Mahorn is another player that scouts tell us they're begging their front offices not to overlook. Despite coming from CIAA program Hampton with little exposure, Mahorn is the real deal and under the tutelage of a fantastic coaching staff, has already come close to maxing out his potential.
A three-time All-American, Mahorn brings an edge that we potentially haven't seen yet to TMBSL. Originally recruited as a defensive end while in high school, Mahorn got too tall for the game and moved to basketball; he still plays with the tenacity of a defensive end. His strength and length is menacing in the post, leading most bigs to not even bother to try and use the low block to get buckets when Mahorn is in the paint. He will block some shots and he will definitely make sure you aren't taking any easy layups when he is on the court. Once the ball is in the air, he'll make you pay the physical price to try and get second chance points as he does a great job pulling down defensive boards with great positioning. Despite playing lesser competition, scouts expect Mahorn to continue to be a menacing presence on defense in TMBSL.
While Mahorn put up nearly 28 points per game as a college senior, scouts are less sure how his game on that end of the floor will translate to the next level with better competition. He has an array of moves that he uses in the post, but he's never had to use them with guys he couldn't just outclass with his size and strength. He could also work to be more consistent with his shot, though the mechanics are serviceable as he was a 70% free throw shooter at Hampton. He never did learn to share the ball much in college, and we expect he won't be asked to be much of a playmaker at the next level either.
