There has been no material improvements in the temporary pause in the accelerated TMBSL 3001 rookie draft.
For those of you out of the loop, Herb Simon, GM of the Indiana Pacers and better known as Heebs, has agreed to a trade with the Dungeon Master of Westeros, better known as Dirt, involving scouting reports. In accordance with written league rules, the general managers of the Pacers and Clippers sent a private message to the league office notifying them of the trade, but the league office has thus far not sent the scout result by private message.
We reached out to Herb Simon for an update and he had this to share: “You know, at this point, I would accept the scout results by text, email, or even carrier pigeon as long as I get them from the league office before the end of the accelerated draft. If I know our league office, they will comply with the rules and send them by private message though. So if I were a betting man I’d bet that’s how they’ll be sent. I am just not sure what is taking so long. Maybe it is a technological issue. I wish I could help with that, but I am not great with computers. I wonder if they’ve tried rebooting?”
The fiasco has helped educate general managers on the process of trading scouting reports. Although, based on our conversations around the league, not all general managers understand the process yet.
For example, when we reached out to one unnamed eastern conference leading general manager, he had this to say: “[General manager Herb Simon should] make the pick or quit. If you must have scouts sent from [the league office] for whatever reason, post a trade that [the league office] won't veto.” Of course, scout reports are not posted in the completed trade forum. They are sent to the league office notifying them of the trade, at which point the results will be sent by private message.
The exact rule is as follows: “Scouting may not be traded in the Completed Trades forum. Instead, the commissioner must be notified directly by both parties, at which point the scout result will be sent by private message.
The pause in the accelerated draft, which has been lauded by many tenured general managers for its usefulness, is likely to continue until Sunday when the draft officially begins.
As this fact becomes clear, general managers have been forced to be flexible in their plans for Superb Owl Sunday. One general manager’s vacation plans have been impacted. Instead of spending Sunday relaxing with friends at his mountain chalet in the Cascades, he will spend the day on his phone notifying general managers of progress in the draft so they are not skipped. His efforts are equal parts eager helpfulness, “I enjoy it and I prefer to do it well,” and selfish “I don’t look forward to people (Bankz) complaining for months when it doesn’t go his way.”
It is everyone’s hope that this pause is resolved sooner than later.
