure fire wing that should move in and be an elite scorer. My comp is going to be a Riva with way better rebounding. His volume is good but with the players 20s has he will probably be a 22-25 PPG scorer and be top 10 in FG& as a rookie. For those that were worried about this draft class, just pay attention to KiKi his rookie year. His improvements will help his visual grades and he can play SG without his Inside being capped. Great Prospect, Great Pick.

5. Brooklyn Nets (from Kings) - Draft Grade: B+
Michael Brooks SF 6'7'' 220 21 B, C- C- C, B, C,
BK took the leap and traded a couple picks to move up and take the first double double machine in this draft. His stat scouts show me his volume is there but his P/TSA is a bit low. I truly believe he is the next Doug Wrenn with C Potential. I don't have a huge issue with this pick because the top wing prospects in this draft are bad on defense. If BK keeps Brooks on his team all-year he does have the potential to be an all-star but he's more of a 3rd Option on a championship roster. His Inside Scoring and Jumpshot are the exact same and unfortunately he a bit low to be able to cap both his rookie season. I will finally be able to gauge what's important for BK. Will he bump his Inside or will he bump his Jumpshot. Will he split the difference or lean towards one or the other. He should be a 25 PPG scorer around 50% and average 10 Rebounds. He has the potential to be another A- rebounding Small Forward and we all know the 5.0 GMs love that. The more i look at this prospect the more i see him being Doug Wrenn. Same Points/Rebounds/Steals/Blocks/TO. He will be a better usage player than some will think when the dust settles. When i say Doug Wrenn i mean rookie Wrenn because I don't see Brooks improving much after putting in uppies.

Mike Gminski C 6'11'' 250 20 C, C, D+ C+ C, B,
This was a hard pick to grade to be honest. I really like Gminksi but I think he's more of a top 8 prospect instead of a top 6. This pick is a very similar pick that egg took last season and it worked out for him. He is a polished big that will be what he is and won't improve much after upgrades. I can't gauge the pick until I see where the upgrades go, the uppies will really determine the ceiling for this prospect. He has an elite Jumpshot but I still lean towards jumper doesn't really effect a big mans FG%. Gminski's athletic grades are lacking so he won't have much usage and therefore he won't get to the Free Throw line to really get the most out of his jump shot. I would throw all the improvement into his Inside and see if he can be a good scoring big with good post D. This was a good safe pick and TC will really determine if Gminski was the play here.

Darrell Griffith SG 6'4'' 190 21 C+ C, B+ C, C, A,
Griffith is even more of a risk than JBC. Luckily for Chap his stat scout looked good and shows me the athletic usage abilities are important. His scoring grades need alot of help and with his potential it is possible. There were a few polished prospects at this postiion but Chap rolled the dice and decided on the possible BPA instead of going the safe route. He really did the opposite of egg at 1.6. I've seen Griffith explode in TC I've also seen him bust in a TC. He is extremely athletic and at one point should lead the league in steals. His Perimeter Defense is so bad but his explosiveness and potential out weighs it. My biggest worry here for chap is he just won't be good in the league. His ceiling is soo high and that's why he was worth rolling the dice for. It's difficult to find a good wing in the league right now so getting a good SG is important. Only TC will tell if this pick goes from a B- to an A+.

Wes Matthews Sr. PG 6'1'' 170 20 C, C+ C+ C, D- A,
Sr, Is the best PG prospect in 6.0 so far. Wes is obviously not a polished guard at this point but he has the second most potential in this draft. It is still risky taking Mathews because he will need some TC love to truly shine in the league. His rookie year TC will very crucial to determine what improvements he needs. He is lacking in handles and passing and luckily TC can help those categories. If I have the patience to wait out his TCs i think I can be rewarded with an elite level of scoring. He will never be good at stealing and he is atrocious at rebounding if your into that. He is a scoring point guard that will be perfect for an outside focus offense and not a liability on defense.

Jeff Ruland PF 6'10'' 240 21 C, C- F, C, B- B,
I'm not a fan of Ruland but he's not a scrap heap of a prospect. He has elite level strength and post D but is lacking huge in a couple other categories. He has the potential to be a stout non scoring defensive big but you will have to upgrade him in Blocks to do that. His rebounding is average for a prospect but his jumping is beyond terrible. If you can camp and upgrade some rebounding and fill out his shot blocking you could have a reliable back up or fringe starter for a championship team. With his jumping so low i'm not really sure if it's worth putting Inside Scoring into him. If you did I would love to see how he plays in the league. The one bright side about his F handles is he has terrible passing. I was hoping for a better prospect but unfortunately it just didn't go well for ol Ruland.

10. Brooklyn Nets (from Mavericks) - Draft Grade: A-
Larry Smith PF 6'8'' 215 22 C+ C, C+ C, B, B,
Larry is an elite rebounder and will give BK two double double prospects in this draft. He should come into the league on par with Sampson when it comes to rebounds. His inside scoring is good enough to make him a solid 19ish PPG in the league. Smith has nearly identical scoring grades as Brooks and it will be interesting to see what BK decides to upgrade. I would go with full +30 inside and turn the Nets into a Inside style offense. This prospect isn't going to improve, he's your polished special ready for action. Last season Stip was Mr.10 and it only makes sense another solid big goes again in 3002. His frame is a bit concerning but with some work in the weight room that can be overlooked. He won't steal or block shots and is decent on the defensive end of the floor. He has decent strength but there are way stronger guys in this draft. It will be interesting to see what type of handles he will have with such good passing.
