This article is intended to explain the major changes since throughout 5.0, at least the ones that are still in existence.
DEPTH CHARTS/POSITION ELIGIBILITY
If a player is listed as a 1st string player he cannon be listed as a 2nd string player, however he can be listed as 3rd string. 2nd string players can also be listed as 3rd and obviously players can be only 3rd.
Changing positions is no longer a thing. All players can play up, for example PGs can play all positions and SGs can play all positions except PG, etc. PF/C can both play PF/C. SFs listed at 6'8" or shorter can play SG. It is not possible to turn a non-pg into a pg.
You may set a DC for preseason.
Please follow the rules for posting the preseason DC and initial regular season DC exactly. There is no penalty for getting something wrong but you do miss out on getting a small currency reward.
REWARDS AND BUCKS
Insert whatever skrouse is naming the currency now that he is running the bank.
Box score payouts are calculated automatically at the end of the season. You are still welcome to post them during the season. Payouts for all awards, ASG appearances, win streaks, etc are not done automatically and must be calculated and posted in your banking thread.
Article payouts are voted on. To do so you must post a value in that article's thread. The payout is the average of all votes, ignoring the highest and lowest value. You may cash these in after 72 hours. There is no cap on how much an article can bring in or how many articles you can redeem each season.
News ticker entries are very short articles that payout

PLAYER IMPROVEMENTS
GMs can redeem up to 40 upgrade points each season at 1000 currency per point. A GM may trade away up to 10 of their upgrade points and trade for any number.
Players can get a total of +30 for their career. Some players may be a "hidden gem" which will allow for an additional +10.
Additionally each season you may use have one player be mentored with is a free +5 that does not count toward player or team caps. Players who have 1-3 years experience who were 2nd round picks or FA signings of 5m or less are eligible to be mentored. Players who win a non-rookie regular season award and have at least one A- or higher grade are eligible to be mentors. A player may only be mentored in an attribute that makes up an A- grade, for example if your 3rd Team All-Leauge guy has an A- inside he can mentor someone in Inside, Strength, or Jumping.
Winning the championship gives an additional 3 upgrade points that can exceed the player career and GM season limit.
No potential upgrades.
Three Point Shot upgrades for PFs are doubled while below 60.
Some attributes have caps, they are listed below.

A player's upgrades may be totally reset for 10,000 currency. This does not count against or reset a GM's yearly cap.
You are able to downgrade a player's attributes rather than upgrade if you so choose.
Upgrades will only be processed on sims 1, 4, 7, and 10.
SCOUTING
Scouting must be purchased before the draft timer starts.
Scouting may not be traded in the Completed Trades forum. Instead, the commissioner must be notified directly by both parties, at which point the scout result will be sent by private message.
tier 1 - 5000 - the attribute breakdown of a given grade (Inside, Outside, etc.) in letter form (A = 81-100, B = 61-80, etc.)
tier 2 - 8000 - all attributes in letter form
tier 3 - 12000 - all attributes exactly
private workout - 10000 - the rank of two (+5000 for each additional participant) players in all attributes
stats - 10000 - the following aggregate per-36 stats from the season run three times test sim - only profile players can use this tier
GMs who purchase a tier of scouting can purchase the next tier of scouting on the same player for only the difference in price. Example: a GM purchases tier 2 on Kevin Durant for 10000. It only costs them 7000 to purchase tier 3. Stats scouting and private workouts are not applicable.
ASSISTANT COACHES
Assistant coach - 5000 (limit 1 per season)
Hired between the beginning of the draft and sim 1, employed from sim 1 until the end of the playoffs.
Multiple teams can hire the same type of assistant coach.
Current options are:
strength and conditioning coach - allows team to run Very Fast pace (otherwise illegal)
defensive coordinator - allows team to Always trap (otherwise illegal)
physiotherapist - reduces any existing injuries by three days at end of sim (# for regular season, round for playoffs)
sports scientist - increases yearly GM upgrade cap by ten (upgrades must still be purchased)
social media consultant - increases box score rewards by 100% (applied to total at end of the year) or 5000 currency, whichever is higher
director of scouting - reduces the cost of up to four rookie scouts by 5000 currency to a minimum of 5000 currency
DRAFT
There is no lotto. We now use the "wheel" to determine draft order. Your creation pick will determine your slot on the wheel. If you want to see what your future picks will be find your current pick on the wheel and simply move clockwise. since we only have 29 teams please skip the slot labeled 30. click for wheel
We now have a 3rd round that is done entirely by list. It is also entirely optional. To make a selection in the 3rd send a list to Eric before the 2nd round concludes. These players will be on the standard 2nd round contract.
CONTRACTION/EXPANSION
In the event that we lose a GM the players on that team will be distributed to the rest of the league via waivers. Waiver order is reverse of the previous year's standings.
When a new GM joins we will have an expansion draft. Each team can protect 5 players, these protections can be traded. If a GM joins after the Sim 8 offseason thread is posted the draft will not take place in the upcoming offseason but instead the one after that.
CONTRACT EXTENSIONS
We have always had the ability to extend MLE, but these extensions can now be used on any player signed to a 1 year deal in FA valued at 5m or less. You can extend for 1-2 years and the value of this is 5m per year. This extension is tradeable.
NEW LINKS
The old rosters, standings, and players pages have all been combined into MEGA ROSTERS which can be found by clicking the "Standings" link in the header. There is also a version of this page with /36 stats that can be found by clicking the "per 36" link next to "Standings".
"Fracs" will contain a spreadsheet with cumulative fractional title rankings. This is not in the header yet but will be eventually.
"Cups" are a few different random awards your team can win each season. The Ring is awarded to the team that wins the league championship. The Shield is awarded to the team with the best regular season record. The Crown is awarded to the team with the highest elo. The Belt is a bit less straightforward. The team who won the previ ous Ring starts the season with the Belt. If a team that has the Belt loses the team that beat them takes the Belt. Whichever team has the Belt after day 120 wins it for that season.
"Win Shares" will take you to a page showing each player's win shares for the current season.
You can now find the Free Agent list with stats instead of grades. This can be found by clicking the "Stats" link next to the "Free Agents" link.
FINES
Do things incorrectly and you will be fined. In fact, this is a good place to note that everything functions rules as written. If a decision requires a judgement call it will not be made, whatever the rules say is what happens.
As far as fines go, the one that is by far the most common is a 1k fine for not setting a proper DC after roster changes.
