The main things scouts rave about with Wild Wild Wes is his potential. A Parade All-American in High School, Wes went to Wisconsin and showed major strides each year in his three years as a letterman before making the jump early to TMBSL and being the youngest member of the draft class (3 weeks younger than fellow 20 year old Mike Gminski).
Wes will arrive at the next level with one of the better shots of this class, making almost 90% of his free throws in his final collegiate season. Those smooth shot mechanics should serve him well as he can now stretch defenses out to the three point line. He showed of his dedication to his craft by adding to his interior scoring arsenal throughout his college career, we saw him come back as a sophomore with a euro step and stop and go move and then added an array of floaters as a junior that helped him improve his field goal percentage by nearly 9% from his freshman to junior seasons. He isn't much of a leaper and his size will work against him at the next level, so he'll have to continue to lean on this craftiness to score in the paint at the next level. The one question mark about him as a point guard at the next level is that while he showed the ability to add to his offensive arsenal throughout his career he never really showed any improvement on creating good looks for his teammates, and that's one thing he'll need to focus on at the next level to be a true point.
Despite his youth, Wes should be able to be at least an average defender at the next level on Day 1 if he stays engaged on that end. He has the strength and quickness to match up with any point guard he's going to face, but he probably won't fare well when switching to larger wings due to his lack of length. Don't expect him to be a factor on the boards as he tends to focus on the transition game once a shot goes up.
