Swen NaterC6'1124023UCLAA real unknown entering the draft, Swen Nater won two national championships at UCLA but was hardly a major contributor as he was overshadowed by the likes of Bill Walton and Jamaal Wilkes. In fact, he never even started a game in his two seasons at UCLA after transferring from Cypress Junior College, but was instrumental in helping Walton develop in practice against a capable player of similar size. All that said, scouts are fascinated by Nater, a player of Dutch descent with tantalizing potential and grown man strength. He's shown soft touch around the rim and excellent rebounding chops at both ends which give some scouts hope that he may actually be able to develop into a better professional than the much more highly regarded Walton. Despite those positives, there are still plenty of negatives that come with a player with so little experience on his resume. He hits his free throws but didn't show the desire or frankly strength to get to the line with regularity, preferring finesse, and unlike other finesse bigs he won't stretch the floor from the three point line. Not a shot blocker, both due to athletic limitations and due to hunting the rebound. Not as big a coughaholic as former teammate Walton, he will still generate too many turnovers for most. After showing no effort to get on the floor in college, scouts don't think Nater has the sticktoitivity to grow much in the pros.
