The Stock is Rising - Dirty Gem Status & The Junk Yard Pick and Pull Candidates.
#1. Dontonio Wingfield
Wingfield is another early 2nd round pick that Tim is notorious for upgrading and turning him to an inside specialist. He still has all remaining upgrades left. He was mentored all 3 years and Tim pulled the ol’ Heebs and signed him to an amazing long term deal this off-season. Dontonio may not be an all-star but he will definitely be a solid player for the Sonics giving Tim his next Jason Tatum like player at a really cheap price.
#2. John Williams
This isn’t very surprising since he is a top 5 draft pick but he went last season without any upgrades. He has solid starting grades but just a reminder he is an Okie Special. It will be interesting if his handles get a bump or if he turns into the next Bob Miller. I can see him getting a lot more minutes this season and we will see what happens. He may be an all-star possibly a mentor with the lack of PFs in the league. If he’s a GEM he could really make a splash this season as most improved.
#3. Mo Williams
The Fultz killer may have done the same to Mo. He was a gem and got his inside and strength pumped his rookie season. I’ve very interested in this build and I was stoked when I saw his outside grew naturally enough to get him to A- outside. He is surrounded by studs so he won’t get a lot of shot attempts but we know he has elite level handles. I think after this season and another solid TC outside growth we could see a dynamic PG again in Cleveland.
#4. Phil Jackson
Oh the ups and downs of Phil Jackson. If we can get a GM to upgrade this coach who knows what could happen. I think he already has a solid Jumper so he can seriously be as good as Len Bias when he finally gets upgraded. I’m not sure if Trofie will have the uppies this season but we will wait and see what happens. I think Phil could be a starting caliber wing for an inside style offense if someone can give him a chance. I can’t wait until that day comes because I’ve been eyeing Phil for several years but never could get my hands on him.
#5. Malcolm Huckaby
The two-time champ in Houston will finally receive his upgrades this off-season. I believe he went about +10 in TC throughout his rookie years and will get his opportunity to start alongside some good players in Dallas. He may just be the next Joe Crispin but he does have better grades than what Crispin had before his upgrades. If his handles are in good shape, he could be a solid PG. I don’t think he has the potential to crack the top 5 but he could be good enough to help the Mavs make a run. We will see if this is all smoke when this season is over.
#6 Lewis Jackson
The Next Freeman Williams has been drafted in NY. Obviously depending on TCs we will have to wait and see but I want everyone on watch to see if this guy can be mentored into another All-League SG. Ank is always looking for B+ outside 2nd rounders and he found his guy this season. He is at 6 on this list because we will have to wait a couple more seasons to see how this project turns out. I’m excited to watch the transformation.
#7. Mehmet Okur
I really like Okur because he’s a top 10 Shot Blocker. I don’t like Okur because he has a broken jumper. If and when someone resets him, I think he can be a stud for an outside offense playing back up C/PF. He already has solid rebounding so pumping all the upgrades into his Jumper would be a great move. I know we are getting more and more MLE type D/R bigs in the league but I think Okur may have around 70+ SHO and that’s rare in this league.
#8. DeSagana Diop
Diop is a very interesting prospect. He was an obvious fake sim 1.1 and has been sitting on the shelf with TroyBarnes. If he’s a gem he could possibly become a solid rotation guy for a championship caliber team. He needs some work but nobody has seen his scout. He has decent enough bleals to be upgraded and I’m curious what heebs is going to do with him. He may not be a stud with his bad FT% but with a gem status you can move his FT% up and still get him to a respectable inside scoring attribute. He has potential to be something, He’s on this list because he’s a big question mark for everyone.
#9. Darko Milicic
Alright hear me out..He had 91 Pot with 70 SHO before his first TC. He’s gone +2 in defense in his first 3 TCs. Who knows maybe his last name is really Bol? I think it’s worth a shot buying an on-roster scout and seeing if TC actually helped his shit build and he can be turned into a 3rd big that can give you elite shot blocking numbers. He may just be trash forever but the league can still have hope that Darko can stay on a roster in 6.0. Time will tell if this guy walks away from the game or can hold a job down on a cheap contract.
#10. Ron Carter
Well Well here we are again. Another Barnes Special sits on the Jazz roster putting up some respectable numbers in a small sample size. If he’s a Gem he could possibly be a Ledo type player. He can potentially be a really good rotational SG for someone with the right scout. When I look for potential players to upgrade you always look for one stat that is already good so ou can improve other things about the player. Carter can shoot so Fason can focus on the inside scoring and turn him into a player.
The Junk Yard Sloppy Stones
He has potential to be a player with a reset. Unforteatnly the guy just didn’t improve enough to be a scoring big but has the juice to be re-evaluated into a D/R big. Someone with cap space can send a long term deal for Neff and be a good outside big for someone. I’d love to see GMs who waste upgrades try and change the progression of a player for the league. I know we have rookies and young guys to upgrade but Neff can still be a player in the league if a GM doesn’t have anyone else to upgrade.
A top 5 Okie Special with really nice grades but zero upgrades. I’ve nearly upgraded him a couple years ago but decided on Crispin instead. I think his TO are a bit too high to fill out his build and that’s probably why he’s still sitting on FA without and improvements. It’s an easy LLE extend candidate for someone like me who doesn’t have draft picks moving forward. I can see him finally getting upgraded sooner rather than later. He will need his Jumper imporved and probably a little inside and add a nice d rebounding camp and you got a player better than NewBil.
AB was a strength guy coming out and I actually have his build. He’s improved enough to probably be close to a 95+ inside and 95 strength if someone takes a chance on him. I know the league is full of strong inside scorers but if you need a 3rd big and you want an inside force Burditt is your guy. He’s cheap and won’t be a liablity for you in your rotation. We have several players that can do this but I think a GM who upgrades this cat will be happy to have him. Especially if you can get him on a cheap long term deal.
Javtokas has been sitting on the shelf for awhile in the FA pool. I always go and see if he’s played at all. He has A- Defense and who knows what his scout looks like. If he’s a gem you can possibly have an Eric Montross type player for free. He is probably a long shot but I’m always intrigued with a young guy around 2 bleals with A- defense B inside and not upgraded.
The young B B Scoring SG that can still be mentored this season has a decent shot to be something with some upgrades. If he can be mentored in outside and then get upgraded fully outside who knows what he could be. I think JR Smith maybe comes to mind? I’m always on the look out for another Cliff Anderson and I think Hansen has potential. If I had nobody to upgrade and I needed a wing I might take a flier and get an on-roster scout and just see what I have. I think with the right upgrades and put him in he right position he can be it least an MLE type player maybe more.
