1. Who do you see taking the title home this year?
Druce - If it's not me, I'd like to see Dirt get off the schneid and get his first in 6.0. I think there are a handful of capable teams that are all about even so having someone get their first would be top priority. Outside of him theres no one else I'd really pull for or anything.
Majic - There ae a number of teams that I could see making a run and winning the title this year. Houston is good again, as are the Raptors. The Grizz get a full season of Bird and I expect his team to be a contender through the playoffs. Amigos and Pacers are right there with the rest, after these teams I think there is a drop off. I am going to bank on Druce's team pulling out a title with a strong core and Bird popping off in the playoffs.
Sapular - I think the Knicks have a real good shot at the title this year. Ask Ank stated Kyrie just keeps doing his thing. It is rather impressive. I also think the Grizz have a REAL shot at it. Last year for them was so odd and how much they under performed. I think Druce is pissed about it and may make a move to right the wrongs of last year.
Timpig -I'll say the Sonics, as improved point guard play should help a ton over the barely competent play from that position we saw last year. The Raptors should continue to contend as they bring back essentially the same squad (Kareem and a bunch of other guys) that's made the last three Finals.
Update: While I was writing this up the Raptors swapped 1.1 for Grant Hill and Jason Kidd, so they're my official pick.
Fason - Raptors feel like the clear favorite. Getting LaSalle was a big deal, add in that Delap kept LaSalle away from the Rockets. Hill and Kidd should help this year but I think Delap made that move for the long haul not this year. I do think the Rockets will come out of the West again. Tim seems like he wants to make some moves for the future, Mavs aren't ready yet, Grizz though are a quiet contender now that they have Bird and some really efficient bigs.
Trofie - I'm going with the Raptors because I believe they have the easiest road to the finals. I think if you swapped the Mavs, Rockets, Sonics, Grizz, or Amigos with the Raptors out East they would also come out on top in that conference.
2. What team is overperforming and is not that good?
Druce - The Pipers are the pretty easy answer here. I'm happy for ba that they've gotten out to such a strong start, but I think we'll see them slide down the standing in the east once all is said and done.
Majic - This is hard to answer as I don't know that any one team sticks out. However, I am not sure the Knicks are as good as their 12-1 record might indicate. Freeman and Kyrie are a powerful scoring duo but there is almost nothing else behind them. If either of them takes a step back or drops in efficiency there may not be anyone to pick up the slack.
Sapular - I think that distinction goes to the Rockets. Ron Carter is having a HOF season and has never done so in the past. I think he is over performing right now and keeping the Rockets a float artificially. While is only playing back up minutes I think the minutes he is taking are valuable and are providing a perception of depth that isn’t really there.
Timpig - The Knicks. Kyrie continues to chug along but the team only really has two competent scorers in him and Freeman Williams, which IanBoyd explicitly demonstrated isn't enough to win you a title. Being in the East likely helps them stay afloat and may even get them a couple hundredths of a frac, but there's no way this team wins a title this year without a big shakeup.
Fason - Pipers somehow are 8 games above .500 without JR Smith starting, Troy Murphy was a nice signing by ba. I'd like to point out that if the season ended today the Stags and Hawks would be in the playoffs, disgraceful East.
Trofie - I think the easy answer would be the Knicks , possibly Amigos. Both teams are good but I don't know if they're that good. The knicks don't have a ton outside of two guys although Williams looks like he's going to be a stud and might already be one.
3. Do you think its time we finally fix the contraction draft or is that not an issue?
Druce - This is something that I frankly just don't care about either way. I very rarely find myself low enough in the standings to be in line with getting a marquee player and I think the teams that stink should benefit from this in some way. I'd be lying if I said I even paid attention to how it works to be honest.
Majic- Ever since we made the rule changes I think its been a lot better of a process. Teams cant really plan to tank in order to draft a good player and the trade rule limits the ability to trade a player. I would have to think on it more but I think we have struck a nice balance with the contract process.
Sapular -I mean I personally don’t see an issue with it because it landed me Oladipo. Now had I not, I may feel differently. In all seriousness I like it. Since the wheel is there to remove and prevent tanking, I think for bottom performing teams when teams do contract, giving them an opportunity to get good players (mind you it is only one) is a good way to balance things out.
Timpig - It's been time for a while. It's hard to tank to really take advantage of the system, so the fact we're at least using standings from two years prior helps, but I don't care for it as a means of player distribution. I'd prefer we just delete them all, but I understand folks get uneasy about star players getting killed off, so we should add them to free agency and let folks bid appropriately.
Fason - In the grand scheme it's not that big of a deal since it doesn't feel like any active GMs who have all the great players are going to quit on a whim. Amnesty issues probably need to be tackled first.
*I reserve the right to change my answer should somebody win a title with a contraction acquisition being their best player.
Trofie - Yes, I still don't why we're stuck with the system we have. Nobody likes it. You shouldn't be rewarded for being bad in the standings. If you're down there its because you sold off your good players and are waiting for your draft position or you're just not paying attention. You can have max room every year with amnesties so the turn around isn't terrible. I lost a player I maxed in FA and then he hits contraction waivers the next season? Stupid.
4. Predict the top 5 of the draft in order. If guessed correctly Bk will give you 5k
Druce - 1. Hakeem - at this point he looks to be a potentially dominant big
2. Chuck - call me crazy but I like the Barkley stats more than MJ. Yes he has a turnover problem, but everything else is there. Boards, efficiency are elite.
3. MJ - I can't see Jordan making it past 3. Could see Thorpe going here if the scout is good, maaaaybe Bowie, but Jordan seems safe enough.
4. Sam Bowie - for some reason I think Bowie's scout will be better than Thorpe. Defense and rebounds look good.
5. Otis Thorpe - Very solid scorer, takes care of the ball. Would be an ideal inside SF, but he's a PF so you'll need a strong rebounding team around him
Majic - 1. Michael Jordan - the GOAT has to go 1.1, would be shocked if he doesn't.
2. Hakeem - he looks to be an all around big with high potential to grow as a scoter.
3. Barkey - he has TO issues but overall looks to be a great inside focused SF.
4. Otis Thorpe - looks to be a scoring machine and provides a good rebounding bump. May not be a strong defender though.
5. Sam Bowie - looks to be a strong rebounder and has good blocking numbers. Invest in his scoring and he could end up being the second best two way big in the class.
Sapular - Hakeem Olajuwon
Charles Barkley
Otis Thorpe
Michael Jordan
Dam Bowie
Timpig - 1. Hakeem Olajuwon - Bucks need help down low and Hakeem is ready-made for sim. A match made in Heaven.
2. Charles Barkley - Ankly is stubborn which means that by picking Barkley, he can keep bitching about Jordan's build and keep touting Freeman Williams
3. Michael Jordan - Another great match as Majic is already trying to clear space on the wings
4. Sam Bowie - Majic keeps hyping Brad Sellers, but he does that with a lot of guys. I suspect he'll give up that charade sooner than later since he has a couple high picks he'll need to pan out.
5. Otis Thorpe - I think Trofie would prefer to find a young SF here, but the class looks weak after Barkley, so he adds another young big and looks to find a taker for Kendrick Perkins.
Fason - 1. Hakeem - Clear 1.1
2. Barkley - Should be an easy 25 & 10 guy at SF
3. Jordan - If Jordan doesn't have A potential he's been butchered...once again
4. Bowie - He'll come in with ready made defense and solid rebounding
5. Carlisle - Wildcard! Those rebounding & p/tsa stats are sexy AF for a PG
Trofie 1. Hakeem looks to be the early leader in the clubhouse. The only person I could see myself drafting above him is Barkley. I can't take a SG.
2. Barkley - I think Ankly goes Barkley here which is a great deal for him
3. Jordan - Majic lucks out here and gets MJ at 3
4. Thorpe - Looks to be the premier scoring big out of the gate that can snag some boards, good deal again for Majic
5. Bowie - More defensive oriented and the Bucks will need that. Would prefer a 3 guy though.
5. Do you think Timothy will be an upgrade over BK as draftmaster? If not should Tim just quit the league?
Druce - Hot take: I don't think BK was bad. I don't think Tim will be bad. All in all I think it's a bit more challenging to know where eric is wanting the profiles to be at skill wise.
Majic- There did seem to be a big disconnect between BK and Eric in regards to making the profiles. If nothing else I think Tim will bring some stability as well as agreement with eric. Overall I think the bickering and disagreement between eric and BK lead to profiles players being alot less valuable. I am excited to get a different perspective creating the profiles.
Sapular - I think Tim will be a much better DM than BK was if only because he wont bitch and moan about it over and over and over. I also think Tim takes a significant amount of pride in building good solid profiles. BK just wanted to be right, Tim wants to get it right. There is a difference.
Timpig - I don't think BK was bad, but he was stubborn and contentious and did dumb things when he was pouting like write out every attribute into a paragraph. If I can't avoid the annual meltdown, then yes, I should quit the league. I expect the first class will have some hiccups but hopefully eric will offer up some feedback so that in future years I can make his life a bit easier.
Fason - As long as Tim can spell the names correctly, it can't get worse. I only read the 94's class profiles and they seemed fine before the edits. I think Tim will be great if he keeps the profiles brief and gives eric the room to do what he wants. Billy tried too hard to think like eric and that is impossible. I also think eric will give Tim muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccchhhhh more leeway.
Trofie- Obviously Tim is more level headed than Bk so I will say yes. I don't think BK was horrible he just got into his own head and was intentionally being obtuse. Obviously we don't know the kind of communication that happened behind the scenes between him and eric, but overall I'd give BK a 7/10
6. If you had to pick 1 sim leaguer to date your brother who would it be? If you don't have a brother just imagine you do.
Druce - I think the easiest part of this is finding someone who fits that lifestyle. Next is the physical profile. Do we want a bear like say Trofie, a meager soft featured but strong fiesty personality like eric or ank? The suave foreigner in Mike? The guy who has no problem housing burritos if you know what I mean in yawn? I think my pick is Mike, so he can get citizenship and an improvement in quality of life.
Majic- This is a really hard question. For the purposes of not disrupting their marriages I will not select Druce or Sap, I like both of their wives. My answer would be Tim as I have met him on several occasions and he seems to be a solid person. Overall level headed, easy to talk with and has a decent job, that's a winner.
Sapular - Well I don’t like my brother so it would be BK. I think they would be perfect for each other. Both love to smoke, now my brother doesn’t have a job so BK would have to support him because while BK has his “things” being dumb is not one of them. As a matter of fact I think BK is very smart, and hopefully he could teach my brother a thing or two.
Timpig -To date my brother? Probably 20s since he seems like the biggest adult here but also seems like a fun guy. Heebs seems like a quality spouse as well but I don't think arguments with him would end well.
Fason - This is a really tough question because there are so many nice guys in the league at the moment but I'd most want my brother to be in a stable safe relationship with a guy that would treat him right. Those pictures of Sap's well manicured lawn make me think he's be the perfect guy. I should mention that my brother would for sure be a top.
Trofie- I'm going to go with Fason. He seems like a nice guy that can be a bit of an asshole at times with a quirky sense of humor. My brother would love you
7.If you had to be trapped in a room with a member of each division who would you choose.
Druce - Atlantic - yawn, so i could pick his brain about his secret government trips
Central - delap, so i could get smarter by asking him questions
Midwest - chaps, so i could learn the physics of ________
Pacific - pete, because i think he'd be the least socially awkward of the 2 gms from this division I haven't met
Majic - Atlantic - 20's. He seems like a nice family man and a smart enough individual to provide help.
Central - Sap - he is one of my closest friends and I would rather be stuck with him than a random GM.
Midwest - Hard to pick between Trofie or Fason, but I will go with Fason. He seems like a very capable person and would be an asset to the team.
Pacific - Druce - again, would rather be stuck with a friend. Plus, druce is an escape room enthusiast.
Sapular - 20s from the Atlantic
Heebs from the Central
Fason from the Midwest
Druce from the Pacific
Timpig - Atlantic - Ankly so that I could beat him up
Central - BA so we could stream sports and gamble
Midwest - Fason so that I could read profile write-ups to him like it was Shakespeare in the park and watch him weep
Pacific - BK so that I could beat him up
Fason - Atlantic - Yawn - I think he'd be incredibly entertaining and would provide great conversation
Central - Heebs - So we could come up with a gameplan to sue the bejesus out of the building owner
Midwest - Chap - I'd close my eyes and imagine I'm there with the Charlie Kelly
Pacific - Tim - I'm sure he could come up with a sweet bodyweight workout to pass the time
Trofie - Atlantic - 20's so that we could discuss the success of the University of Nebraska's womens sports
Central - Heebs - I've been in a lot of leagues with Heebs and I really enjoy his shitty sense of humor
Midwest- Dirt - Like Heebs I feel like i've known Dirt forever, we haven't met yet and that would be a good icebreaker
Pacific - This is probably the toughest division for me. I'm going with Pete. I've already met Pete so I'd think if things went bad with the other 3 I'd at least get along with him.
8. Who was a better mafia player, Bk or Sap
Druce - um? idk i'm bad at mafia so they're both better than me
Majic - I have only ever played mafia 1 time and neither BK nor Sap were in that game, so I truly have no comment. Both seem to get flustered easily, for very different reasons, so it would be a joy to experience them melting down.
Sapular - I think it is funny that I am accused of not being good, yet I have done well each time I have played. I think I am better but we all know that BK thinks he is the BEST player.
Timpig - I don't remember how Sap played. BK was good at mafia until his inevitable meltdown each game. He was such a wildcard that it made it impossible to read into any of his actions. Maybe that's a good thing from one angle but at the same time it made me just want to get him out of the game as soon as possible.
Fason - I'll say Sap, I have never played mafia though.
Trofie- I'm going with Bk. He's such a wildcard in Mafia. You never know what his role actually is. Does it make for a shitty town member sometimes? Yes. But overall it helps the game along.
9. If we started 7.0 tomorrow would you prefer the wheel or a lottery?
Druce - i've cooled on my wheel hatred, so i really don't care all that much. i probably prefer the lottery still though
Majic - Lottery. I am a known "hater" of the wheel and will not rehash alot of my long standing issues with it. Having been in a basically 2 iterations of the league that have stuck with wheel I would welcome a change back to Lottery
Sapular -I hate the wheel but it is what it is. I am team lottery all the way. I know it has been discussed over and over and it is not going to change. I can live with it, but I do not have to like it. I think the wheel is dumb and I don’t like it.
Timpig - Wheel. I was in a lottery league at the end of 4.0 and for a couple slight variations at the beginning of 5.0 and the tanking was such a lame method for building a team. It was always the same thing and that just seems really boring to me.
Fason - I love the concept of the wheel and think it's made trading somewhat like the NFL draft which is great. If the wheel is used in 7.0, I'd hope that we could come up with a way that the strength at the top of classes is more equal between each year. Getting one elite player which seem to always come from top 1-3 picks is a massive deal with mentorship.
Trofie- I"d prefer the lottery. That lotto was always exciting to me. I'd prefer more of a weighted lotto but I think i'm over the wheel. There certainly are benefits to it as you know what pick you're actually trading for but man it was more fun during the lotto days. Tanking is lame but it's part of the game. I remember when we started this thing up Poetic's way of curbing tanking was that if you finished outside of the playoffs or had a sub .500% record for 4 straight years you got fired. Would that work here? No , but you could hale a punishment system in place to help the tank out as well. 3 years out of the playoffs? Do a tier podcast with Bk . 4 years out of the playoffs? Listen to a David Bowie album . Etc
10. Why do you think ankly hasn't started the Scavenger hunt? Will it ever happen?
Druce - I think ank is too busy trying to find himself. No, no it wont.
Majic - What is a scavenger hunt and who is it for?
Sapular - Like my father always told me. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I think he intends to do it. However never will as the motivation just isn’t there. It is a good idea in concept but that is where it ends. I will also say it is a lot of work but no, I do not think it will ever happen.
Timpig - Ankly's preferred method of communication is whining and it's hard for him to be the one on the receiving end of incessant bitching. It's about 4 months overdue at this point, so he may do a scavenger hunt, but it certainly won't be the winter scavenger hunt everyone signed up for.
Fason - Should invite some of the GMs that left to come back in order to participate in the scavenger hunt as their own group in hopes that it would lead to them taking a team. Hurry up Ank!
Trofie- I'm guessing we get one in the Summer. Ankly is probably tired of people shitting on him for his attitude. He hasn't been the same since Heebs hasn't had to keep him accountable.
Druce - If it's not me, I'd like to see Dirt get off the schneid and get his first in 6.0. I think there are a handful of capable teams that are all about even so having someone get their first would be top priority. Outside of him theres no one else I'd really pull for or anything.
