Over the weekend there stirred a new controversy as the league entered into unknown territory under eics direction as commissioner.
Due to eric's current rules, or his interpretation of the rules, the new GM is not allowed to take ownership of the team until 1 full year of inactivity. This means that if any tasks or responsibilities come up in between that time, the team misses out on those actions.
In the current situation, the Pelicans were set to be given to the new GM, Sapular, after the draft and Free Agency had been run. This is due to the fact that the last action Boomslick completed was submitting bids in FA of 3000.
This means that the Pelicans, and more specifically Sapular, missed out on making the Pelicans draft pick and the ability to submit bids for FA or expiring players.
I think we can all agree that the goal of the league is to keep it as full as possible and fostering a new GM is key to that. Forcing a new GM to miss out on a top 12 draft pick AND a chance to resign his own talent, or sign Free Agents due to a current rule is unfair.
My suggestion would be that we change/add to the current rule so that once a new GM has been identified they can take temporary control of the team until the official timer ends. The new GM would only have the ability to control essential functions of a GM. This would include making draft picks and potentially offering FA contracts.
Both the current GM and the new GM, as well as the league, would be notified of the Temporary control. If at any point the old GM's decides to return then he has the window of time (within the rule) to take back over the team.
I think we can also all agree that putting an artificial timer on when a GM can take over a team that also results in that team losing valuable assets is unfair. This helps the new GM's overall and gives the league a better chance to retain GM's.
