Thorpe is a dependable big man set to enter TMBSL after four very good seasons at Providence, averaging a double-double in his senior year. Thorpe's game is highlighted by his scoring ability, leading the Friars in scoring while shooting a high percentage from the floor. Thorpe's offensive game is heavily inside focused, where he has nice touch to finish around the rim and uses his strength to get good positioning for his post-ups. Unlike the other bigs in this class Thorpe has a pro ready body and from game one won't be pushed around in the post. He doesn't have much of an outside shot; Thorpe was a consistent 65% from the FT line throughout college. He doesn't have range from beyond there, either, so most of his offense will come from the paint and tip-ins.
Thorpe is a decidedly average shot blocker. He will block his fair share, but he isn't a feared rim protector that opponents have to game plan around. He is a solid defender in the post, but lacks the quickness to keep up with wings on the perimeter, which also limits his ability to clean the defensive glass.
Overall, Thorpe is a dependable big who should have a long career making positive contributions to teams, but he lacks the high upside of some of the more tantalizing prospects in this draft class. Before draft workouts, most pundits think he comes off the board somewhere towards the end of the top 10.
