Are rookies OP?
Do we need to chill out on Mentoring?
Should we get rid of Amnesties all together?
Will I draft LBJ?
These are the 4 controversy questions that need to be discussed in TMBSL 6.0
Are Rookies Too Powerful?
- I think it’s a good question to discuss looking back at the last few #1 overall picks. Should we be having a deeper dive into changing a way rookies can be so impactful so early? Some would say everything is fine and we should keep on rolling but maybe there is a better solution? We’ve had unique cases of players being the best at their positions at the jump, for example Lew Alcindor or take a look back at Kyrie Irving. Dwight Howard is a pheromonal player at a young age with A potential as a teen. Are these things going to catch up with us having only 23 GMs? Are we going to have inflation sooner rather than later? You can also argue there are other drafts that didn’t thrust an All-Pro into the league and that’s a fair point as well.
- Maybe some solutions are a bit simple and would help GMs want to keep several draft picks in one year. Would changing the rookies’ upgrades to 15 Max per year help? You could say it would hurt those 2nd year TCs to get over the 85-jump shot or 60 shot blocking. I think so, but I also think it would slow the progression down of really good rookies and it would take a couple years to really grow into a prime player.
- I think we may have just too many A potential players at the top of the draft. Maybe we should lower starting grades and keep majority of players A potential or keep doing what we are doing. I think the A potential is giving us some unique players in the back end of the draft so maybe we already have the best of both worlds.
- The true test will be the next 5 years after we’ve seen a run of HOF profiles as Larry Bird, Lew Alcinder and Lebron James will come into TMBSL.
Answer: No/Maybe?
Do we need to stop Mentoring?
- I think this is an important topic that most of us don’t care to talk about because we all love to do it. I do think it makes the rich, richer and that I don’t like at all. I think it’s kind of shit that a GM with Kyrie can mentor every year because he is a no question top 3 player at PG. Other GMs that fall short ever year just fall further down into 2nd round picks. I’m of the opinion it should be all or none and I understand if that’s a unpopular opinion.
- After saying all that maybe we should take a look at 2nd round players and see if there is an “abundance” of stout 2nd rounders. I’ve done articles in the past and nothing seems to show that 2nd round players can really carry a roster.
- I think the test will be how many more years of 23 GMs will a trend start once there is 6 1st round players that are not being taken in the 2nd round.
Answer: No
Should we amnesty the amnesties?
- I think this would make the league fantastic. I would love to see the FA classes become more competitive by making all GMs have a strategy in mind when placing bids. You could sign a good big on a 2nd contract without the worry of a big max contract. You could see more 6 year 13 mil contracts or something similar in that vein.
- If the contracts change then the waiver wire would change, and you wouldn’t see good 6th man players going to a playoff team. We can all agree about 20 teams really pay attention and that would change the dynamics of the entire league.
- The concern here is that it changes things and the more a GM can do the more strategy and more things they can do to make their team better. We are in the wheel and if your team has collapsed with bad TCs you do have an option to open your entire piggy bank (haha get it) and give yourself as much cap as possibly moving into the next FA class.
- Without just having a simple question in front of me I think it would be a good idea but after breaking down the fine details of what it would do to the league, the cause and effect, it makes sense to keep this around.
Answer: No
The 4th and final and most important question of them all, Will Dirt draft LBJ in 3 years?
- My first initial thought is absolutely not. He is way too impatient and will try and package the deal for something to get him a ring now. After the past couple seasons, I start to change my mind.
- After declining a couple of really good trades; Kat and 1.2 and Nique I don’t think I see many young players out there that would get his interest up. Something with Myles Turner and 1.2 could be interesting and may temp him but I’m not sure if that would get it done.
- I think if he didn’t have LaSalle and a 1.3 coming up, I do believe he might trade it. The best thing that’s really keeping him locked in is he knows he has assets coming up and is willing to see what comes out that 1.3.
Answer: Yes
