Dirt's 3028 Mock Draft
1. New York Knicks (from Texas Chaparrals) - Devin Vassell SF 6'7'' 195 20 B, B, B, C, C- A, Florida State
-Vassell is an interesting prospect to say the least. He is a mixture of MJ, Big Dog and Melo. Without giving his build away too much, it will be interesting how his volume translates from college to the TMBSL. I think after viewing everything I may have wanted to keep Hakeem over Devin. It really does determine how his TCs go to really be sure what he will be.
2. Seattle SuperSonics - Anthony Edwards SG 6'5'' 229 19 B+ C, B- C+ C, A, Georgia
-I think it’s obvious that the Sonics want a wing and Ant could be better than Vassell in a few different ways. TCs will obviously always determine who will be better but each have a shot to be something in TMBSL. If your not too worried about his TO I think you can have a dynamite player on your hands if he can get the teen TC. We have seen worst prospects taken at 2 and this could be a hell of a pick for Tim.
3. Chicago Bulls - Onyeka Okongwu - C 6'8'' 235 20 B, C, D, C+ B- A, USC
-The Bulls should take BPA here and I think it’s a toss up but I would lean towards O2 here with the potential to be a solid shot blocker and could put upgrades into inside fairly easily and turn him into a scoring shot blocking big. He will have a tough time with TOs but he truly has the pot to crack the top 5 in shot blocking in the league. You would want a little bit of a better player at 3 but I think the talent level dips a bit. I would just prefer to get a player at 3 that is already a little more polished than your standard potential build and I would want an A pot guy here.
4. Los Angeles Lakers - Aleksej Pokusevski C 7'0'' 190 18 C+ C, C, B- B- A, Potential Olympiacos
-Call me crazy you can it's alright, but I think I’m taking the newest Greek here at 1.4. He has the potential at 18 to become a monster. If he can get the LBJ type teen TCs you can have a 90+ shot blocker and who knows what else could happen. We’ve seen several 1.4s bust so why not gamble and Pete has no reason to draft a polished guy here. Give me the risky beast instead of a B pot PG who I think may be the most polished left on the board.
5. Milwaukee Bucks (from Dallas Mavericks) - Vernon Carey Jr. PF 6'9'' 258 19 B- C, C, C+ C+ A, Potential Duke
-This is a very difficult decision for Trofie and the Bucks. He has a solid roster already at the moment and if I was him, I would probably try and trade out. If he doesn’t move this pick, we’ve seen several A Pot guys become relevant and he has the patience to draft a possibly Kareem replacement. Hell, even someone he can plug next to Kareem that could play like Swift or T-Ham. I think with a possibility of a teen TC this is the correct decision for the franchise. You can argue he can take one on of the PGs here or Wiseman but I wouldn’t want Wiseman’s turnovers alongside Barkley, Kareem, and Stockton.
6. Indiana Pacers (from Pittsburgh Pipers) - James Wiseman C 7'0'' 244 19 B, C, D, C, B+ B, Memphis
-Heebs is the perfect GM to take a chance on Wiseman. He will be pateient with this guy and he needs a big man not a PG. I don’t think he’s the type to go after a C pot guy here knowing Wiseman can still grow. If he can get his handles under control and have a few good TCs with SHO and Rebounding he could have a good player. It could obviously go both ways but I think this is the pick for Indy.
7. Texas Chaparrals (from Anaheim Amigos) - Udoka Azubuike C 7'0'' 270 21 B- C, C, A- C+ C, Shot Blocking Kansas
-I don’t think Udoka is BPA here that’s for sure. I just see a Chaps roster that is flooded with PGs and we know he doesn’t want another wing. You can say this is a good 4th big for him down the road. I would trade out to someone that would want Haliburton or Ball but he may just take the defensive big here. You can build him in different ways. Make him a Montross or a Lamar Green. It’s hard to take an MLE type big here at 7 so I don’t think Udoka is drafted by Chap but I also doubt Chap trades out.
8. Atlanta Hawks - Tyrese Haliburton PG 6'5'' 185 20 C, B, B+ B+ D, B, Iowa State
-The King takes a good player here at 1.8 unless someone trades up and snags him. Crawford is getting older and the Hawks could use some new blood at the PG position. Haliburton is a solid PG prospect and B Pot can be enough to turn Tyrese into a good player. The downside to this pick is his rebounding but I personally think this is a safe pick and you won’t be disappointed if he gets upgraded. We all know that’s a big If.
9. Toronto Raptors - LaMelo Ball PG 6'7'' 185 19 C+ C, B+ C, C, A, Illawarra (Australia)
-Delap will be the GM that takes the chance on LaMelo Ball. He is an outstanding rebounder at his position and with his length could be a wing in TMBSL. We’ve seen A Pot turn PGs into MVP type players. I’ve seen Huckaby move +30 handles in 3 TCs so it is doable. Hopefully he has that 100 Pot or even if he has 90 he can jump to 90+ after his 1st TC. Just getting his handles to 2.5ish he could be a starter in this league. He does have some strengths and with those strengths like steals and rebounding there is no way he falls past 1.9.
10. New York Knicks - Mason Jones SG 6'4'' 200 22 B+ C+ C, C+ C, C, Inside Scoring Arkansas
-Mason looks good and I’m banking on him being a gem and that’s why he is placed here at 1.10. I would say Ank doesn’t need a wing but I don’t see any type of big here that he is willing to take a chance on. If I ran an outside offense, I would take a chance on Jones or Bane and I think I’d rather have the B+ inside and bump his outside to try and make him a dynamic scorer. Obviously his scout will determine this but I think he is a Cliff Alexander type of player and could very easily go here in the top 10.
11. Toronto Raptors (from Milwaukee Bucks) - Isaiah Stewart II C 6'8'' 250 19 B, C, C- C+ A- C, Washington
-Stewart was the crown jewel in college stats. He had a league leading 24 PER and that’s hard to ignore. 26/12 line with average FT% is pretty dang good for a rookie with C Potential. I would argue he is the most polished player in the draft and could very easily make his way into the Raptors starting lineup day one with upgrades. A- Inside with A- Rebounding and just because he may have 46 Pot he can still stay relevant in the league for when Delap is ready to compete again. Which if LaMelo can do something he could be setting himself up with a rebuild fairly quick.
12. Charlotte Hornets – Desmond Bane SG 6'6'' 215 22 C+ B+ C- B- C, B, Three Point Shot Texas Christian
-Fecta takes BPA and always will. I think it’s pretty obvious Bane can be a player in this league. We’ve seen several of these SGs turn into something solid and with the 1.12 selection I think he’s a no brainer. He has the best outside scoring in the draft class and should be ready to put up 3s wherever he goes. If he is a gem, I can see him going in the top 10.
