Mike O'Koren is a guy that kind of embodies the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none". He's pretty much been the same player since the day he walked into Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill and will probably continue to be that same steady guy at the next level. He's ready to play and contribute on Day 1 and despite his lack of upside, there's a polished product here already.
On the offensive end of the floor, O'Koren uses his strength and awareness to take advantage of opportunities to score. He has the uncanny ability to separate from his defender from the elbow in to find an open shot. He has passable shot mechanics but don't expect to see him expand his game as he is comfortable mixing it up with much bigger guys in the paint. He loves to catch bigs slacking on their box-outs and sneak in backside to steal offensive rebounds for easy putback opportunities. He's the master of the extra pass and he takes care of the ball. He'll be able to find a home in any offense and adapt to make the team better.
On defense, you'll find a similar story. While he isn't the quickest or most explosive player on that end, he's always in the right spot and can defend at every level of the defense. He's comfortable switching onto bigs and holding up on the block and he can also step out and cover most guards, somehow using his positioning and strength to overcome a big quickness disadvantage. He isn't going to put up gaudy defensive box score stats but those who truly understand team defense will appreciate what he brings to the table as he gives the coach the tools to do a lot of different things.
