Nick YoungSG6'7"21022USCYoung is a physically mature prospect who has spent the last 3 years playing for Southern California. Scouts describe him as a throwback type of player who uses an array of excellent ball-handling moves to create space for his jump shot in the mid-range. He complements this on-ball ability by being an excellent cutter and screen user to create catch and shoot opportunities. He's struggled a bit with being a little streaky with his shot, but he has fine mechanics. He has some post-up skills and is a decent finisher in the paint, but that part of his game trails behind the mid-range and catch and shoot pieces and he sometimes lacks assertiveness and settles for jumpers. Young isn't a standout athlete. He lacks an explosive first step and could stand to add some upper body strength, but he does have the physical tools to be somewhat successful on defense. His length should lend well to some steals on the perimeter (and he has shown a tendency to gamble for those instead of playing sound defense), but he hasn't shown the ability to stay consistently engaged on that end to make an impact yet. Scouts also believe he could be a plus rebounder for his position due to his length, but he showed inconsistent levels of focus in that regard at Southern Cal.
