1. There are some stacked teams. Who squares off in the finals and ends up winning it.
BK - Amigos vs Raptors
Amigos in 6 making Clemonade out of the Raptors
SAP - I think in the end it is the Mavs vs the Cougars. I would love to see the Cougars win it. I think that in the end the Mavs win but I really really like what 20’s has done with his team. I think it is a team that CAN potentially take down any team. If you can’t score he doesn’t need to score a ton to beat you and he has enough scoring to ensure that he can and will beat you that way. The problem is YOU wont be able to score against him. The defense on that team is elite.
MAJIC - I am going to go “chalk” with my answer and say that the top seeds from both conference make it with the Grizzlies taking on the Cougars. I think both teams appear to be setup perfectly down the stretch even though the Cougars having some short term injury issues. I think this is finally 20’s year and he breaks through with a title.
TIM - I feel like this is me jinxing him again, but I'm going with 20s out of the East. I think this is like the 5th time I've picked him and I don't think he made it to the Finals any of those times (sorry 20s), but he's far and away the best team in the Weak-stern Conference, especially with the Pacers trading future MVP John Wall at the deadline. That move obviously gives the Hawks a chance to upset 20s, but I'm sticking with the Cougars.
The Bestern Conference is obviously way more competitive. The top three teams - Grizzlies, Mavericks, and Bucks - all have a shot, but I've got the Mavs again after Dirt wrecked BK in the trade for Myles Turner. They ought to go deep in the Conference Finals with the Bucks, who could just as easily take the West after adding Kareem and Fergie Baby. I think the moves those two teams made during the season put them a notch above the Grizzlies. The Sonics are fourth and could conceivably make a run, but I think selling Kwame for future assets certainly hurt them this year and the other teams are just too good.
FASON - West is a real meat grinder this year, will feel bad for Trofie if he doesn't at least make the finals. I'll say Kareem continues to haunt the Cougars in the finals.
TROFIE- I think the Cougars are easily going to come out of the east. The west is tough and I think the winner of Mavs/Bucks Semi's wins it all. I'm going with the Mavs with the addition of Turner. I hope I'm wrong.
2. We've seen numerous teams push it all in. Which trade did you like the most and which trade did you hate the most
BK - 1.1 for hakeem seems like a weird win-now push when better win-now pushes were available and hakeem is no longer a ++ asset once he signs his next deal
SAP -Truth be told I hate most of the trades. I can knit pick and find a problem with all of them with the exception of the Turner trade. I like that trade and I also like what Dirt is doing. He is not standing by and willing to to go for broke. While having an OP player, he is still looking to make moves and take risks, you love to see it. Now I do not necessarily agree with all of the trades and have enough thoughts to fill or make up an article about them (Yes it would be a grumpy old man article) but I do like his aggressiveness.
MAJIC - The Bucks going out and getting Kareem is probably the most impactful trade of the season. Kareem is a bona-fide stud and any price, within reason, is worth it for the big man. The overall price for him seemed pretty fair and overall gave the Bucks a big boost.
There have been so many trades recently its hard to understand what the worst one was. KC sending a top 5 pick for MJ was surprising, I did not think Dirt was going to get that much value for him. This draft doesn’t seem great but at first glance the Chaps trading a 1.1 for Hakeem seemed like an overpay. Its no secret I went out and reshaped my team after years of failing in the first round, none of seems to have worked so its whatever to me at this point. I just didn’t think my team had enough and didn’t feel like picking more players in the draft.
TIM -King going for it by swapping 1.8 for a future MVP was easily the best move by anyone, ever. After that, I think the best trade was the Bucks acquiring Kareem. He's still in his prime-ish at 29 so he has more good years left than Turner. The only huge asset they gave up was a 1.2, which could admittedly be very valuable with Zion and Ja on the table. My bias wanted me to say Al Jefferson, as he's only getting better with age, but 1.2 for Kareem is a better deal than 1.4 for Al. The worst trade was Turner for 1.5 and a pile of trash. He's not the player he once was and is overpaid and aging, but the biggest issue here was waiting so long to trade him. The Amigos have made it to the Conference Finals once since 3017, which means there was about a 6-7 year window where BK didn't trade him and his team couldn't make it out of the second round. I'm sure he could've acquired multiple top 3 picks in that window if he'd have let him go earlier.
FASON - Two trades come to mind because they felt quite lopsided. Trofie got great value on the Kareem deal and I thought Delap could have gotten much more out of Trofie or by waiting a little for other teams to offer. kc trading 1.5 for Jordan felt like a pretty big gamble and Dirt got an asset to use for Turner IIRC (I'm too lazy to fact check). I will say kc made up for the MJ trade by getting Jefferson and Andreas for really just a 1.4, 2 pick swap and late first that could be bought. He also got rid of two bad deals.
TROFIE- I really liked the deal of Turner for for Dirt. I think it was a fair price but Turner gets him over the edge. I hated that Mj deal for KC. At this point he's just not a very good player.
3. What pick do you like best thus far in the draft? Are you surprised at a certain player falling?
BK - Isaiah Stewart 1.3, i tried to get chap to scout him but now i will never know his build :(
SAP- Without seeing the scouts, I actually like the Isaiah Stewart pick a lot. I love the rebounding and like the DEF he has. I think he could be very good. While he probably will not be elite I think he will be an extremely sound big that doesn’t have a glaring weakness.
MAJIC - Again, I have spent a total of maybe 5 minutes looking at this draft class so please take everything I say with a grain of salt. Vassell is an interesting first overall pick as he has very low rebounding and strength. The potential is there so hopefully he develops with some natural growth. Otherwise, I think the picks so far have been on par with what I might have guessed. Each of the 3 next picks have some nice qualities but a potential weakness or two that could hold them back. Onyeka is the most interesting to me, good blocking and defensive stats, jumpshot seems to be reasonable. He could be something if the inside grows and his TO’s remain manabeable.
TIM - After looking at a few scouts over and over again, my favorite pick so far has been my pick of Isaiah Stewart. His scout seemed somewhat generic at first, but the more I looked at it, the more I could see shades of Al Jefferson.
The worst picks were Wiseman and LaMelo from what I've seen. Pete doesn't really care so I guess that leaves LaMelo, who will likely need at least two dynamite handling TCs to become playable. If he gets those, however, he could be great, so there is a glimmer of hope. I'd say he has something like a 5% chance to be the best point guard in the league and an 80% chance to never be a quality starter.
FASON -I liked Heebs pick of Okongwu, perfect Pacers player with that defense Can't wait to see what he can do in year 5. Poku being still available is a bit surprising since he's 18 with A potential, but nothing feels too egregious.
TROFIE-I'm going with Onyeka for Heebs. I was torn between Onyeka and Bane and opted for the wing. He's a little risky but it's nice not having to throw points into a Jumpshot and Shotblocking for a Big
4. Rate the Return on Turner that BK got. What did he do wrong or right? Is it because the league tries screwing him over?
BK - It was a fairly bad return but thats what I was stuck with apparently after a season of heated negotations with many gms ,good thing for dirt who will be able to take the wcf with the amigos to 7 games because of this trade
SAP- I think the return for Turner is about right. I think his “Fuck It” was the right move. He was overvaluing him. Mind you we all over value our players to an extent. I just think BK’s arrogance was getting in his way for a long time. I also do not think the league is trying to screw BK over.
MAJIC - It boils down to essentially being a 1.3 and Jefferson for Turner unless I am missing something. That sounds about fair value for a long-time producer who is at the tail end of his career at 32. It honestly might be a bit an overpay given the age and salary. Maybe I am wrong, but I don’t know that BK could have expected much more value in a trade for him.
TIM - I went in depth on this above, but I'll just re-iterate that I think he's been trying to trade him for about two seasons when he had just hit 30, was getting paid over $20mil, and had just seemed to have a slightly worse season than typical. If you list him on the block two or so seasons earlier, you're probably getting 2-3x the return. And the league doesn't need to screw BK over when he does it to himself.
FASON - I think Billy's return was fine considering Turner's contract. But I do not know what what offers Billy has declined over the last few seasons. Billy probably deserves credit for potentially blowing up the Mavs cap long term if Dirt doesn't want to amnesty Turner. I'm sure that played into his thought process, good thing he's a better person than the rest of the league that goes out of their way to screw him.
TROFIE-5/10. I think it was fair value but that falls way below Bks expectations. He wanted the world and got Canada .
5. You are have the opportunity to stay in a mansion on a lake in a remote location. If you stay for a year you get 50 million dollars. You have to stay with 5 other league members. Who are you choosing and why?
BK - Odin, he would be a chill roommate and keeps to himself mostly. Downside is the possibility of loud bad music.
Chap, he is also a very chill roommate and would be predictably located playing wow. All the music he would loudly play would be good.
Ank, he seems like he would be able to bring some order and structure to the house while keeping the instructions farcical.
Sap, he would be in charge of the landscaping which is important on an remote island that can have snakes and other lizards.
Dirt, he would jumpstart the islands economy and turn it into a bustling metropolis before the end of the year.
SAP- I will choose Majic, Druce, TimPig, and the last two, I would actually not decide and take 3: 20’s, Trofie, Fason. Majic Druce and I communicate and hang out regularly so that would be easy. TimPig and I could talk about hockey nonstop. Then 20s, Trofie and Fason would be great to hang out with as we do not always agree but do have good discussion and they have great insight into things and all seem to be well rounded guys that would be a good time to hang with.
MAJIC - This is an easy answer for me as I have a couple close friends in the league and a couple others I have met in person. Sap and Druce are my first 2 choices as I have personal friendships with each of them. There is no doubt we would have our differences over to the course of that year but its better than the alternative. Tim would be my 3rd choice. I have hung out with him on numerous occasions, and he is always a good guy to hang out with. Trofie would be my 4th pick as I have always liked my interactions with him and he seems like an easy dude to hang out with. Lastly I would pick Delap, again another guy I have had plenty of interactions with and its always positive. Delap seems like he would also be the best person to keep the peace over the course of the year.
TIM - Fecta - Does he still count as a GM? I guess he has a team so I'll pick him for obvious reasons
Sap - Hockey fan who would take care of all yard-tending duties for the year
Trofie - Good guy who knows a thing or two about home upkeep
King - Good guy, great GM. Something about him tells me he's a fascinating character IRL
Fason - I know almost nothing about him IRL and want to know more
FASON -King obviously has to be one of the participants. Trofie and 20s because gbr, then Majic and Sap so we can finally see this 2 on 2 Oklahoma drill.
TROFIE- This is tough as I like most of the league for the first time ever. You can throw some out due to inactivity.(PETE). I would for sure pick Dirt as I thing he's a good honest dude who I have known forever. I would select 20's mainly because GBR. I would take Yawn so we could get slammed together. The last two are tough as I could take any combo of Tim, Druce, Delap, Majic , Sap ,Fason , Ank, Heebs. I'm going to round it out with Tim and Heebs. There isn't a bad choice of the listed fellas.
6. There is a fight on Ice between Sap, Majic, and Canes. Who wins?
BK - The best part about this is when you get hurt, the ice is right there! Sap takes this by a mile, he seems like the kind of person that gets that dead look in their eyes and just destroys their opponent.
SAP- I don’t know Canes so hard to say but I will ALWAYS bet on me. If I had the stamina I would destroy Majic. I know how to fight on ice, Majic does not. I have been in a ton of fights and even earned the nickname the Cal Bruiser from my Junior hockey days. I would fight the same kid every single day at practice.
MAJIC - Canes would lose, without a doubt. Listen, Sap felt the need to create an entire thread dedicated to validating his assumption that he could beat me in a fight. I have nothing really to say on the matter, he is old and slow and I would easily dispatch of him.
TIM - I don't know much about Canes, but it seems like there's a genuine hatred for him so I'm going to say he's first out. I had a long chat with Sap the other night about his hockey background and he played at a pretty high level, so I'm going to give him the edge. Especially after hearing that Majic is some kind of pacifist and wouldn't fight. Easy pickings for Sappy baby.
FASON - Canes will be in goalie pads so he has no chance, also because he's Canes. I'll say Majic due to his youth compared to Sap, but I'm confident that Sap would get some clean shots in.
TROFIE- Canes wouldn't get on the ice as he'd be to busy complaining about how the fight isn't fair. I'm going with Majic in a close fight due to youth.
7. What is the year that King will format his DC correctly and get his 8k?
BK - Never
SAP - I, low key, love this strategy. While setting a DC isn’t difficult, it is one less thing to worry about and 8K of a made up currency is a small price to pay for one less thing to do. I am actually rooting for him to never set a DC. I may even be willing to send him mine for every year he doesn’t set one. Meanwhile I can see why it is annoying for Eric.
MAJIC - Never? Listen, its at least a positive that he is playing Freeman as a starter and not sitting him even. You also have to give him credit for the attempts as at least he is making the effort.
TIM -
FASON- Hopefully never, every GM should pitch in to make up the 8k he loses to repay the entertainment he's provided.
TROFIE- I truly think next year is the year.
8. Chap seems to be ignoring every bit of advice BK gives him. Did something happen between them? Is this good or bad for his sim future?
BK - Chap is his own man, and since being destroyed by me in the dudley for o'koren trade hasn't trusted me. It's sad but it's life.
SAP- I like what Chap is doing here. While taking advice from a trusted source he is his own man and making his own decisions. It is what I did, while I did it too early, he is going to make this happen on his own or fail on his own. I respect it. I don’t think anything happened to him, I just think he is trying to make a name for himself. I think the “is BK, Chap and is Chap,BK?” questions were very fair for a long time. Now it is very clear and obvious they are not and I think it is great for the league. I will say, that in my opinion BK IS the most knowledgeable person here, and truly understands how to build championship teams and build players, clones of him is not good for the league. While I know I just added to BK’s enormous ego, I feel it is the truth. We need others that are willing to stir the pot and make a name for themselves.
MAJIC - I am still not convinced that BK isn’t Chap, or at least hadn’t managed the team directly for a period. Its likely that Chap was MIA for a while and BK just ran the team, this would have been the timeframe that chap was “listening to BKs’ advice”. Now that Chap is back around he is doing what he wants and Bk isn’t involved at all.
TIM - Chap won two titles in his first seven years after scoring on Breshers and Papaloukas in free agency. He's been largely irrelevant since then as a GM. Clearly something happened as BK has been making backhanded comments about Chap almost daily in shout. BK's advice to max two guys really paid off early but it hasn't seemed to have the same effect over the past few years. I'd say Chap charting his own path gives him a much higher ceiling as a GM than remaining under BK's tutelage.
FASON - I think Chap has had ENOUGH of Billy's ego and ENTITLEMENT. And good for Chap, I've always said that he is an elite GM. I expect we'll see another title or two for him with this core led by Hakeem.
TROFIE- It's fairly obvious there is trouble in paradise. They don't pod as much and Chap wouldn't even trade for Turner.
