Top 10 Power Rankings
1. Sonics- With the addition of Dominique I think they are the clear top team in the league. Two elite Bigs and a key "Glue guy" at Sg. Walt Frazier finally gets the nod at PG for the sonics and early returns appear favorable. They have depth down low and on the wings although the inevitable Wilkins injury heading into the playoffs will test it.
2.Cougars- This team doesn't have the "Star power" of some in the league but it is a complete team. They're averaging over 145 per game and have 10 players averaging double figures which is kind of amazing. The key pickup of Frank Mason III appears to have been huge. Curry is nice but I wonder if they need a good 3rd big to really help in the playoffs. The Wings are nuts though.
3.Pacers- If Heebs made a move for an elite big or pg he would be up with the sonics. Bird appears to be elite but the lack of minutes really hurts is value. Don't love the PG situation but the Hulett sneak through appears to have paid off. Very good team but I have the Cougars and Sonics safely ahead of them.
4.Knicks- The same Ole Knicks. I though they would struggle losing Nene and I'm surprised he didn't get a bigger contract this offseason. Kyrie has found the fountain of youth and the defensive/reb trio at SF/SG looks great. I don't think they have enough to win it again this year.
5.Bullets- I probably have them a little higher than most would but I love the way the team looks. Woods looks like he's going to be a great big in the future years. I love the Caron, OG, Tatum trio on the wings and I think Livingston will find his groove and look more like a Max PG by the end of the year.
6.Raptors- Probably should be top 5. 3 very good bigs including one of the best in the league. They have 2 very good wings in Dumars and Hyatt. Rozier doesn't look elite but he plays way over his grades. They have great depth throughout as well.
7. Amigos - Probably also could be top 5 . Have a tons of Star power but the age of Webster is showing and the lack of a good PG will hurt this team down the stretch. The Bigs are elite and Mason looks like he could be worth a max.
8.Bucks- May be Author Bias but I think this team is still top 10 in the league. The lack of rebounding will end up killing the bucks. They still have Motley and Hough and the emergence of Jr Smith looks promising. Elvin Hayes is ho-hum at PF and Winslow is a very good team player who does it all(is OTB)
9.Chaps- The Chaps are off to a hot start out west. The addition of Capela was huge and Pryzbilla looks better than Mihm. Ariza is a stud that does it all and Najera appears to be like every other white SF that the Chaps have rolled out since our inaugural season. The Pg is really bad. I don't think they keep up the hot start but we will see.
10. Grizz- Lack the star power but play well. Had a solid year last year and they keep going. Frank looks like he's blossoming into a tier 1 pg. Something named Youssou Ndoye is very impressive and Theus is on his way to being a very good wing.
The Rookies - Grading the picks
1. Los Angeles Lakers (from Portland Trail Blazers) - Tyson Chandler C 7'1'' 240 - B+ This is who I wanted if I kept the pick but I couldn't justify a teen with much needed growth at 1.1. The pick looks decent thus far though. He needs a lot of work to be an offensive threat. But at worst he will be a beast on the boards and on defense.
2. Carolina Cougars (from Washington Bullets) - Eddy Curry C 7'0'' 295 - B+ Curry had lower POT but had a much more complete offensive game. Looking at who was selected behind him I feel this was BPA for the Cougars at the time of the pick.
3. Los Angeles Lakers (from Charlotte Hornets) - Zach Randolph PF 6'9' - B- Was a plug and play big that had major defensive holes. Insane inside grades off the bat. With a little help I'm assuming Pete thought he could be another Boozer.
4. Vancouver Grizzlies - Joseph Forte SG 6'4'' 194 - C+ - I don't hate this pick but it seemed like he went a little early than most thought. He had good potential so it's going to be hard to see how good/bad this pick was until further down the line.
5. San Antonio Spurs (from Indiana Pacers) - Pau Gasol PF 7'0'' 250 - C - Pau has a very unique build and this was a true TC gamble. He needs a lot of work so he may be somebody who just rides the bench and is playable in a couple of years.
6. Los Angeles Clippers (from Houston Rockets) - Richard Jefferson SF 6'7'' 233 - B Rjeff won't have a ton of growth but will have a very high Inside grade . Won't ever be useful for an outside oriented team but if his jumpshot keeps getting upgraded he will be a good player for a long time.
7. Washington Bullets (from Carolina Cougars) - Loren Woods C 7'1'' 245 - A I really liked this pick and wanted Woods at 8. TC was very good and Woods might end up being the best Big in this draft when its all said and done which is impressive when you look at the Bigs in this Draft class. It should have been obvious reading Woods Profile (he didn't have a profile)
8. Milwaukee Bucks (from San Antonio Spurs) - Charlie Bell SG 6'3'' 200 C+ I was down to Bell, Arenas, Dalembert , and Kwame for this pick. I liked Bells build and he was a gem. He had 91 potential so I was excited about his future in Milwaukee. He then went -6 in TC on inside and +1 jumpshot. He needs some work.
9. Indiana Pacers (from Cleveland Cavaliers) - Gerald Wallace SF 6'7'' 220 - C+ I hated this scout because he won't ever be an offensive player. He's a perfect Heebs pick though. Great defense and possibly Rebounds down the line.
10. Carolina Cougars (from Utah Jazz) - Gilbert Arenas PG 6'3'' 191 A- I loved this pick as his scout looked great. I didn't want another PG but this looks like a real hit for 20's.
Top 10 players under 25
1.Kareem Abdul-Jabbar- Top big in the league he's the #1 guy
2.Larry Bird - Plays out of position but he has one of the better grade sets out there
3.Al Jefferson - I like him a little more than Howard but you can't go wrong with either.
4.Dwight Howard - A defensive gem who collects boards. I think he ends up getting better offensively ala LaSalle
5.Giannis Antetokounmpo- Doesn't have elite production but he does it all. Jack of all trades
6.Trevor Ariza- Similar to Giannis , doesn't score a ton but the does everything else well.
7. J.R. Smith - Might be having a breakout season we will see. Has elite athleticism but no work ethic.
8.Luther Rackley- Steal of that draft he plays good defense and is very efficient on offense.
9. Darius Miles- Broke out with more playing time last year for the Lakers. Volume guy who will get better.
10.Walt Frazier- Maybe should be on the just missed list, but he looks like a very good Pg
