Wright was a highly regarded high school prospect, considered by many recruiting experts to be the best prospect in the HS Class of 2006 after Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. After a season of tutelage under Roy Williams that ended with an Elite 8 loss to Jeff Green and the Georgetown Hoyas, Wright enters the draft as one of the more raw and tantalizingly athletic prospects available.
Wright is extremely mobile for a 6'10" man, he runs the floor well and is sudden and explosive. He is a fantastic leaper and has fantastic lateral quickness. He will need to fill out his frame and continue to add strength without sacrificing this explosiveness but that should come with more time and commitment to the weight room. His offensive game is still fairly green. He showed the ability to finish with his athleticism in the paint in college and glimpses of a soft touch around the rim, but he'll have to expand his game to be able to continue to make shots for himself and convert at the next level. He has soft hands and catches the ball well in traffic, but once he has it he usually is looking to finish. His shot is a work in process, not showing much range with the jumper and making less than 60% from the free throw line in Chapel Hill.
Defensively, Wright should be able to contribute here right away as his athleticism will allow him at worst to contribute as a weakside rim protector. He'll need some work and added strength to be a high-level defender, but that's not out of the question as he should have the versatility to step out and switch double teams and hang with guys on the perimeter with his agility. He also has all the tools to be a rebounding machine, the question is whether he will have the focus and determination to do it, as his rebounding numbers were merely good and not great in college.
