Evan Turner became one of the nation's premier combo guards as a junior at Ohio State, racking up points (20.4 per game), assists (6.0), rebounds (9.2), and steals (1.7) while leading Ohio State to a Big Ten Championship and Sweet 16 appearance. He possesses excellent upper body strength and is adept at getting into the lane and finishing through contact. Turner's ability to finish inside with a refined set of moves is terrific is well-developed as he wasn't able to rely on his average athleticism to dominate. The form on his jumper is solid and translated to him hitting about 75% of his free throw attempts in college. Teams drafting him should expect him to act as a sort of second point guard on the floor as he shows excellent handles and vision. While he loves to pass, his creativity causes him to get a bit careless at times which can lead to unnecessary turnovers (4.4 per game as a junior).
Turner's mid-range game is relatively consistent but he hasn't show much of a tendency to let it fly from deep, attempting just 1.5 threes per game during his college career. Scouts don't see him adding much of a three-point shot to his repertoire as he's already very polished attacking the basket. Defensively, his long arms allow him to effectively defend the perimeter and generate a few steals, but he's not very noteworthy otherwise on that end.
He showed marked improvement in each of his three college seasons which has left scouts wondering if there's much room left for growth.
