The Conclusion
6. Let's focus a minute on your specific team. Talk about the league and your team a bit. What has most surprised you? Who stands out, busts? What are your thoughts on your team? For scapular, feel free to talk about any teams that interest you.
skrouse - Tony G was my biggest surprise, I thought he would be a much better scorer and a solid 5th man in my rotation, he instead was a piece of shit and was traded for it. Wrenn and Schmidt have been nice, Cota was slightly better than I expected but outside of that nothing really stands out. I think we're really good squad collectively, I've been trying to plug the holes and focus my trades around the weak points. I think bringing in Peppers really solidifies my depth problem, allowing Oscar to play the back up 2 and 3, and adding Killingsworth and Dino should help my front court scoring and defensive deficiencies, now we wait…
Soup - I thought my SG Ramunas would be a bigger contributor on the scoring end. Not being a focus and playing in an inside offense probably knocks 5ppg off his average though. I mentioned earlier but Craft has been disappointing to me. I haven't updated him yet and run an offense not ideal for him but once I landed Papalok, Craft became expendable. I haven't been able to trade him to anyone yet, so I think I'll hold onto him and pimp his game next season. A couple of my back up guys have been great for me and I didn't expect they'd be contributing as much.
I like where my team is at. I should be a contender for 2-3 seasons. I will have some regrets if I moved all in and am not able to win a title but that's the way the sim crumbles.
Bankz - I touched on this above but I'm disappointed in my team. I've shipped off most of the limited talent I had. Still clinging hope that Muhamad might develop but its a long shot. My focus is on the 3001 draft, whenever the fuck that kicks off because we got a cock measuring contest going down. Right now the good people in Philadelphia need to #TrustTheProccess because success will come. With hopefully a little luck in free agency and snagging the correct trio in the draft we might compete in 3001 and beyond.
Yawn - I was really really happy with the draft. I liked coming out with Appleby, Oriakhi and Cosic. I'm happy with my team, I'd like it more if Drew had a bit more of an impact but I am hopeful once we hit TC. I think I'll be ok if Sharrar resigns but kinda sad to sit out of the draft for the next few years.
I love the Grizzlies. They've ground my teams to dust and I just gotta put my hands up and say well done. There are a lot of teams out there where I look at their contract situation with these long term Creation deals and they just look gross. I'm ok with my team but I wasn't I'd want my situation to look like the Warriors. Clean Slate reboot baby.
Sapular - So I like the Clippers, the Grizz, and I LOVE the roster on the Pelicans and am very interested to see how they would play if they were being run by an active GM. I think they have a young solid core that can be built around and with a few solid FA’s they could be very good. I also like the contract situation that the team has.
IanBoyd - As previously mentioned, my team isn't going to be making any noise for the next few seasons besides throwing out some free agent offers and maybe moving those pieces for additional picks. The GM that surprised me the most is yawn, making a move the caliber that hasn't ever been associated with his GM tenure before. I also thought that ankly would have made at least 1 somewhat major move by now, but Bojan is still young and he has him on contract for 5 seasons so standing pat this year isn't that big of a deal yet.
Dirt - After trading Gathers and getting the Drazen Ian combo, i really like it. I think i've lost 2 of my last 29 games. I'm not very confident but i do think i'm low key the favorite. Hines has really turned into a beast after his uppies. I have so many scorers and they all have elite FG% and that's very important to me. There are 6 teams that have a chance so I'm not thinking i have it in the bag. I think it should be a good playoffs and i can't wait to find out who pulls it out.
Druce - I honestly haven’t been too surprised by my team per se. I guess I thought Lenny Cooke would shoot more, but I’ve got a slew of scorers so that’s not too shocking. I’m very happy with how my picks have turned out. That took me a minute to type and it’s abundantly clear that’s all you want.
20’s - My team is just okay. Chief is good but has his major flaw. Diebler is a capable scorer. Austin should be able to develop into a nice complementary d.r big. I have other good contributors but not guys I plan to build around or guys who can't be replaced. I wish I had focused more on getting another high level, elite scoring wing during the draft. They were pretty rare and I was sorely missing another good wing this season.
Another regret is taking someone who was only on 1 year deal in round 1. It completely hamstrung what I was able to do as far as in-season trading this year because I couldn't take on anyone who wasn't expiring as I would have ruined my cap space to resign Chief. Hopefully my top 10 picks in the next two drafts and other assets coming down the line can be used to elevate my team to contender status in the next few seasons. I really just want to be a consistently competitive playoff team for a while, though.
Majic - Honestly I expected my team to be pretty terrible after creation draft completed. Preseason seemed to give me some brief hope but ultimately my team ended up being pretty bad. My biggest “surprise” was probably how bad my second round pick was/is. I saw his age and hoped that over a couple seasons he could develop but very quickly it was apparent that was not going to be worth the wait. Thankfully I was able to get out of the contract and am set moving forward. MY biggest focus right now is keeping a clean cap and capitalizing on Free Agency and potentially the trade market.
7. Draft talk! A hot topic throughout the creation draft was the overall grades and how they would translate compared to incoming classes. The first regular draft class grades are now posted, how do you feel about this topic now? Any concerns?
skrouse - I haven't dug into the 3001 draft grades that much as I do not have a pick. Clyde looked good from what I saw but that's really it. I hope the rookies come in fairly close to how the creation guys looked. That way the GMs that invest time in the upgrades get the payoff. It's a win win for the league as a whole. More activity, more content, better players.
Soup - Grades and draft classes and how they compare/translate is something I don't worry about. I trust in Eric fully when it comes to things like that and feel he does enought testing that he will know if he needs to make a change and will do so accordingly. Also, who really cares about draft grades when you can just pay 12k to see what every nominal grade is?
Bankz - I think a few prospects stand out and a few look disappointing. Once again it looks like the land of C's and I don't know outside of random luck how you judge a player to take off the grades alone. I know some 5.0 GMs have stressed reading the profiles and I have done that. With that said I joined a conglomerate and scouted over a dozen prospects for this class and that has been a huge help. I've got my eye on about 6 prospects that I think could be good to great players in the league with proper development. So with that knowledge and the fact that I hate the 1980 class on paper and there isn't a single player from a fan prospective I would like to groom I choose to go all in on this class.
Yawn - A. I'm happy there are some craptastic players. I think the top is better just because they can fill out into super duperstars but I think that hides that the middle is still pretty C grade heavy. I don't have any concerns because I'm not a Grade slut. Keep grades low, it annoys the living shit out of people.
Sapular - I do not have much to add to this as I have no context.
IanBoyd - It looks better at first and second glance than what the doomsaying 5.0ers were saying about eric built classes, the ability to full +30 a rookie right away is a game changer and can patch up holes in a real hurry. The most important thing with regular classes compared to the creation file to me is that though some of the guys after the top 10 look to have similar mediocre grades as the creation 3-5th rounders; they're either 10 years younger or have at least 1-2 higher letter grades of true potential. A player with C+ C D+ D+ C and A potential that's 22 years old looks a lot better than that exact same grade set on a 34 year old D potential guy.
Dirt - Well i've seen about 14 scouts and i think some grades are really good but i dislike the potentials. I think some players are what you see and other plays may have a chance at being a great player. The league is gaining some rebounders and defenders and that's good. I can see about 5 players really bringing an impact to the league. Some may take a few years but i truly believe they are good players. I only traded out because i want to keep some trade capital in draft picks instead of a young player.
My only concern like I've said previously is those with fringe top 10 will draft trash every year. I was really hoping for more A potential guys but they just aren't there. It will slow down inflation tho and that's probably more important than drafting a starter at 10.
Druce - I think the draft class grades look pretty high compared to creation guys. There are like 4-5 rookies that I think would be top 15 creation picks. I’m sure Eric has tested the class and I’m not concerned that it’s too good so whatever, it is what it is.
20’s - I have a bunch of scouts along with majic and bankz. I think the draft is solid. I wasn't sure what to expect with how the creation file was created and how BK was constantly saying the draft guys were going to be garbage. I am pleased with the draft class.
I also love how the league is currently built. I think the creation file was great. We have positional balance, bigs who can score, guys who turn it over a lot, and not all the teams are built the same. It is really great so kudos to eric on that.
Majic - For me personally I have no concerns at all. I have been fortunate to see the top 14 prospects in the current draft and think it looks like a pretty strong class. In my opinion this draft has 3-4 guys that should be elite but also have a flaw or two. I think that's a good balance and it's how eric has built most prospects to this point. It seems that creation had enough star talent at the top, even if the middle tier of players seems to be a little smaller. I think the infusion of rookies over the next 2-3 years will reshape the league to those that built through the draft.
Let's end with a few fun questions, and yes I stole these from an old 5.0 RT but I thought they would be fun to do again:
8. Rank your top 3 Best and Worst GMs as employees for their companies.
skrouse -
Top 3 - Delap (smart guy), Tim (another smart guy), Soup (if he's in sales, he has to do that very well)
Bottom 3 - Boomslick (does that guy even show up to work?), Odin (as he doesn't have one), Chap (still can't believe he's a professor)
Soup -
Best
1. Delap - smart, family oriented, don't have to worry about showing up to work hungover.
2. JHB - the way he talks about his job it seems he's capable of putting up with a lot of bullshit. Even keel, probably not many highs or lows. Dependable.
3. Skrouse - seems to have some of the same traits as Delap and JHB. The way he does his job duties on the board and is willing to back his boss eric on every breath shows loyalty.
Worst
1. BK - his customer service skills seem to be really lacking. Anyone who thinks they were a great employee because they showed up on time isn't someone I want on my payroll.
2. Chap - sorry lad, but guilty by association at this point. I can picture Chap and BK huffing whippets like the two busser boys in the movie Waiting.
3. boomslick - I mean this guy just wouldn't show up to work, right?
Bankz -
Best Employee...
20s- He's level headed and calm and cool. Seems like a reliable dude and one who would take his role seriously
Ward - Just a steady personality. Highly successful with a mind for doing the best. A pure winner.
Delap - Good guy, quite and just get's the job done. Something to be said about a person who doesn't rock the boat and just works at it.
Worst Employee...
Dirt- Love the guy but we see he can't commit to one roster for longer than 3 days. Who knows how long he would stick around his job.
Soup - Can only have one CEO and that would be me. Soup loves control and I could see us clashing in the work environment. He would want what I have.
Heebs - He would drive me insane with his bullshit. You need a healthy and happy work environment and my sanity is high on the list. We can't have him three way calling me to work out details after business hours are done. He would do that. I know from experience.
Yawn -
Worst
1. Bankz - oh my god. So many questions. And you can't fire his ass because you know he's going to complain the entire time.
2. Odin - I have concerns about his ability to show up
3. Eric - Incredibly hardworking, knowledgeable and committed. But if things aren't done by the books would be a roadblock and lead to me screaming the word FUCK real loud.
Best
1. Heebs - total kiss ass
2. Ank - Kisses the ass of the kiss ass
3. Delap - Seems normal.
Sapular - So first I will have Eric as he appears to love spreadsheets and metrics and you always need a good metrics guy. Secondly, would be 20s because I need another smart ass in the office and it appears he is a bit of a smart ass and Third I would have fake Ian because all the Ian’s.
IanBoyd -
Best:
1. eric - can't do better than a literal robit.
2. heebs - upper management, if he can't do the job he can just boss around someone that can handle the role.
3. ba - dude is so dedicated to his job that he can't even spare 5 mins a day to log on the board and check out sim results, who wouldn't want a worker that puts in 24 hrs a day?
Worst:
1. dachap - A gangsta Physics professor? something ain't adding up there
2. fecta - His vegan diet can't possibly give him enough energy to get through an entire day's hard work, no wonder he got smoked by 11 year old Kenyan kids.
3. Irush - Likely more concerned with his next pot of coffee or his next set of reps than whatever spreadsheet he's working on.
Dirt -
Best:
1.Ian - He's a smart hard nosed dude. I feel like i could give him info on sales and he would plug away and give me a solution to make my company or job better.
2. Eric - Same as Ian. Won't be pushed around, knows his numbers, and won't sway from doing something he shouldn't do.
3. Bankz - I think Bankz is a guy who will shoot the shit at the water cooler and will do what he needs to get his shit done. He may not be the guy that works 15 hours a day but he'll plug away at 10 hours and make sure his work is done on time. He doesn't seem afraid of conflict and will put up with bullshit and still finish his work.
Worst:
1. BK - I think he looks on his phone more than he works. He's the first in the building and first to leave. I'm not saying he doesn't get his work done but i think he would be a guy to brag about doing a job that took him 4 hours to do when he should have spent 10 hours on it. He's the employee you don't want to hire but need to hire at the same time. He's the guy you just don't want to talk to because he keeps bringing up West Virginia Basketball and you just don't care.
2. Trofie - He seems like the co-worker that will punch you if you fuck up something. I'm not saying he's a bad worker but i think he would get written up a lot. possibly for late arrivals or arguing with his superiors and others around the office. He's the guy that shows up smelling like alcohol and only had a few hours of sleep the night before.
3. Odin - I think Odin would be the janitor telling the boss to give him some scrubbing bubbles when the shit he has already has scrubbing bubbles. He would be known as the tall deep voice guy that thinks his job is better than what it really is. The facts of it though is it really is a blue collar job that is very important for the business to run smoothly. He would be the guy that sends email to you late at night recommending changes that may or may not work for the company.
Druce -
Best:
ba – seemingly always working, this guy must be an ox at his place of employment, doing all the heavy lifting, putting his department on his back. Respect.
Mike – his wage for the work he does is criminally underrated making him a very valuable employee. Hasn’t been around much so I can only assume he’s busy with work as well.
Duc – he’s a teacher, and they are traditionally underpaid for the amount of work they do as well.
Worst:
Honestly this could be like a 10 way tie for the people always in shout: druce, 20s, soup, majic, ank, heebs, eric, bankz, sap, ianboyd others I’m probably missing
20’s -
Best:
ba (he works so hard he hasn't had any time in 10 days to sign in)
delap (he is willing to take a desk back in the corner hidden away from everyone)
bankz (he owns the place)
Worst:
tyler (really depends on what his job is, I guess)
bk (sounds like he gets fired everywhere)
IanBoyd (didn't he used to brag about taking naps at work?)
Majic -
Best
1. Eric - listen, eric is a robot and works for his family. No doubt that he works hard and does a great job.
2. 20’s - dad and family man, I am willing to bet he is a hard worker to provide the nice lifestyle.
3. Heebs - smart guy and I have gotten personal help/advice from him in the past.
Worst
1. Odin - not sure this guy even works, so yea.
2. Yawn - I mean the guy bangs his married co-workers then threatens to expose them to the husband. Hate to work in an office with this guy.
3. Sapular - how was your recent pass rate success percentage???? Point proven.
9. Rank your top 5 and bottom 5 GMs in regard to fist fighting?. I.E. Who are the 5 toughest and 5 weakest GMs?
skrouse - literally have nothing to go off of here
Top 5 - Odin, Majic, dirt, tim, ward
Bottom 5 - ba, jz, ian, delap, bankz
Soup -
Top
1. Trofie - this GBR just seems a little bit crazy
2. Majic - former athlete, included this question because he probably knows he can fight a little.
3. Odin - sheer size alone
4. Tim - long, lean, coached a swimming team
5. BA - Mean his initals are BA for badass. Surely he can fight.
Bottom
1. Dylan
2. Dylan
3. Dylan
4. Dylan
5. Dylan
Bankz - Hmmm guys I would want with me in a fight....
1) Soup. He's a big motherfucker and at worst might put some fear in people
2) Odin. Ughhh he's a big motherfucker and at worst might put some fear in people
3) IanBoyd. He's Asian he should know some karate shit right? I hope that isn't racist... I apologize if it was. Ian is also smart and probably could figure out a way out of the fight if we are losing.
4) Trofie - I need someone to defuse the tension. I embrace my inner heel on the board but irl I'm so anti fighter. Trofie is one of the funniest guys I know and I would need someone to turn the heat down.
5) Irush - Did you guys know he works out? Nuff said
Guys who I wouldn't want standing next to me....
1) Ank - I've hung out with Ank... He's probably taking me to a meth bar and that's why the fight is even happening.
2) Eric - I can't see this man knowing how to form a fist
3) BK - This man can't be trusted to own up to his shit and apologize like a man. Can't trust a coward and wont fight next to one.
4) Fecta - He doesn't seem to like me much. I can't see him sticking around when shit goes down
5) Heebs - He's gotten into great shape, he can climb shit like mountains, can't have someone that can tuck tail and giddy up quicker than I.
Yawn -
Best -
Soup - definitely does the “gets within 3 inches of your face and stands over you”. Might not be the best fighter but deescalates the situation by escalating the threat of violence. Probably don't want to fight Soup
Odin - only if he doesn't have to fight. Probably can take Homer vs Drederick Tatum levels of abuse
Trofie - Midwest Strong. Definitely has been involved in a drunken donnybrook at a divebar surrounded by corn.
TimPig - Deep seeded anger lurks within him. Could see him snapping and getting blood on his Chelsea boots.
Fecta - Probably will kill you with Tae Bo
Worst
Ank - I mean. Yeah if Ank is in a fight things aren't going great for him.
Irush - Going to be too high and not big enough to scare people away like Odin.
Dirt - I imagine him riding on Soup's back like those dudes on the Elephants in Lord of the Rings.
Eric - Unless he's coming down from the rafters on a zip line with a louisville slugger I think we can assume Eric ain't winning this brawl.
BA - Already backing away from 20s threats of violence.
Ian - Unless he's fighting for more sims or wingstop he's gonna get shoved in a trash can like Oscar.
Sapular - The 5 toughest and this appears to be an easy one from first glance would be
BK – See the weakest
Irush – I assume due to the name there is some Irish in him and he is super grumpy in Shout so he would have to be kind of tough
Skrouse – now this could backfire because he does run the currency and the casino so he is either very tough or a total nerd
Soup – I mean his name is GhettoSouperStar so obviously
Druce (primarily because he loves to run his mouth so I assume fists can follow.
The bottom 5 would be:
You-- because I know first hand you love to run your mouth then walk away
Pointy – because I know his GF tells him what to do and when
Trofie – because I heard him on Xbox live and his voice sounded thin and weak
BK – because, well because why not
IanBoyd -
Top:
1. eric - I ain't fighting no robit
2. Odin - I don't care how many health problems he has or claims to have, I'm not fighting the a dude with the literal size of irl Charles Barkley
3. soup - same reasons as odin, not as much a literal giant but still too tall/big.
4. mike - I know for a fact I probably can't survive in Argentina, let alone survive and still GM a sim league.
5. ba - nothing scarier than an opponent you don't know and I don't know jack shit about ba.
Bottom:
1. bk - "ever since I discovered Hims.com I fuck really well"
2-5 - doesn't matter
Dirt -
Bottom:
5. Ian - I see Ian as a short lean guy that would never fight anyone
4. Eric - Same seems like a lean dude that doesn't care enough to fight just walk away
3. Duc - Just seems like a good old boy that wouldn't harm a soul. I would guess he hasn't fought anyone.
2. Chap - He's a stoner teacher that would rather get his head in a toilet than fight back.
1. 20s - He reminds me of someone like myself were not the most confident when it comes to muscles. He would probably talk his way out of a fight before throwing down.
Top:
1. Trofie - I think trofie would throw down with someone regardless if he think he'd win or not.
2. Soup - I've grown up around a dude that should have whooped alot of peoples asses but always walks away because he's a good dude.
3. Bankz - I think Bankz attitude got him in trouble growing up and he's been in some scraps. He doesn't seem like the guy to shy away from a conflict.
4. Irush - I hear he works out yea i think he could probably fight then. Seems too loving to fight but sometimes those are the scariest guys.
5. JHB - Throws up some weights and he's not a small dude. I think a few rounds with JHB sounds like a bad idea to me.
Druce - Great question.
Toughest:
Majic – hockey player, large in stature, good shape, not one to back down
Trofie – midwestern beef, burly man, strikes me as someone you’d want on your side
Soup – large specimen, often drunk with no inhibitions, intimidating
Dirt – smaller guy, but I imagine he’s scrappy as fuck
Myself – never turned down an opportunity to engage in fisticuffs, large, deceptively quick
Weakest:
Ian – I don’t see him as a physically imposing person nor threatening what so ever
Ank - see above
Fecta – he’s a vegan, I mean is there much more to say?
BK – I don’t think he’s a violent person, passivist
Eric – do I need to explain this?
20’s -
Top 5:
Trofie
irush
TimPig
Soup
yawn
Bottom 5:
Fecta
BK
odin
IanBoyd
boomslick
Majic -
Top 5
1. Soup - guy is just massive and I wouldnt want to square up with him.
2. Trofie - another massive human, just not worth the effort.
3. Ward - wiley old veteran fighter, dont mess with the old man strength.
4. Odin - never know what this man could do, not worth the risk.
5. Ank - this might seem like an odd choice, but I feel like ank has some deep seeded anger that he could use to kill you.
Bottom 5
1. BK - I am not sure much explanation is needed
2. Eric - listen eric is a robot, but not the terminator kind.
3. Delap - I dont think he has a mean bone in his body.
4. Ian - he would be too afraid to show his true face.
5. Boomslick - would he even show up to the fight to defend you?
10. Who are the top 3 GMs you would want to have a beer with?
skrouse - really tough here, there's like 10 I'd want to hang out with so I'm going to answer the question differently than it was asked
Drink: soup, druce, majic
Toke: Odin, jz, chap
Substance free: 20s, tim, Delap
Soup - I mean the two obvious for me are Bankz and Dirt but they're my boys so for the purpose of this I'll exclude them.
1. Trofie - this has been long overdue
2. Ward - I mean at this point I just gotta know for sure
3. AndrewLuck - so I can get him drunk and trade for Luke Maye
Bankz - This is simple and easy for me but I'll answer it two ways...
Soup, Trofie, Dirt. Those guys are so fun to be around, I've chopped it up with them in the past on podcast, chats and two of them in person at bars. Awesome people looking forward to the next time.
Three guys who I would love to, that I haven't been around...
BK, Tim, Fecta.... I would love to sit down and have a beer with these guys because I honestly need to know if they really are assholes in real life or they let my antics on the board just hit them deep. Either way I'm just having fun in shout and love to engage in the banter so ending any hostility that I feel from those three would be cool.
Yawn -
Heebs
Ank
Soup
Sapular -
20s because he seems like he would be just an asshole to everyone and a huge smartass
Ian – because all the Ian’s
BK – to ultimately find out if he is tough or not based on the previous question
IanBoyd - I'm not a drinker and notoriously private so probably I'm not the best person to answer this
Dirt -
Ank - He seems like someone i've never met before. I don't travel often and i think it would be interesting to pick his brain a bit.
Chap - I think we would have alot in common. He seems like a guy that would get high drink beer and probably do something to make me laugh.
Bankz/JHB - I'm Facebook friends with them. I've known them for a long time. I thinking it would be a good time to finally meet them and have a beer together.
Druce - I assume this doesn’t count the ones I’ve already had a drink with: Majic, Sap (not a gm so fuck him) Tim, Heebs
1. Trofie – I’ve long thought we’d be great friends if we met
2. Soup/Bankz – known them for a very long time would be nice to meet and hang out
3. JHB – I think he’d be fun to hang out/shoot the shit with
Hm: I’m not sure theres anyone in the league I wouldn’t want to hang out with honestly. We should do a zoom PH again.
20’s -
ward
soup
ankly
Majic - This is really hard to come up with a list, I would honestly like to meet several GM’s. I have met Tim and Fecta in person, both great guys and awesome hosts.
Here is the best list I could come up with:
1. Skrouse - seems like a good dude and would be fun to grab some beers with.
2. Soup, Trofie and Bankz - I am lumping these 3 in together if for no other reason than this would be a night full of memories.
3. 20’s - always seems like a good dude and would love to shoot the shit over some beers.
6. Let's focus a minute on your specific team. Talk about the league and your team a bit. What has most surprised you? Who stands out, busts? What are your thoughts on your team? For scapular, feel free to talk about any teams that interest you.
