1. What are you going to use the money you earn from this on?
: More than likely on scouting/amnesties. I'm regularly flush with cash and have a pretty steady revenue stream, so I spend pretty liberally. There is a strong chance that I mega-bomb my roster through amnesties in the next season or two and try the clean slate approach. Trade market for mid-tier players like Hill/Short doesn't seem to be hitting right now (both available for very mid picks!)... so a hard reset may be in order. I wouldn't say I squandered my chances with Kareem, I did make 4 Finals... but I definitely didn't reach the heights I wanted to. Live and learn I guess.
: Maybe scouts in the draft depending on who is there at 1.10. Also paying someone to take an undesirable contract that they can buyout.
: Upgrading my 1.7 or 2.1. I can't wait to put 30 points in Wiseman's handling!
: I will be using these funds to upgrade Rudy Gay's strength and Shawne Williams' inside next season. Not sure what the future holds for Gay besides being an inside SG, but I feel like Williams had a kind first TC and could be good down the road. Since I know this square chair will generate well over 100k, I'll use the remainder to scout Shaq and Zo next draft.
: Scouts and/or upgrades. Pretty much the only things I use money on in this league.
: Amnestying my Day 1 signing this offseason.
2. Do you wish the thing you picked for question one was earned/given in another way other than currency?
: I guess? I wouldn't mind a once-per-sim-iteration "implode" button where you just get to dump all contracts on your books and start with $0 and any picks and upgrades you have amassed. However, if that existed, I probably would've used it in like 3002 or 3003 or something, so I'd still be out of luck at this juncture.
: Not really. There is an urge to just give GMs more and more visibility freedom (e.g. 1 free on-roster scout!), but you have to balance that with the imposition on eric to deliver such things. Therefore, I'm good with what things cost (even though I'm Dirt poor at the moment.
: Assuming you mean upgrades…yea I guess so. It would be nice to get some number of free upgrades every year; maybe 30? If we’re making changes, I would get rid of the box score rewards as well, they are much too uneven for my taste. I also think both of these things are probably unpopular opinions. Others will probably say that the number of articles would go down and the heroball teams wouldn’t get their precious box score rewards. I think if you implement both changes at once it would be an easier league to participate in and people who love resetting players would still write articles. Content should be for the love of the game, not because you have to make it to stay relevant.
: Not sure how that is realistic. But I wish Chap took my offer for 1.1 so I could use the upgrades on Vassell. I also wish we'd bring back the half priced potential & gem status scout. Those are the only two things I now want with scouts. The exact builds are too much info and clouds my judgment.
: No, I think currency is the best way to handle both scouts and upgrades. I do wish there were maybe some more things we could use the currency on. The other day in shout I threw out the suggestion of paying to flatten 1st round rookie contracts so the cap hit is the same throughout the 4 seasons.
: Yes. I think amnesties being handled like buyouts or limited in some way would be better than the current system. I think the current system makes it too easy, but it also makes the sim less punishing. With so few GMs maybe we shouldnt really be punishing people and making it extra hard to reset your team.
3. Devin Vassell or Hakeem?
: Vassell, not even a question. Hakeem is great, but not elite. Vassell, from what I've gathered from the hubbub on shout, has elite potential out the gate and has elite POT and is a gem? Big time get for NYK. I don't know if Hakeem is even a Top 5 center in 2 years.
: If Vassell is actually a gem, I think it's him. Having said that, I do think we've seen somewhat of a collapse of the expected value on top 3 picks. Those used to be guaranteed All Stars and premium assets that maintained their value, but that's no longer the case. Hakeem is one of the only 1.2's in recent memory to live up to All Star status. You could argue Hakeem is more of an upgrade on the Chaps bigs than Vassell is on his solid group of wings, but there is an upside to Vassell that I don't think Hakeem has anymore (or ever had due to low strength).
: For the Chaps? Hakeem. The other GMs don’t even know what is going on with my team. Ank was telling me to run outside (I already do) and cut Carmelo (my best scorer). I’ve had to explain multiple times now that Ariza is good for my team, he provides defense and rebounding I lack in other places. Will Solomon is still getting shit on for god knows what reason. His stats are decent and the contract I gave him allowed me enough flexibility to sign Motley and Mihm. My point is maybe everyone else doesn’t know best.
Could Vassell have multiple huge TCs and end up better than Hakeem? Sure. Do I have a better chance at a championship this year? Yes. Could Vassell end up a 10 time all defensive wing? Sure. Could Hakeem still have a good TC, grow in blocking, resign with me and lead my team for years to come? Yes. But in the end people just want to shit talk. It has been happening since Bankz has been in the league blabbering about how I got fucked so bad in the Dimitris trade.
: Will all depend on how Hakeem's blocks grow but I like Vassell better because he seems like the rarer commodity. We rarely see wings that can score and put up defensive counting stats. The A potential and hidden gem +10 make it feel like a lock he becomes elite. If Hakeem gets above 2.5 BPG to go with his current steals then it's a win for both and much of the league owes Chap an apology.
: Devin Vassell for me. If he wanted to trade 1.1, I probably would have went a different direction than Hakeem. But Vassell is my type of player, a guy you know will give you efficient scoring and will create more turnovers than he causes.
: Devin Vassell. Strange choice for the chaps for me. Once Hakeem is maxed he is only an average level of wins/dollar and will be hard to move and make it hard to grow your team. That is happening in 2 seasons. If you want to try to compete in the next two years you should’ve just taken turner. If you were concerned about your team long term, should’ve taken vassel/edwards. Hakeem is a middleground that doesnt make you a contender now, and doesnt keep your team healthy in the long run either.
4. Youre gone for 2 seasons and need to appoint a co-gm to run your team for you. You can have no contact with them and they have full control to make whatever trades they want. Who do you pick?
: I trust 20s, Tim, and Heebs the most. Heebs simply wouldn't make moves, so my team would be exactly the same and that's less fun... so I'll go with Tim I guess. I think he'd make the right moves and is in better contact with some of the less-frequent traders (Mike, fecta, pointy) so he could probably wrangle some moves that others couldn't. Additionally, it would be fun to have an axe to grind the moment things go sideways and have a perfect scapegoat for any foibles. It's a win all around.
: I feel like I'd pick Heebs. He'd put a high value on all of the assets and he's least likely to "lose" trades during my 2 year hiatus. Having said that, I don't necessarily rate Heebs as the best trader in the league, but that's mostly to do with the trades he doesn't make rather than the ones he does. In other words, heebs is most likely to do a competent job and basically return to me the same roster I left him with personnel wise.
: I’d pick BK with strict orders not to make any trades if he’s been ripping bongs all day. Maybe put a GPS app on his phone and if he’s been to Wendies in the past like 12 hours the app locks him out of the tmbsl account.
: I'd trust quite a few GMs and these people all know who they are. <3
: It's probably Ank due to some similarity in team building style and I trust him to do a good job GMing as well. Plus, if there are any new GMs in the league, he probably fleeces one of them. Another one I considered was Heebs because he has been so consistent and I know he wouldn't trade away players unless he is getting top dollar for them, but I might return to have a team full of great shown defensive grades who can't shoot.
: 20s. He is the best GM with bad luck. He always makes solid trades and draft picks.
5. Ok now who do you pick that isnt 20s?
: Since I picked Tim, I'll take 20s here. He's always on time, makes the playoffs, and has done it with a variety of team structures. He'd find some gold somewhere.
: Clown question bro
: I would never pick a GM who pays Nerlens “I use my flattop as a whiteboard eraser” Noel that much money.
: I'll go with Ank because I have the most faith in him to get the most out of selling or buying players at fair prices to conserve trade assets. He gets shit done.
: Still Ank. See above.
: Wow thats a tough follow up. Still not chap. Maybe… Ank? Yes. Ank would get solid value out of my team or build it intelligently.
6. Let's say your worst enemy in TMBSL is gone for 2 seasons and you get to appoint the GM to run their team in the same way as above, who do you pick and why?
: What if I am my worst enemy? (copyright Lit)... but I don't really even know who that is. It's not you, Billy, don't flatter yourself. This isn't 5.0. The answer is easy though, I'd pick fecta because his draft record is abysmal, he doesn't spend uppies, and makes home-run trades for guys on the wrong side of the career curve. The team would be in shambles from a couple bad picks, a bad trade, and letting a decent FA walk because he forgot to send bids.
: Probably Pete so that their roster would atrophy for 2 years.
: I wouldn’t really say I have an enemy in the league. I have some good rivalries. Recently Houston and the Chaps have been going at it. I don’t wish ill will on KC though. I already mentioned him in a previous answer, the closest I’ve had to an enemy is probably Bankz. That idiot mismanaged his team so bad he made himself quit. I’ll go with him.
: Good question. If you were to take two seasons off, I'm bringing in Bunkz or Crapular to give expensive long term deals to marginal talents, trade your future picks for roll of the dice prospects and fail to fully upgrade the best player you will ever have. Then I hope they throw a temper tantrum on their way out.
: This is tricky because I want to pick someone active enough that they will actually do something to the other team so guys like Fecta and King are probably out. I think I am picking dirt not because he is bad or would ruin their team, but just because it would be the most entertaining to see all the moves he made. I think he would be even more free wheeling and dealing if he was running a team that wasn't his own and that would be a sight to see. If I was just picking the worst who is pretty active with making moves, I guess I'd probably go with majic or sap.
: I’d pick sap. There’s no one better at ruining a roster.
7. Rank the top 5 players in 6.0 history
: Expert opinion.
1. Kyrie Andrew Irving. This isn't even close.
2. Dominique Wilkins. Best wing, multiple time champ, incredible career.
3(t). Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Myles Turner. Defensive studs. Kareem a better scorer and could fit in any offense, stronger rebounder. Myles doesn't have the TO issues, but his rebounding foibles keep him from being clearly ahead of KAJ.
5. Antonio Gates. Didn't have the same peak as 'Nique, but a long and storied career.
:
Top 5:
1. Kyrie Irving - Greatest Offensive player of 6.0. Had insane longevity that may never be matched. Had great individual and team success. He's the GOAT.
2. Antonio Gates - Probably the best 2-way player in 6.0 so far (LeBron will probably unseat him). Gave insane production from the wing when that was hard to come by for most of his career. Had huge longevity as well. A bit less accolades and titles than he deserved, but he's still #2 for me.
3. Myles Turner - The best big in 6.0? Rebounding is a little below average compared to his HOF level peers, but he's so great at everything else. Incredible scoring efficiency and shot blocking without huge turnovers that plague a few others. There are some other bigs like Ibaka who maybe had a more complete individual season (Scoring + Rebounding + Defense), but Turner's consistency wins out.
4. Dominique Wilkins - I feel like he's a rich man's version of Dale Ellis and is undervalued by the Win Shares. Great rebounding at the SF position has been the secret sauce of many great teams, and he certainly gives you that. And then you couple that with low turnovers and obscene Pts/Tsa, and I think you have on of the top 5 most impactful 6.0 players to date.
5. LeBron - With his turnovers under control, he seems like he might be the first player who will no only have no weaknesses to his game, but will truly only have strengths. He rebounds, he scores efficiently for volume, he defends, he can be listed as a scoring option without TO trouble, he can play in any style offense. I mean it's absurd. He also plays 40 minutes per game which is an underrated part of how players can differentiate at the top end. He's basically always on the court adding wins. I think the basement for his career is #2, and there's a good chance he overtakes Irving when it's done.
:
Theodoros Paploukas
Hakeem Olajuwon
Mike O’Koren
Lonzo Ball
Kyrie (but it's a distant 5th)
:
Of the player's that I've seen:
1. Kyrie - Yes, as a Jazz
2. Kareem - Absurd two way player
3. Turner - Imagine how his career would have gone had he played under a GM that used all of his upgrades
4. Wilkins - On a title contending team at almost every stop in his career
5. Lebron - I'm sure he'll move up but still only in year 5
h/t to Antonio Gates, Dajuan Wagner, Serge Ibaka and Larry Bird they were all tough to leave off
: Here we go:
Kyrie Irving - the GOAT. I traded this pick for Luke Maye. Everyone laugh at me.
Antonio Gates - Still 2nd in Win Shares all time and positional scarcity gives him an edge here. We don't really see wings with his ability to rebound and still score efficiently much these days. Have to remember what the league was like when he was playing since he was a creation guy. His 1.15 career number is more impressive than it looks on first glance.
Dajuan Wagner - Best SG in league history. Amazing P/tsa, amazing WS/48, great defense, didn't turn it over. Was the MVP of the great Lakers teams.
Myles Turner - Best big in league history. Has done it the entire time with 5 unused upgrade points due to his incompetent GM! Could have a case for #2 on this list by the time his career is over.
Carlos Boozer - Tough decision between him and Dominique, but I gave the edge to Boozer because of lower turnover rates and better WS/48. I will probably be the only one with Boozer, but I think he is undervalued and also this gives me 2 wings, 2 bigs and a PG.
:
Kyrie Irving - Best PG OF ALL TIME
LeBron James - I think he is the best on court contribution we’ve seen at this point
Larry Bird - Elite. People sleep on this guy. Heebs keeping giannis over bird is the most hilarious shit.
Myles Turner - Probably the best overall big in the history of the league. I’m a bad GM.
Dajuan Wagner - Ridiculously good player that came out of nowhere. 6.0s cinderella to Pete’s ugly stepmother.
8. Rank the bottom 5 active GMs
: This seems mean, but I guess I have to.
1. King. The DC thing alone is a work of art, but nothing about the team build has made sense from the jump... and he seems somehow proud to not learn anything about how to be good at this.
2. Fecta. He meets the minimum bar for activity, I guess. See explanation above.
3. Mike. Understandable, though, he has a lot going on and is really nice. I don't think he drafts poorly or really makes awful decisions, just doesn't upgrade or have the time to massage deals over time or anything.
after those 3 it's a bit trickier because I think everyone else has strong points and are at least competent GMs... so NO OFFENSE to the 2 guys below. I like you.
4. Majic. Working on deals with him is like with Heebs... not that they are hard to work with necessarily, but they are not ones to trade unless it is a clear "win" for them, which really lessens the likelihood of trades happening. His teams usually have good players, but never arranged in a way to be a real contender.
5. Sap. Sap reminds me of me in 5.0... takes a big swing on the wrong guys, never really capitalizes on the talent on the roster. He's trying out there and moving and shaking, which is good, but it might just be bad luck.
:
Mean question but ok:
1. Fecta - How are we defining active? Technically he still is, but his team is terrible and he's stopped making any moves.
2. Pointy - Basically the same as Fecta. Has kind of stopped trying. I hope he and Fecta (and Pete) re-engage a bit to at least try to create a playoff contender. We should probably increase the missed playoff bonus to help them do that?
3. King - His team has been hapless, but he is at least making some moves to build a squad which puts him above Fecta and Pointy for me. King's big issue is not using any upgrades on his guys. I think he has a playoff team but he just doesn't upgrade people.
4. Majic - I think he's long struggled to have a handle on player valuation in the draft and FA for 6.0. More often than anybody else, I'll scratch my head at some of the players that Majic either values highly at the top of the draft or is paying big money for in free agency. He's been stagnating for a long, long time which is not good.
5. Sapular - Not sure what to make of Sap. I feel like he makes some solid moves individually, but he ofetn fails to follow it up appropriately, so his team continues to flounder. He's loaded up on mid 1st round picks in the coming years at least, so I'll be interested to see how he uses them. Hopefully, he can put together a solid foundation for when his 1.1 finally arrives in 3032. Free advice for Sap: if you don't have Free agency money every offseason between now and 3032, you've likely done something wrong.
:
In no particular order
kingb4yah
Mike
pointyegg
20s
TimPig
:
Didn't include Fecta here since he's never here and rarely answer PMs.
In alphabetical order.
Chap - Yes, he's won two titles and deserves credit for those. Buuuuuuut those were so long ago and it has felt like he's sat on his hands for the last 15+ seasons while trying to build through the draft with a BPA approach, until yesterday.
Fason - I still maintain that Billy sabotaged me when he was DM but I have not done the best job or drafted well. I've been too passive about trying to build around somebody I thought was elite rather than just going and getting somebody. Well this ends next season, if Shaq is good. If not, this proves Tim's a horrible DM that went out of his way to screw me over and we continue to wait for what hopefully is Bill Walton or George Gervin in 3032 with hopefully a new DM.
King - Great league presence but terrible GM. Hopefully he can turn it around now that Ank has taken him under his wing.
Majic - Don't believe I've seen the Blazers close to contention during my time. I think he's let his hatred of the wheel get in the way of how he's running his team.
Sap - With Mo Williams, this is now makes two PGs that he's completely RUINED. Sap feels like my eastern conference counterpart by jumping in and out of trying to compete and coming up short each time due to lack of conviction.
:
The hardest part of this was determining what active GM meant, but I think you just mean current GMs in the league, so here are mine:
Kingb4yah - he's only made the playoffs once in his 13 seasons and can't seem to figure out the simple stuff like how to post a DC
Fecta - he is less active than king, but did put together a contending core once in 6.0. He still sucks, though
Mike - Capable at times of assembling some decent rosters and has had more important things going on that caused him to be less active, but has only made the playoffs 11 times in 27 seasons so his teams usually are bad.
Pointyegg - He has a trip to the Finals on his resume and occassionally puts together solid teams, but only 11 trips to the playoffs in 27 seasons so he is usually out. And someone has to go here.
Majic - I love Majic, but he hasn't been successful at all in 6.0. I think he has to be the most active GM with the least amount of success. Has never really had a true contending team, his team seem to top out as middle of the pack seeds in the playoffs with maybe a trip to the 2nd round, but not someone anyone thinks would win a title.
:
I’m not going to cop out and just list inactive GMs like everyone else did. I give you the worst GMs considering their skill at their best.
Pointy - Great guy, terrible GM. I wouldnt trust his opinion of a players build, and I dont think he trusts his own because he probably still just does what timpig tells him.
2. Majic - This guy is Sap’s mentor, thinks you should upgrade a point guards strength. Thinks upgrading trey burkes inside is a good idea and would pan out before 9 TCs later. Offered a 1.8 for trevor ariza. The glory days are long past majic, as the sympathy weight he’s garnered has drug his team into the gutter.
3. Mike - Mostly goes after big names because he isnt really digging deep. However, he can put together a decent team with King level effort, so there sure is skill there.
4. Sap - I was trying to figure out who was worse than Mike or Sap. I think considering activity Sap is clearly better, but Mike makes better offers and upgrades than Sap when he does them. Mike seems to have a cursory understanding of being a GM, Sap does not.
5. King - This guy is a meme he’s so bad. It’s the best meme of 6.0
Honorable mentions - yawn, ba. Both are shitty but just not quite as bad as pointy. Yawn almost made it in because he’s been trying so long but is still so bad.
9. What gives you the right?
: Billy made me do it. I didn't wanna.
: 3 rings. Count em. And Tourney of Champions title. I'm like Sim Auerbach.
Chap: At the most fundamental level our universe is a set of entangled degrees of freedom in a finite but unimaginably huge Hilbert space. As the entanglement between both local and non-local systems undergo decoherence, our universe branches out and over the eons we find ourselves on this branch, the universe experiencing itself, enjoying some sim basketball.
: I included myself so you know I was fair.
