Before thinking forward, let's start by thinking back for a moment, what's your favorite thing from another league (a past iteration or different league from TMBSL) that you wish we would implement for 7.0?
Majic: I would love to see the randomness of draft prospect building make a comeback. I think that the combination of the wheel and the “cookie cutter” way that prospects are built has made things a bit stale. TC is often the main determinant on whether a player becomes a star or ends up useless. Shaking up the draft process overall would be a welcome change to the league. I liked when we had varying types of prospects and secret hidden gems that could be found in the draft. I understand this makes things harder on the commissioner but I am sure we could work something out.
Chap: I haven't been in other sim leagues that function like tmbsl. I can't say that there is something I would implement from the other leagues. There are other seperate ideas that I think are a good idea (a Council of Reason).
Sap: This is the first league I have been in like this. Normally it is just your “traditional” fantasy sports league. I do like a lot of what is done as well as how it is done. I will say that most of my “issues” are small and quality of life things more so than major updates or changes
Timpig: This is a similar question to one asked in Majic's RT, albeit worded a bit differently. I think the league as a whole has generally accepted positive changes and gotten rid of bad ones, so there aren't a ton of choices here. I love the wheel so that's certainly out. The only thing I can think of is fewer free rewards to encourage more participation. It probably wouldn't have the effect I'd hope and may even do just the opposite, but that's sort of my "ideal" state. Does getting rid of our contraction system count? I guess that's one thing I really don't care for.
Kc: This is my first sim league or anything of this nature so I have nothing to compare to bring back.
BK: Goddamn Bk, this question slays. RFA in some fashion would be fun to implement. Or draft pick compensation for losing a player in FA off of the rookie contract.
What change, if implemented, would make it so you wouldn't want to return for 7.0?
Majic: I have been around a long time and seen alot of changes/experimentations to the league. I can honestly say I am not sure any one change would make me leave or not commit to 7.0. Some of the major changes we hare tried revolved around drafting; unweighted and rookie FA, and both of those were interesting. I think if I ever do leave it will be a combination of alot of little things and not one primary issue.
Chap: I'm not think of an absolute deal breaker off the top of my head. I guess I will just say any change that makes participation very time consuming. Part of the reason I'm not participating at this moment is because of how much time it took to have a proper, competitive team.
Sap: I don’t see a situation in which I would not return. I enjoy many aspects of SIM and for me the GM’ing is just part of it. I also don’t know what I don’t know. So I will try anything at least once (I have stories about this as well) so I will be back.
Timpig: I'm not sure there would be anything that would cause me to outright quit. Maybe eric departing as commissioner or the return to any form of lottery. I'd see both as negative changes but would still give it a try. I just don't imagine I'd enjoy the league as much.
Kc: If scouting were totally thrown out.
BK: If Heebs was commissioner
Rank the top 5 biggest problems/annoying things of 6.0
Majic:
Wheel
“Cookie cutter” prospect building
Unevenness in draft classes and top prospects
Amnesty accessibility/cost
Access to too much information
Chap:
1. Deadlines(unecessarily strict deadlines I guess). Missing LaMelo's upgrades by 15 minutes is really what made me not give a fuck any more. Even before then, getting fined always pissed me off, even if it was inconsequential.
2. Drafts. It's stupid to say that we are not trying to make players similar to their real life counterparts but then have as imbalanced of drafts as we did.
3./4. Writing articles & upgrades. It seemed like most people like our currency system but I really didn't. I wish upgrades were just free.
5. I'm out of reasons to complain
Sap:
1. Amnesty’s being cheap 2. the wheel 3. people knowing almost everything about builds and what impacts what 4. The complete and total RNG of playoffs 5. The shorthanded deck new GM’s are given
3. Running the bank
4. People deleting and re-posting transactions and posting something like "I deleted the 50k transaction but I'm not sure if you already took it out but this is an additional 15k on top of that for a different player"
5. People getting compensated for "running" the casino (I couldn't really think of a good fifth choice)

Pick two of those problems and discuss a possible solution to it.
Majic: I already touched on the prospect building and I will leave the wheel aside as I have expressed my opinions on that plenty of times.
Unevenness in draft classes and top prospects has been a growing issue over the last 10 sim years. This was a big problem throughout a large chunk of the 5.0 wheel experience and I think its starting to become an issue again. Eric did a goob job of leveling draft classes for a large portion of 6.0 but I think its fallen off a bit. In addition, it sucks to see players come in from one class that are so far better than any of the draft classes around them. Overall I would love to see a leveling of draft classes across the top. Keep it consistent so that all GM’s have a level of certainty with their top picks. You can sprinkle in the occasional legendary type player, but that impact can be mitigated by other players being only slightly worse.
Amnesty Access/cost is something I have long disliked. Previously, amnestying a player would cost roughly 10x the amount you earned in 1 article. In today's market it now costs less than 1 article in most cases. The ease with which a team can amnesty a player takes out alot of the cap management that is required to keep an elite team. It leads to contenders holding onto players for 1-2 extra years as they can overpay and then amnesty. It also leads to an overestimation of players in FA as offering a player max or large contract has no consequences. Overall I would love to see us limit them to 1 amnesty every 5 seasons and increase the cost to something prohibitive, like 250k+.
Chap:
1. Regarding Deadlines...the rules need changed. Eric is definitely not going to give any leeway so change the rules.
2. Regarding Drafts...I have no idea. But I got my 1.1 right after LeBron comes into the league and that is another big reason I stopped giving as shit; how do you compete?
Sap:Well where to start. I will start with #5. Give the new GM’s 100K and 50 upgrades to work with. This will allow them to have a fighting chance and invest in some players and not feel like they cant scout or improve their players. I say $110K as it will give them $50K to scout so they can scout 4 players when they draft and then the other $50K so they can use the upgrades if they choose. Then I have another idea that I think would work but isn’t necessarily tied to one of the above issues. But a twist on FA. I think we should have Restricted FA an Unrestricted FA. How exactly it shakes out, I don’t know but you should be able to bid on players that “resign” and let them choose. I know that FA is largely random but I think it would be fun to sign a restricted FA. If you do, you probably paid them more and lose a draft pick. So any player is still “in play” but can be a hefty price to pay.
2. Casino compensation - Dirt currently gets 25k for copying and pasting the lines eric sends him, with the 40 seconds of additional work it takes to tally up totals at the end of the year. He did actual casino stuff for like half a season but now just gets a free 25k for doing almost nothing. BK got the same before that. Both said they'd do more than the absolute minimum, which is what I was doing for a season or two, but I gave it up thinking they'd do more. I also get 25k for the bank, which requires multiple updates every day. If you're going to get compensated for running the casino, you should be required to handle the O/U and maybe come up with 4-5 other contests throughout the season.
About the wheel - I think the wheel would be fine if we could fill the league. Let’s get out recruiting and get a full league in here and roll on!
BK: Jeepers Creepers! This question frightened me with it’s directness. I would definitely enact a council of reason. This council would include me, chap, and montrealdude. It would be a good council that deserves respect but gets none.
Do you think 7.0 will be a wheel league?
Majic:
Sadly yes, I do not see a scenario where we get eric to change the wheel process. If we do continue to keep it I would love to throw in some sort of randomness to the wheel slots. I had previously discussed a tiered wheel for each year. So rather than being guaranteed an exact pick you get a range of picks: Tier A - Picks 1-4, Tier B - picks 5-10, Tier C - picks 11-15, Tier D - picks 16-20, Tier F - picks 21-29.
You can then determine the exact order by RNG or have it based on record. I prefer the record idea personally.
This would add some randomness to the draft and create some unknown to a pick.
Chap: Probably, this is another thing everyone seems to like. I personally would prefer lotto.
Sap: I think it will be. There has been a viable solution yet. The league is divided on this concept. There are some that understand how and why it is place and are ok with what it delivers. Then there are a group that absolutely loathe it and will take anything over it. That being said, I do not think there will be any change to it without a new idea that has sweeping approval.
Timpig: It should be. Rookie free agency wasn't as bad as I thought, but it was still a dud. Any form of lottery incentivizes tanking, which incentivizes a significant chunk of teams being as bad as possible and making bad trades that help out good teams just to make themselves worse. The wheel isn't perfect, but there isn't a better alternative.
Kc: I’d be open to a change but I’ve never participated in lottery or any of the other forms so my opinion is invalid.
BK: Jeez Louise, this is a dynamite question. It seems clear to me that half the league likes the wheel, and eric is on that half so it seems to stay.
Do you think there will be any major changes for 7.0?
Majic: The only major change that I could see us discussing would be changes to the wheel process or moving to the newer software. I personally would love to explore both of these options so I hope we look at them seriously.
Chap: Probably not, it is too hard to get all of our dumb asses to agree on stuff so the status quo will continue.
Sap: The only major change I can see is how amnesty’s work. That could either be by how “cheap” they are or how easily an already good team can easily acquire players.
Timpig: As is stated every iteration, trying out a new software would be cool just to change things up. But, assuming eric remains commish, he put in a lot of work to develop a system that provides tons of cool information with as little work as possible. We talk about it, but the idea never really seems to gain much traction and understandably so, as new software brings new issues we aren't aware of and haven't previously figured out how to accommodate, which will lead to a whole new host of issues.
Kc: Probably not? The league functions smoothly in my opinion now.
BK: Jinkies! This is a hard-hitting, but fair, question. I don’t think there will be any major changes for 7.0 and that makes me sad, I’d like to go back to lotto.
What changes do you think we could make that would increase GM retention for 7.0?
Majic: This is a hard question and I am not sure if its possible overall. People will gain and lose interest over time and that is bound to happen no matter what. I do think making some of the changes I added above would keep things more consistently interesting and lead to more GM buying.
The only other option we could explore would be to create some form of franchise bonuses or upgrades. This would give GMs incentive to stick around longer and continue to build their franchise. The obvious downside to this is it could potentially hinder new GM’s that start, but I am sure we could come up with some form of incentives for a new GM, whether that be temporary improvements or something similar.
Chap: I don't know if there is anything that would increase retention. I already said that it takes a lot of time to stay competetive. Maybe make it so that is easier to build a team. That's a super general statement and possibly just a stupid one. IDK.
Sap: I think you may have been on to something in Shout last evening. The fact that you HAVE to earn money to be competitive is a bit of an issue. While some may argue that it is “easy” with box score rewards, it isn’t that easy. That being said, if you are not an active GM I don’t have a ton of sympathy for you. If you are active, there should be some type of revenue sharing that goes on. Every GM gets a set amount of money from “TV deals” that they can use to invest in their team. A GM that drafts a player but can’t afford to upgrade them is a waste of a good player.
Timpig: Start paying GMs real money. Everyone has their own ideas for what will keep GMs - get rid of the wheel, change commissioners, change draft builds, don't require articles, and so on - and none of it works. I think most people can make the time, but getting people to maintain interest is another story. I don't really see a league that maintains 29 active GMs - we haven't had that at any time I've been in sim league. Accept it, move on, and make it the best for the 20ish or so we do have.
Kc: The only changes I could see being beneficial at this time would be evening 1.1 talent (see above)
And possible a change from the wheel but like I said I don’t even know the operation of the other options so my opinion is invalid on this matter.
BK: Woah what an insightful question. I think we should start making it easier to compete if you arent a content creation GM. I also think people need to start recruiting gfs/wives.
Is there anything you think needs changed and you could see yourself burning out in 7.0 if it isn't fixed?
Majic: I have discussed it above and will mention it again, but the draft building and reliance on TC fortune can give people a bad taste. It sucks when you have a top pick not developing or have bad luck in TC. If a GM continues to experience that it makes things quite boring and not enjoyable. I would just prefer to give more certainty to higher picks so that the wait for those drafts isnt wasted for that GM.
Chap: I feel like I've already brought up my complaints. I had fun while I was still participating, I did 30 sim years. But I may not join 7.0. I don't want to join up just to burn out quicker the second time around when you guys could have that spot for someone who is more committed.
Sap: I think if anything would be the fact that longer tenured GM’s have a SIGNIFICANT advantage and the learning curve is so steep for brand new GM’s that it is very hard to be competitive unless you have someone helping you. I do not think there is anything wrong with having a friend to help. However, we will never attract someone that isn’t somehow connected, because there will be no relationship to lean on.
Timpig: Nothing that will make me burn out, at least as it currently stands. DMing is a lot of work but that's a task that can eventually be handed over to someone else or automated in some way. I think the only thing that might make me quit would be blatant unfairness - e.g. editing players outside of the rules.
BK: Wow this is a great question. I think if the draft classes keep being mostly shit I will continue to lose interest. Wheel already sapped some fun out of the whole draft process, shit tier prospects sap the rest. (note:here sap means ruin)
Should Lebron be as OP in 7.0?
Majic: No, nor should Kyrie or any other player. I 100% think there should be a higher tier for players of Lebron’s caliber but when he is so far ahead of the next tier of players it makes it unfair.
Chap: No, at the end of the day this is game right. Balance the game imo.
Sap: NO. I think the issue with LeBron being OP is the fact that there is zero consistency in who is and who isn’t OP, other than LeBron (from what I am told). There is an argument that Jordan is the best player ever. I am not here to have the argument, but the argument CAN be had. Yet he is just a VERY average player. Either we go with good players will be good in SIM or they wont but to pick and choose is just ridiculous. I get it that not everyone can be great but if we are going to go that why ( and I enjoy the randomness) we need to stick that way and it would be ok if a “fake” LeBron wasn’t good.
Timpig: It seems like we should be able to make LeBron not as ridiculous. Give him a terrible 3pt rating to start, a below average jumper, and 30 handling with 100 passing. He likely still turns out very good but requires some TC luck to become elite.
Kc: Yes and no. I mean should he come out teen 100 pot? Yes. Will
He get the same tc love? We will see, luck of the draw.
BK: Wow what an amazing question. It would be nice to nerf lebron a little bit. Maybe less stealing/blocking/handles.
Kc: No above about 1.1 and no I’m in it regardless.
