1. What was the best day 1 signing of FA?
Druce - By default I would say Nique. I don't really love any of the other deals. Kyrie was a no-brainer, same for Ibaka. Frazier should be good for the Blazers. I'm probably wrong, but I'm not sold on Ron Dunlap. Givens could be good for the Hawks, I doubt Battier is unless he gets a reset. Don't love the Bingo Smith deal either.
Fason- Easy answer is Nique because Sap should be able to get a top 5 pick back or at least a couple top 10 picks. I’m a big fan of Frazier with his rebounding. Props to king for only offering Givens a 1 year deal instead of 6, he’s learning.
Dirt -I know he’s 33 years old but Nique is the most important. I already know Sap is trying to trade him. It’s a pretty good free asset and I'm curious who is going to fork over a good pick to snag him up. Sap may hold a very important piece to someone. I think he probably trades him to Druce on a friendly deal but I could be wrong. I think Givens was signed really cheap and could be an underdog for the best pick on day 1.
Delap - Dollar for dollar I love the Jack Givens signing from King in ATL, but he's clearly not the best player to change teams or re-up. I think Nique is the best player to change teams, but I'm not convinced the Cavs have enough to make them a contender or anything like that after their recent sell-offs, so that doesn't do it for me either. I'm gonna go with Walt Frazier, who can really be a game-changing point guard, which Portland has desperately sought for a while (Trey Burke was never that guy.) He weakened a divisional foe and got one of the best younger players in the class to actually test the market, majic wins this round.
Trofie - Nique is the obvious answer but that isn't really "best" just luck. I like the Jake V addition for Ank. I think Givens is nice as well.
2. Worst Day 1 signing of day 1?
Druce -Probably Bingo Smith. The Battier deal is whatever it's 1 year. Smith could even still work out, he's got A shown potential, and pretty good stats. If he bumps up a little that will make the contract worth it, but he could always start to go south. That's a lot of money to tie up into a fringe 2nd star on a contending team.
Fason - Does it really matter with amnesties? To answer the question, without knowing Bingo’s build or current potential, I’ll say him due to his stats being that of a generic SF. It’s hard to see him living up to full IanBoyd max status.
Dirt - Other than Battier which is just awful, I think it’s close but I would probably say Ron Dunlap or Bingo Smith. I’ll probably lean towards Bingo only because there are other wings you can find with similar production at a cheaper price tag. I wouldn’t call this awful because you must send that offer to retain your player. Gun to my head I say Battier but I know that’s not really what the questions is about. Bingo could turn things around still and could be a better player if featured in the correct offense. I think he needs to get stronger for that to happen.
Delap - I don't see the big deal about Ron Dunlap, so probably him. He's an above average player, but isn't elite at scoring, rebounding, or blocking. You can find equal players for the MLE most years. Trofie is banking on him growing naturally I guess?
Trofie- I didn't max Walt partially because I already have Livingtson , but is he really a max guy? Ok shooter, hasn't had to put up volulme. Mid 2's on Turnovers. I know a lot didn't like my Dunlap deal but he shoots the ball well and the bleals are near 3. Anytime you can get a guy like that from a cultured and winning Gm you take that chance all day.
3.If you were TimPig what is the next move after losing 2 Max guys?
Druce -If I'm Tim I'm holding onto D12 and Jefferson. I think it's easier to fit MLE type wings into an inside offense and find a plug and play pg. With those two dominant bigs he'll still be a contender.
Fason - I wouldn’t blame Tim for trying to hold onto Jefferson & Howard to try to continue to compete, but I’d sell. He’s already won a couple championships and putting together a core is much more fun than trying to hold on. Tim’s got 1.2 coming up in 2028. Dirt has a 1.1 he’s willing to trade and I’m sure he’ll make some moves during the year to get the assets to add to that offer. KC has a 1.2 in 2027 that he wants to move for a big. A top 2 pick three straight years is an easy rebuild.
Dirt -I think if I was Tim I would hold on to Dwight as long as possible. The only way I trade him is if I get a ransom type offer like Oladipo. If I was Tim I would sell off Al Jefferson and then attempt to sign FA until my big pick comes around. Tim will do what he always does and sell off really good 2nd round mentored players and build himself back up. It may take a few years but I have faith he will pull a rabbit out of his hat. I think selling off Ali and Jefferson gets him back in the right direction. I’d love to offer something better than a 1.1 and Motley for Howard but it’s all I have and we both know that’s not enough
Delap - I personally don't blow it up until I see what I can manage with my remaining cap and draft assets. Dwight Howard is at worst a Top 4 player in the league right now and they should still be a great team. I think it would be a mistake to make a move until mid-season, just to see what is still possible. At that point, if necessary, I don't move Dwight for less than a 1.1 (and more) and not until an Al Jefferson buyer is also in place. All or nothing.
Trofie- I'd see what is out there. Seems like a decently active market. If the deals aren't there you still have a solid team for many years. See what Sap wants for Nique or trade for Livingston
4. Top 10 power ranking going into the season.
Druce - I think there will be a cluster of teams that are all relatively equal. The Sonics, Raptors, Pacers, Mavs, Grizz, Amigos, Hornets, and Lakers I think are all pretty similar talent wise.
Fason - This was really difficult due to parity.
10. JAZZ, bitch
9. Rockets - They were surprised last year and KC seems aggressive about going for broke
8. Amigos - I do not have anything nice to say about this team other than they should be top 10
7. Grizz - Lost Malone and Ibaka could decline, I think the young wings will pick up the slack and can see Druce making a big trade
6. Mavs - May be a year too soon, they should be one of the top defensive teams and will have one of the top front courts
5. Hornets - Injuries held them back last year
4. Raptors - Defending champs with the MVP, they feel like irl Hakeem’s title winning teams where everyone compliments the star well
3. Lakers - Strong young core and I think Chandler hits double digit win shares this year
2. Knicks - Same plug and chug team that wins 60+ like always
1. Pacers - Heebs has the same exact team as the last 3 years, I think Bird becomes the best wing in the league this year
Dirt -#1. Raptors
#2. Lakers
#3. Knicks
#4. Pacers
#5. Hornets
#6. Amigos
#7. Rockets
#8. Mavericks
#9. Cougars
#10 Sonics
My pick to win it all this season is most defeinatly the Lakers. I think Wade will be better than Lebron for minimum 2 years or so and that’s if LBJ gets his solid TCs. Wade is going to really push the Lakers on top the next couple years. Hopefully Kareem can continue to be the anchor out East. If Ank doesn’t trade LaSalle he may have a shot to make it back to the finals as a last dance type documentary has already started filming.
Delap - 1. Toronto - returning champs with no major changes in the lineup
2. Anaheim - Starting 5 should be nasty, depth needs to improve
3. Los Angeles - If Wade is as good as promised, this team can compete for a title
4. Indiana - Steady hand at the wheel, nothing splashy, still has Bird/Giannis operating at a high and young level
5. Seattle - Dwight is still that good
6. New York - Kyrie is still that good, too
7. Vancouver - Don't love the wings, but the team is deep
8. Houston - If Hough stays healthy this team is great
9. Utah - Young, scrappy, and hungry
10. Dallas - LeBron + assets
Trofie #1 Raptors
#2 Pacers
#3 Jazz
#4 Lakers
#5 Amigos
#6 Grizz
#7 Rockets
#8 Knicks
#9 Mavs
#10 Sonics
5. Next team to make a big competitive jump?
Druce - Pretty easy to say the Mavs here given they just got Lebron and Ike. Also the Lakers adding D. Wade
Fason - East is set at the top. The Mavs feel like the only answer since they weren’t in the playoffs last year. Maybe KC gets his star and wins close to 60.
Dirt - I think the Dallas Mavericks are ready to make the jump after drafting LBJ. I’m hoping 60 upgrades into my players and having Ike/Motley bully downlow give me an oppurtunity for 60 wins this season. I have several players with A true pot so hopefully my team grows in TC and I can have a good season. I don’t expect to make it the WCF but I hope to play spoiler in the near future. It will be interesting to see what the Bucks do when Jordan is drafted but that’s still a couple seasons away.
Delap- Dallas should be the team that has the largest win increase year over year. LeBron is that dude, Anigbogu is a defensive stalwart, and everything else is covered. His weakness at PG is the only major hole I see.
Trofie- This one appears to be the Mavs. Still don't love the PG spot on the roster, but the bigs should be good and Bron will be nuts. Might need a SG as well.
6. Best under the Radar roster going forward?
Druce - I can see the Jazz breaking into that top group pretty easily. I'm not sure they're under the radar per se. Maybe the Bucks? They're very young and I believe have the first pick in the Hakeem/Jordan draft.
Fason - Bucks have a bunch of young interesting players that will probably be traded before their rookie deals expire. Chaps have a few good young wings, but Chap will need to actually swing a trade to make it pay off.
Dirt - I think the Chaps are very under the radar right now. I think adding Melo could really boost this team especially if he can get that teen TC. All he is really missing is a PG and he can find out via FA. I can see him definitely making the playoffs and with the right TC could make a push as a top 2 seed winning the division. Capela Przybilla, Melo, and Ariza is a nice 4 some.
Delap - I feel like Vancouver lives under the radar all the time, even when successful. They don't have that one guy that is a major stud (outside of an old Ibaka)... but Frankie Smokes is on an incredible contract and the rest of the team is well-balanced and work incredibly well together. Ibaka is the only decline candidate on his team and the rest should continue improving for a few more years
Trofie- I'm going with Majic. I didn't love the Frazier signing but it was worth a gamble. I saw the scout of Josh Howard and he actually looks really good. I liked David West as well. I think they can make some noise here soon.
7. Who is the most overrated player in the league.
Druce -I think it's really hard to overrate a player with all the stats we have thanks to eric. So I will go with the collective high outside scoring wings that the Knicks cycle through. They go elsewhere and aren't nearly as good b/c they aren't next to Kyrie.
Fason - Any and all Amigos that we have to read about in shout all the time.
I’ve never understood the Motley hype as far as being one of the best players in the league. He’s solid to good at everything but doesn’t feel like a difference making type of player that should have ever been traded for a 1.1. He’s now 30 and feels like a third or fourth guy on a contender.
Dirt - Most overrated player..hhmmm. This is tough but I think Lebron will be overrated. As of the player currently in the league is probably Al Jefferson after a nasty TC last season. After my RT some thought he was a top 5 Big man but I don’t see that. I’m also not saying he’s over hyped or anything like that because I really can’t think of someone that’s truly over-rated the league raves about. I thought Furgeson was that guy but he’s a good player he had a solid season last year. I guess I'll just say Al Jefferson because he had an unfortunate TC last season and he doesn’t block shots.
Delap - KCP. We all like to bust ank’s balls about the awful trade, because we like to bust them anyway, but KCP is a weak defender and rebounder and just isn’t the engine on that team. Even with him blowing up it is Wagner that stirs the drink in that town and carries the team. If anything Wagner has been forgotten since moving to Charlotte and has had to deal with the ignominy of living in a lesser player’s shadow.
Trofie - Towns- Not a top 5 big and was traded for a 1.1. Terrible.
8. Whom would you said resembles your style of Gming in this league?
Druce -Hard to say. Maybe Fason?
Fason - Well I try to emulate bk but know that I need to step up my complaining. I don’t think I have a style so I can’t say anyone resembles me. I can say I’ve been trying to be patient throughout 6.0 but became bored and frustrated last year so maybe I now resemble Trofie.
Dirt - I don’t think anyone resembles my style but the closest is probably Trofie. He will do a trade just because he thinks it’s a good deal. He will trade for a player just to flip him in 3 sims. I’d say he’s more patient than me but we are both extremely active on the trade market. I haven’t seen him draft a player that is just untouchable. Every player has a price and that’s kind of my moto.
Delap - In terms of who do I think GMs like I do? Not really sure on that. I feel like I’m a bit more reckless in trading than most, but not an out and out gunner like dirt. Maybe trofie is a close analog to my style? I want to model my team more along the style of heebs/20s… lots of homegrown talent, 2nd rounders that pan out, etc… but I’ve really never hit on those types consistently.
Trofie- Probably Dirt because of the trades and constant roster juggling. I'd like to see a little bit of me in Pete though as well
9.Does Odin come back this year?
Druce-No
Fason -Yes, he’ll be back in shout on Friday while Bama is playing their first round game.
Dirt - There is no way he comes back. I offered him up a 1.1 and a 1.5 for Oladipo and told him to take the trade and just chill for a couple seasons and start over. He ignored every message I sent him. I think if he does come back, it will be months but hell, I could very easily be wrong. For the guy who gets Oladipo I will trade you 1.1 for him in a heartbeat, hmu mike jones style.
Delap - I really doubt it. He seems gone gone and he probably wouldn’t be allowed to take the ‘Cats anyway. He’s probably the GM most likely to return, but I would bet it would be at least 2-3 seasons before we see him again in a managing role.
Trofie- Absolutely , but then there will be an aggressive outburst in shout once he realizes eric doesn't let him take back his team.
