Good morning TMBSL and happy Friday! We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, starting with this round table featuring many of our best GMs and BK.
Enjoy!
1. There has been a lack of content creation in TMBSL. Why do you think literally no one is writing articles or making podcasts anymore?
BK - I write articles when I absolutely have to. Sometimes you can really gear up and trade for a bunch of uppies and upgrade a bunch of people, but there arent a lot of teams that doing something like that would necessarily take them over the top. You saw dirt post a bunch of stuff recently as he needed a ton of money to vault himself into contention. As long as the same cream stays on the top, there won't be much content. We need some of the also-rans (e.g. sap) to actually invest some time and brains into the league and produce some content to get enough bucks to get into contention.
Majic - If I had to make a guess as to the reasons on why I would say its 2 primary reasons:
1) Articles make people a lot of money, so there isn't a big need to do a lot of them. Specifically, RT's earn people a lot of people money and are usually a lot less effort overall. Don't get me wrong, I love a good RT and think its some of the better content we have but it definitely creates inflation.
2) Lack of realistic needs for cash, specifically lack of prospects to upgrade. While I understand the reason eric does it, the draft classes seem to follow a certain pattern and a lot of guys aren't worth upgrading. I don't follow other teams closely enough but rarely do I find a non-lottery player worthy of being upgraded. Sure, we can purchase scouts and assistant coaches but a GM can easily plan accordingly to save up for those. Outside of that we don't really have anything worthwhile to spend money on consistently. I would love to revisit the idea of creating franchise upgrades or open a discussion to other ways we can spend money.
Fason - Less GMs means less content creators I also think people are smarter about who and more patient on when to use upgrades. The articles come in bunches, I’ve had a couple different topics that I meant to do something with but am too lazy. If anybody wants a couple ideas PM me.
20s - Well, we are down almost 1/3 of the teams from a full league, so that takes out a lot of the content right away. Podcasts are definitely way down, maybe because people think they have to do something new? A lot of the podcasts that are being released are specialty topic pods like analyzing all of someone's draft picks. We haven't had many of the pods just talking about the teams and league and analyzing the latest moves and upcoming drafts. Not sure why. I know I haven't been writing a lot of articles because I have been busy with work and other things in real life. Pete has also been busy since he moved it seems like and so there is another previous frequent source of articles that hasn't been posting.
Trofie - I think some of the more creative people have left the league. I enjoyed the podcast a lot and I'd like to see more comeback. As for lack on content I'm not sure. I think the people that supplied a lot of the content haven't had a bunch of reasons for $ via lack of younger players or picks. I know I really only do content when I know I need scout $ or upgrade $. I'd like to see Bk , Dirt , and Tim start pumping out pods
Majic - We have had a lot of RT's as of late which I do not mind. When done correctly a RT can bring a lot of great content from multiple view points. I really liked BK's Hot Take RT as well as Trofie's. Both brought about some good commentary with different viewpoints that usual. Anks Wheel article only got me angry, so I will not pick that one.
Overall, I thought Dirt's Trade Rumor Mill was the most interesting. He did a great job of scouring the league to find trade partners that made sense and offered trades that both would find useful. That's not easy to do and I am sure took him a little bit of time.
As for voting, I don't vote nearly as much as I should but when I get into an article I try to vote fairly. I do tend to forget to vote all together but have tried to improve that. Even if I don't like the article or listen to the podcast I at least try to throw them a vote. It takes time to put these together so I want people to be rewarded.
2. Of the articles and podcasts that have been posted recently, what was the best and which one did you vote on out of pity?
Majic - We have had a lot of RT's as of late which I do not mind. When done correctly a RT can bring a lot of great content from multiple view points. I really liked BK's Hot Take RT as well as Trofie's. Both brought about some good commentary with different viewpoints that usual. Anks Wheel article only got me angry, so I will not pick that one.

Even if I don't like the article or listen to the podcast I at least try to throw them a vote. It takes time to put these together so I want people to be rewarded.
20s - I liked the '2023 Trade Rumor Mill: Dirty Style' where dirt came up with trades that he thought should happen across the league and talked about them. The ones I voted out of pity were the '2BF Podcast Draft Rankings: 20s' and Ank's draft order chart.
Fason - The intro to the most recent best friends podcast was one of the best things I’ve seen in 6.0. I had to skip to the end when they talked about the whole league rather than just 20s’ historical draft picks which is too specific a topic for me. The best pods are shooting the shit about current events in the league. I liked Dirt’s ranking of the SGs and 20s top 25 under 25 since they were easy reads with substance.
Trofie - I don't really ever vote out of pity, but I posted in the thread I didn't and don't enjoy the BK pods of draft pick history. I think his time could be more well served doing a state of the league. I think generally people like to listen to stuff and read articles that might mention their team or players on the team so It misses most the league when you focus on 1 thing. That being said he still put in time and had good dialogue. My favorite article would be Dirts Rumor Mill which apparently I didn't even vote on. I apologize Dirt.
BK - I only vote on RTs out of pity. These are the worst content.
The best stuff is probably something like the random rankings or dirts rumor mill articles. The articles that dirt was doing just ranking like 10 shooting guards and getting 80k when delap gets 80k for doing a rookie ladder all season started rubbing me the wrong way. No shame against him doing them, they are great content, but people should be more responsible with their votes.
3. We've stopped doing the FA Drafts because it seemed like folks were burnt out reading them and were being stingy in their votes.
Fason - While the critiques were extremely mean spirited and unfair, I understood where people were coming from as far readers not caring about the team building and team judging concepts. The drafting of the teams though did provide some decent content since it gave people an idea on how potential FAs were regarded. Next time though the jerks that complained should just vote 69,420 and keep it moving.
We should really bring this article back with an auction style draft rather than traditional snake. That could have some value.
20s - Is this a question? I do feel like those were pretty weak content, though, so I get it. I'm fine not doing them.
BK – Yes.
Majic - Great question, 10 out of 10 would recommend asking it again.
Trofie - These can be hit or miss. Frankly I don't care about a FA draft when the classes suck and I'd rather see a "fantasy draft" and stats compiled to see who won. Please include me. @20's needs to get the drafkings article back up.

5. Lebron is coming into his third year and, while very good, isn't really tipping the scales into the elite category yet. MJ wasn't even drafted with the first pick this year. What is going on with the generational talents that aren't panning out?
BK - I think LBJ is already the best player in the league. MJ sucks because his profile sucked. His profile sucked because eric nerfed it. Thats just how it goes.
Majic - Having lived through the OP Lebron experience of 5.0 I am perfectly happy with where he is at in 6.0. 5.0 Lebron helped carry a team to contention for 15 seasons almost by himself at times, that's no fun. Kyrie is the closest we have had to that but even at his height he couldn't carry a team. As for other legends, I have MJ's scout and I am overly excited about him. I think its fair to see why Barkley and Hakeem were picked before him but I think MJ will be great.
I have said this a couple times recently but I think Eric has struck a nice balance with the top prospects. All of them seem to come in and compete but no one has been too OP. It provides a nice balance and still forces GM's to be good team builders. Maybe others feel differently but I think we are in a good spot. I would like see some better late round players and an overhaul of the gem process.
Trofie - I think Lebron is a top 5 guy regardless of Winshares. I think the volume shooters around him are hurting him. Mj will be very good and I would have taken him If I didn't grab Barkley. I just don't want a wing that starts with that low 3 pt and isn't a high Pot guy( which is crazy) He's a higher steals lower blocks version of Wade. Mj is hard to translate to sim and you'd have to fudge some things if you want him to truly be elite(which we should have done. We did it with Lebron)
Fason - Lebron looks fine to me, he’s elite defensively, he’s top 30 in efficiency and he still has 96 potential. Jordan though looks disappointing and I imagine IanBoyd is rolling in his sim grave. The no threes, high passing/turnovers, only B potential seem like major hurdles for him to reach his value. Hoping I’m wrong and Jordan ends up the SG version of Nique.
20s - I wouldn't say LeBron isn't panning out. Guy is a beast and nearly OP. He still has 96 potential. Jordan looks like he is going to be really good, I think the turnovers and lack of a 3 point shot scared the first couple picks off from him. Overall, not a big deal to me. They both look like they will be studs. As long as they are really good players, that is fine. The best players in real life don't have to be the very best players in sim history.
6. Speaking of hot takes, give me your hottest take in the league right now.
Majic - The wheel has slowly created a league that is less exciting, less innovative and overall boring.
20s - 14 different GMs have won titles in 6.0 and I am not one of them. I suck and this game is stupid. RNG is ruining my life. What is the purpose of life? We're all going to die and we're meaningless in the grand scheme of the ever expanding universe.
Fason - Did you see 20s’ top 25 under 25 article? The league is in a great depression in terms of young talent. The 3021 class has 2 maybe 3 max quality players and this looks like the new normal. 3022 has some solid players not sure anyone deserves to be maxed yet. 3023 is the outlier with there being a handful of guys besides Lebron, Wade and Anthony that are in contention. This past rookie class doesn’t look so hot and cancels out the talent level of 2023. Max-amnesty-repeat is only going to get more absurd.
Trofie - The Cav's 100% do not deserve the team that were handed to them. He stole the best Wing in the league via FA and then got a top 5 wing in a contraction draft which should be a thing. I still like you Sap
BK - The best GM without a title is Trofie. The worst GM with a title is Heebs.
7. TimPig has been announcing minor league hockey games. Let's brainstorm how he could leverage that opportunity to MAKE TMBSL GREAT AGAIN!
20s - Shout-outs is an obvious answer. But we should also run promotional ads during the broadcast so we can get some new GMs in here. I tried promoting the league on that other board that king brought here and they banned me. We need to get some more GMs in here and I'm not sure ank has time for Omegle anymore. Or he doesn't want to have to filter through hundreds of penises to find an interested GM.
Fason - I know we’re low on GMs but do we really want more hockey people? I think 3 is more than plenty. If Tim’s minor league hockey team has a stream/chat then we can support Tim but also invade the chat like with Kina’s stageit show back in the day. The league almost got a couple new GMs from that event.
BK - this as a lapel pin
Majic - Adjust wheel in some way to bring back randomness or standings into the draft order.
Completely redesign the Gem process and create more paths for guys drafted outside the top 10 to be long term contributing players.
Get rid of amnesties completely.
Franchise upgrades.
Trofie - I don't think we will ever get many "New" people the league. Our best shot is to get back the old Gm's we all enjoyed. KC was a great addition by Dirt and he fits in. We need to get back Soup, Bankz, Ward , Skrouse , etc.
Enjoy!
