Carr’s post defense is pretty good. Generally the bigs he’s going against don’t shoot well.
He won’t be a blocking machine but to knock him when’s he the best rookie and MVP candidate is interesting

He won’t be a blocking machine but to knock him when’s he the best rookie and MVP candidate is interesting Among qualifying players, Carr is: - 21st in pts/tsa - 12th in PER - 9th in win shares - 16th in points per 36 - 11th in rebounds per 36 - 32nd in FG% In fact, he trails Sampson in every single category above as well as blocks and steals. Damn fine player, but he shouldn't even be Rookie of the Year at this point, let alone MVP.

But the 76ers are the best team in the league and the trailblazers suck

Final Update - 3001 Regular SeasonThe season is over, we have a champion of rookies. The software gave it to Drexler, it's currently too close to call in the GM voting (stay tuned later today!), but this man's opinion reigns supreme in this article space... and he has waffled on this decision between the Top 2 (sorry Clyde)... and ultimately this morning has decided that there is a TIE at the top for the first time in ladder history. Congrats to bankz . skrouse , please transfer 1000 units to him.
EDIT: Post-publication this author realized he was an idiot and was looking at shown potential and not real potential. This has broken the tie at the top. Ellis wins.
1. Dale Ellis - Philadelphia 76ers (previous: 1)
1st in P/TSA, 2nd in raw scoring, and a good steward of the ball. Ellis finished 2nd in WS among rookies and is a pure bucket getter. His defense isn't elite, but isn't a negative either.
2. Ralph Sampson - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: 2) His efficiency has bumped up, which finally landed him tied for the top in my view. A top 3 offensive and defensive big as a rookie. The only knock against him is his TO rate, which hopefully can be massaged down with a kind TC or two. 3. Clyde Drexler - Indiana Pacers (previous: 3)4th in WS, 3rd in scoring, 7th in P/TSA... and 3rd here on the ladder. A true MVP candidate going forward, and would likely be #1 here in most years, but the competition was truly absurd in 3001. 4. Antoine Carr - Philadelphia 76ers (previous: 4)An elite big in almost every facet, Carr led all rookies in WS and is the coach's favorite in Philly. The tiniest margin splits him from the Top 3... but he is still a legitimate MVP candidate going forward. This class is top-heavy and deep. 5. Steve Stipanovich - Carolina Cougars (previous: 5)He's only improved every update this year. Stippy is a solid all-around player. Increased shot-blocking could make him a perennial All-Star candidate. 6. Manute Bol - Philadelphia 76ers (previous: 7)His efficiency inched up over the year to get to roughly league-average (or higher? I assume average is about 1.05-1.08 P/TSA). His rebounding isn't elite, but it isn't a dealbreaker either and should grow some. His shot blocking is other-worldly. 7. Winfred King - Los Angeles Clippers (previous: 6)Efficiency dropped off toward the end, landing him decidedly below Stip and Bol. The upside for him is that he's shining on a crowded roster, he could absolutely put up better counting stats in the future if he becomes a focus. His ceiling, due to POT, is probably lower than the guys ahead of him, though. FT% is his real bugaboo. 8. Randy Wittman - Seattle SuperSonics (previous: 10)Turnovers aside, Wittman has been the bright spot in the Emerald City this season. 4th in P/TSA despite a pretty poor performance on jumpers and from the FT line. He may have some stat inflation due to crappy teammates, but like Stip, he's only improved all season and should be a consistent starter in the league for a long time. 9. Byron Scott - Golden State Warriors (previous: 8)After spending most of the season as the clear #1 PG in the class, Scott regressed at the end and lost some luster. He's still the tops, but guys like Harper, Holton, and Granger are all much closer to his level at this juncture than it appeared half a season ago. 10. Sidney Green - Sacramento Kings (previous: 9)Like Wittman, he may be a HUGE stats/bad team type... but scoring at that volume is a skill for sure that will likely translate going forward. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Rod Foster - Chicago Stags Michael Holton - Los Angeles Clippers Derek Harper - Sacramento Kings Stewart Granger - Charlotte Bobcats
Wings: Ken Austin - Seattle SuperSonics Rodney McCray - San Antonio Spurs John Pinone - Dallas Mavericks
Bigs: Roy Hinson - Los Angeles Lakers Randy Breuer - Seattle SuperSonics Brant Weidner - Toronto Raptors

Ralph Sampson and his representatives with the Trail Blazers organization want it to be known that he takes this as a personal slight and finds it offensive.
Sampson will not forget this clear disrespect and will let it fuel him this offseason. He looks forward to the next time he can face the Raptors on the court.
Also, the Blazer organization would like to unequivocally state that even with the benefit of hindsight we would select Sampson over Ellis 100 out of 100 times.
Thank you and that is all.
No questions at this time.

No questions at this time. Statistically he was on par but I think Sampson hits that ceiling well before Ellis does and in the long run Ellis will be a bigger difference maker Also 85K to Delap

I'm still taking Drexler 1.1, so I fundamentally disagree with the top of the ladder. Think Ellis is clearly #2 though.

Ya - there was a clarification that rookie ladder was intended to identify who the most promising prospects are - not just who was the best rookie this year. So I was curious whether you'd do a straight swap.
