Where JBC gets drafted will probably be the major storyline of the 3002 TMBSL draft. If you talk to personnel folks, you get vastly differing responses on what JBC could be based on the level of responsibility. The scouts will tell you he has the most upside in the draft, but the guys that are ultimately responsible if the pick fails will tell you they stay up at night at the thought of betting so much draft capital on a guy that has been called Joe Barely Cares in basketball circles.
What can't be denied is the athletic ability. JBC is an explosive leaper and quick-twitch athlete with the frame to continue to get bigger and add strength without losing that explosiveness. He highlighted that athleticism with a display of highlight-reel blocks throughout his college career, a reel that excited fans and frustrated his coaches and he continued to send shots into the third row and make no attempt to keep those rejections in play and turn them into transition opportunities for his team.
What can be denied is the polish and desire. He has the ability to be an elite scorer, but he continues to rely on finishing with a basic assortment moves in the paint that will be harder to use with sustained success at the next level and his shot mechanics are a bit wonky. He gets to the free throw line pretty regularly, where he isn't a complete liability but you'd love to see him be able to convert more of the plethora of opportunities he gets there just for efficiency's sake. He has all the tools to go down as the greatest rebounder in TMBSL history, but he seems to be too buys chasing blocks on defense to fulfill his potential there. He stays engaged on the boards on offense, but that's mainly to hunt down opportunities for easy points.
Ultimately, the team that drafts JBC will have to resign themselves to the fact that their pick will be as good as they can convince him he wants to be.
