A year removed from leading Arkansas to the Hog Heaven of a National Title, Williamson enters the draft ready to take on the next challenge, TMBSL. A tough spot as a tweener, his game is more adept for the 4, given his strength and desire to play inside the arc, but he's smaller there... yet he's probably not fast enough to play the 3 in most traditional offenses. However, for an inside-focused team, he can probably make do (offensively) playing the SF position. He is quick for his size, but lacks the lateral speed to really stay in front of guard-type wings. Offensively he will relentlessly attack the rim, preferring to out-muscle/work opponents to get a clean shot at the basket. He scored at an impressive clip (and a high efficiency) in Fayetteville, so he can likely replicate that in the correct system, but in the pros he'll have to develop a jump shot to be a complete scorer, and he has a ways to go there. However... Defensively, surprisingly, is where scouts expect him to struggle. Built to be a 4-man in Arkansas' "40 Minutes of Hell" defense, he flew around from assignment to assignment, often switching and going all out to create havoc and turnovers... but in a TMBSL where pressing simply doesn't work, he has to learn to play sound, traditional defense... and his outlook isn't great. As stated before, his perimeter defense against wings is lacking the speed necessary, and his size simply limits his ability to be an effective post defender against bigs who can just go over him, but he will be able to leverage his big man instincts to generate some shot blocks on the perimeter. Despite the correct tools, he has never proven to be a good rebounder and really struggles on the defensive glass. Williamson has a proven track record of coachability and putting in the hours in the gym, so scouts are high on his future development.
