PreSeason - Initial Rankings I love the looks of the depth in this class. Lots of guys ready to play, lots of guys with potential to grow... just lots of chances for success here. Not sure who the studs will ultimately be and I expect a big re-shuffling after upgrades and regular season play. Also, I have a pretty bad migraine right now, so I'll blame that for any brain farts or odd ordering.
1. Maurice Ager - Carolina Cougars The next great SG in the Tarheel State? Ager is 2nd in P/TSA on strong volume and steals the ball almost as often as he coughs it up. Rebounding is a bit weak, but that's not what he's being asked to do. Shown POT is B, so there is some hope for another year or two of strong natural growth.
2. LaMarcus Aldridge - Carolina Cougars Another Coug in the mix at the top. I think he'll end up as a scoring machine with just enough defense to get by. His biggest weakness is rebounding, where he is far below average. This ranking is mostly based on PreSeason output and not future growth, but rebounding is the easiest attribute for bigs to have major strides in... so maybe?
3. Ryan Hollins - Cleveland Cavaliers Another CC representative... Hollins projects as a strong 2-way player if his FT shooting gets some love. He, like Aldridge, needs some rebounding love, but he is not as low. His POT might be pretty weak, though.
4. Hassan Adams - San Antonio Spurs Big-time scoring grades and still showing A POT, Hassan could be the real A1 player of this class (hence the 1st overall pick) if Pointy points him in the right direction and a little luck.
5. Pops Mensah-Bonsu - Milwaukee Bucks Destined to be a Glue Guy nominee annually, Pops is dominant on the glass, has high stocks/bleals, and is incredibly low-usage. Love this guy.
6. Paul Davis - Indiana Pacers Like Mensah-Bonsu with worse rebounding but actually has some offensive potential... but that's the only kind of potential he has, as he is already down to shown D POT, so his ceiling is definitely limited.
7. Patrick O'Bryant - Anaheim Amigos The greatest Irishman to join TMBSL, Patty O'B looks a lot like a more unrefined Paul Davis, but actually has a ton of POT remaining, so his base is worse (especially on the glass) but ceiling could be higher. We'll check back in on this 5-7 range post-uppies and 40 days and likely see some shuffling/separation.
8a. Ronnie Brewer - Chicago Bulls 8b. Jeremy Richardson - San Antonio Spurs
Brewer is another Glue-type... strong defensive player, low usage, but very very solid P/TSA so he isn't really hurting you in any way. His biggest question mark will be if he gets the necessary upgrades in the future to be a more well-rounded player. Richardson lands on the ladder because of his #1 in the class P/TSA. He's a decent rebounder and not terrible defensively, all while not turning the ball over, either.
10. Craig Smith - Syracuse Nationals The Minor-League Special of the opening ladder is the Craigster upstate. Looks like a strong all-around big, no major flaws, no overwhelming strengths. Could be a 4th big pretty easily right now and maybe even a 3rd in the right situation.
Honorable Mentions:
Points: Sergio Rodriguez - Carolina Cougars Jordan Farmar - Atlanta Hawks
Wings: Shannon Brown - Orlando Magic Rudy Gay - Utah Jazz
Bigs: Josh Boone - Vancouver Grizzlies Chris Copeland - Pittsburgh Pipers Shawne Williams - Utah Jazz Vladimir Veremeenko - Chicago Stags Paul Millsap - Milwaukee Bucks Mouhamed Sene - Cleveland Cavaliers Solomon Jones - Houston Rockets Edin Bavcic - Texas Chaparrals

Day 40 UpdateI remain in the "this class is very good" camp, despite no clear All-Star type of player. Love the depth of these guys and there is plenty of POT to go around and pump these guys up. 1. Paul Davis - Indiana Pacers (previous: 6)1st in P/TSA, 1st among non-CPU players in p/36, rebounds well, 2nd highest blocks/36, and low TOs... this guy is very very very good right now. His POT is all messed up (probably), but his output is far enough above the rest right now to make that a secondary concern. 2. Patrick O'Bryant - Anaheim Amigos (previous: 7)Rebounding machine (tops in the class), high POT, and nothing that is disqualifying except for his total lack of blocks. It is pretty hard for a center to be as low as he is (0.4 per 36), so unless he hits some MASSIVE TC luck, that just isn't gonna be a thing he ever does. 3. J.J. Redick - Texas Chaparrals (previous: NR)After failing to appear on the PreSeason ladder, the Poet is here with a strong start. #3 in P/TSA, incredibly low TO, and not disgusting rebounding (but not good either)... his steal rate is low for a SG, but that should get some natural growth. 4. Marcus D. Williams - Toronto Raptors (previous: NR)4th in P/TSA, decent defense, and shrinking TOs (sub-3.0/36, barely), Williams has decent POT and upgrades remaining and should get all the opportunities he needs to show if he really belongs on the Ladder going forward. There are 3 more PGs coming up that should both be in contention for the top honors at the position, so his spot is tenuous for now. 5. LaMarcus Aldridge - Carolina Cougars (previous: 2)Very small sample for "The"Marcus, but WOOF at that rebounding. Everything else looks very nice, strong P/TSA, good block rate, virtually no TOs... but a big can't be averaging under 7 boards/36 and expect to be any higher than this on the Ladder. He'll complain that Withey and Noel are taking all his boards, but I'll point out that I don't care. 6. Damir Markota - Pittsburgh Pipers (previous: NR)This dude with the high-fantasy name (sounds like a half-elf or a bard or something) is a solid all-around PF, has a fantastic grade-set, and just barely got pumped full of upgrades that should vault his rebounding numbers even higher. He's one to watch, as he's getting a lot of PT and should have every opportunity to prove his worthiness. 7a. Hassan Adams - San Antonio Spurs (previous: 4) 7b. Brandon Roy - Charlotte Hornets (previous: NR)Not many rookies are getting starter's minutes, but both of these young wings are. Adams, the top pick, looks to be strong overall, but has a TO issue that will keep him from elite status unless it is corrected. He has yet to receive any upgrades, so there is still much room for improvement (along with very high POT). He is getting his hands on the ball a lot on defense, averaging 2 steals/36. Roy is shooting efficiently, just not at a volume you want. Unlike Adams, though, he is not turning it over at all and could make a leap with inflated usage. He also has all his upgrades remaining, so if fecta ever uses them, maybe he can play. 9. Paul Millsap - Milwaukee Bucks (previous: HM)Very similar to Patty O'B so far, with the same major strengths and same weaknesses, just not quite as much POT. His playing time may dip with the arrival of Kareem in MKE, but he's very deserving of a ladder spot and could easily make the leap to the Aldridge/Markota group if he is just a tad more efficient. 10a. Chris Quinn - Anaheim Amigos (previous: NR) 10b. Kyle Lowry - Los Angeles Lakers (previous: NR)Quinn is getting decent burn in Orange County and has the makings of a decent PG. No upgrades yet, but if things go well and his FT%/3p% get the love they need he could be a starter sooner rather than later. His rebounding rate is very good for a rookie PG. Lowry is running the show for the ShowUpSomeTime Lakers. He is careful enough with the ball and rebounds very well. He should be a defensive stud and will likely be a late-uppie getter (year 3? year 4? year 5?) and we may not see his full booty self until that point. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Sergio Rodriguez - Carolina Cougars
Wings: Rudy Gay - Utah Jazz Tarence Kinsey - Orlando Magic Thabo Sefolosha - Pittsburgh Pipers Jeremy Richardson - San Antonio Spurs
Bigs: Mouhamed Sene - Cleveland Cavaliers Craig Smith - Syracuse Nationals Marquinhos Vieria - Philadelphia 76ers Alexander Johnson - Orlando Magic

Day 80The only big move is that O'Bryant falls off the ladder due to injury and lack of PT, though we at The Ladder Company, Inc. still really like him. 1. Paul Davis - Indiana Pacers (previous: 1)#2 in P/TSA, near the top in scoring volume, and 1st in blocks, Paulie D is the consummate Pacer. His rebounding is average-ish and his POT is low, but he's clearly the most productive player right now and that overcomes the lower future potential disadvantage he carries. 2. J.J. Redick - Texas Chaparrals (previous: 3)#3 in P/TSA, never turning it over, and scoring at a higher rate than I expected. Maxed on uppies, but may have a season or two of good uppies left (I don't know where he started). Would love to see a few more rebounds here and there, but oh well. 3. Paul Millsap - Milwaukee Bucks (previous: 9)Big leap for the 2nd best Paul in the class. All the way up to #4 in P/TSA and his rebounding and scoring have actually increased along side the great Kareem. Still not a shot blocker, but the TOs are low and he still has room to grow. 4. Jordan Farmar - Atlanta Hawks (previous: NR)A wild PG-king contender appears! From off the board to #4, Farmar's stats have really improved over the last 40. All the way up to #5 in P/TSA, averaging a healthy 17p/36 and under 2.5 TOs/36, Farmar has decent POT and still hasn't been upgraded at all. In the right set of moves he could end up as a strong starter. His glaring weakness is rebounding, but that's fairly easy to ignore among point guards. 5. Hassan Adams - San Antonio Spurs (previous: 7a)Mr 1.1 still hasn't received upgrades and should still have 1 or 2 Tier 5 TCs left, so he isn't a finished product at all. For now, though, he's just under league average in efficiency and his TOs are creeping up... but everything else looks good. Rebounding #s are decent, steal rate is solid, and he still has the framework that propelled him to the top of the draft. 6a. LaMarcus Aldridge - Carolina Cougars (previous: 5) 6b. Damir Markota - Pittsburgh Pipers (previous: 6)A pair of PFs with similar strengths and each with their own weakness as well. Aldridge's sample remains incredibly small, so we can't project too too much, but... home boy can't rebound at all. If that remains the case he just won't be playable later. That said, his TOs are tiny, too... and his shot blocking numbers are among the best in the class. He and O'Bryant remain HUGE wild cards just because of small sample. Markota is just a solid all-around player with the veneer of fantastic grades... but are they for real? Rebounding is pedestrian and defensive stats are not non-existent... but they aren't great either. He's been MAXed on uppies, so he'll rely on natural growth from here on out. 8. Kyle Lowry - Los Angeles Lakers (previous: 10b)A stout defender, decent POT, and still holding all his upgrades... Lowry has been handed the starting job at the Crypto.com Arena and acquitted himself quite nicely. 9a. Brandon Roy - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 7b) 9b. Randy Foye - Seattle SuperSonics (previous: NR)A SG pair round out the ladder. Almost identical in P/TSA (slightly below league average) and rebounding... Roy gets the edge by being steadier with the ball (though Foye appears to be the stronger thief). Neither has received any upgrades, so both could be in line for improvement on the Sophomore Staircase. Bonus Spot: 11. Maurice Ager - Carolina Cougars (previous: NR)The PreSeason #1 finally got some minutes and still looks great! But only 13 GP makes it hard to include him in the standard portion. He's good, though, so he gets a special spot in this update and I'll spend the next few sims figuring out where he belongs without any additional MP. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Sergio Rodriguez - Carolina Cougars Marcus D. Williams - Toronto Raptors Chris Quinn - Anaheim Amigos
Wings: Rudy Gay - Utah Jazz Steve Novak - Orlando Magic Thabo Sefolosha - Pittsburgh Pipers
Bigs: Pops Mensah-Bonsu - Milwaukee Bucks Mouhamed Sene - Cleveland Cavaliers Craig Smith - Syracuse Nationals Patrick O'Bryant - Anaheim Amigos

Final StandingsI don't love love love the high-end of this class, but I see a lot of depth here, so that's good for the health of the league overall. Congrats to Trofie for having the top of the ladder... 1k to him, from my bank, please mr. TinyTimPig1. Paul Millsap - Milwaukee Bucks (previous: 3)Up to #1 in P/TSA, proving he can contribute to a top tier team with a large sample, and a strong statistical profile in every way (except shot blocking)... Millsap is the real deal. 2. Paul Davis - Indiana Pacers (previous: 1)Ultimately falls below the other Paul in the last update, where is just a little bit worse at basically everything (except shot blocking) and has lower POT. Still a great player, especially for his early years. 3. J.J. Redick - Texas Chaparrals (previous: 2)Ultimately I decided that his ceiling may be a little bit more limited, so he falls a tad from last update. However, he's very very very good. I think Ager/Adams might end up better, but Redick's present-value/larger sample lands him this spot. 4. Jordan Farmar - Atlanta Hawks (previous: 4)This man should be the starting PG in Atlanta and I don't think it's close. Same as last update, he could be a great player with the right upgrades and a small hint of luck. 5a. Hassan Adams - San Antonio Spurs (previous: 5) 5b. Maurice Ager - Carolina Cougars (previous: 11)Ager has looked better so far, Adams has the higher POT, but both could contend for best player from this class with the right TC love and steady GMing. Ager didn't play a ton, so that is really the only knock on him, but his PreSeason output definitely shows he isn't a small sample wonderful. Adams slowly inched up in P/TSA over the season and his TOs have inched down. After some questions about his worthiness at 1.1 were percolating, I think it's safe to say it wasn't a bad pick. 7a. LaMarcus Aldridge - Carolina Cougars (previous: 6a) 7b. Damir Markota - Pittsburgh Pipers (previous: 6b) The PF-Pairing drops a bit, but still should give their GMs hope for the future. Aldridge's sample is really small, despite playing in every game. Markota's grades are crazy... but production isn't quite what you would expect from the letters. Both need a little inside love to up their P/TSA, as their FT% isn't too bad. 9. Steve Novak - Orlando Magic (previous: HM)A potential target for someone in Free Agency this year, Novak could be a great scoring wing in an outside offense... but he's not SG eligible and his rebounding is a bit weak. That said, probably worth a flyer for someone with some space. 10. Mouhamed Sene - Cleveland Cavaliers (previous: HM)After hanging out on the HM list all season, Sene makes his debut at the end. Rebounding got better and better, P/TSA did, too. He's not going to be an elite scorer or blocker, but seems to be great on the boards, grades look decent, and should be a rotation big for quite a while. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Kyle Lowry - Los Angeles Lakers Sergio Rodriguez - Carolina Cougars
Wings: Brandon Roy - Charlotte Hornets Randy Foye - Seattle SuperSonics Rudy Gay - Utah Jazz
Bigs: Pops Mensah-Bonsu - Milwaukee Bucks Craig Smith - Syracuse Nationals
