Pre-season - When championships are won.... Or are they? Today, we will take a deep dive into years 3000-3020 to see how championship teams did during their respective pre-season runs.
Due to not every team playing the same amount of pre-season games, this first chart shows every champion, with full win totals and winning %.
To get a true comparison of how championship teams treat their pre-season, we will be looking at overall win percentage across both.
After looking at the above - some key things of note here:
-14 Champions had a better regular season record than pre-season
-Lakers have the best pre-season win% at 91%
-5 Teams had a pre-season win% at LESS than 51% & still went on to win the title
-3013 Lakers took no days off, having the highest pre-season and regular season win%
-3006 Chaps manage to have the lowest championship win %, while also having the lowest pre-season win % the same year. Excellent coaching.
-3020 pre-season stats are unavailable/didnt dig for them
