A physically gifted lead guard, LaMelo Ball is a wizard with the ball in his hands due to his highlight reel abilities. With his length and long stride, Ball is capable of getting from the perimeter to the paint quickly and uses his height and leaping ability to finish capably inside. With his exceptional size and wingspan, he should be able to defend guards and maybe even a few of the league's small forwards, but his effort on that end has been highly questionable in the past. Either way, he should be able to jump passing lanes to generate steals and start fast breaks. It's perhaps no surprise that he's an excellent rebounder for his position, grabbing almost 8 per contest last year. With his scoring, passing, and rebounding abilities, he'll be a triple-double threat on any given night... even if it means ten turnovers.
While his jumper and perimeter shot are enough to keep defenders in Australia honest, neither is overly refined at this point and will need development at the next level. He'll need to add strength to continue to be an effective inside scorer in TMBSL and scouts worry about his nonchalant attitude on defense, which will surely lead to at least one or two easy baskets per game for whoever he is guarding.
Scouts were once worried about Ball's future due to his defensive efforts and unorthodox shooting ability, but his growth and performance during his one season in Australia quelled those concerns. There’s unanimous agreement among front office executives that he has a bright TMBSL future.
