Welcome again to another free agency draft round table. Fason, 20s, Delap, Tim, and I conducted a snake-draft of the prospective free agents heading into the off-season and have constructed teams with 8 players that meet the written rules of TMBSL 6.0 and given feedback on each other's teams.
Heebs
C: Ed Wachter / Reggie Evans / Ed Wachter

PG: Cam Payne / Deron Williams / Cam Payne

1. Justice Winslow
2. Terrance Fergusson
3. Cam Payne
20s: This team is very balanced across the board which is nice, but lacks true star power and punch at the top. The Winslow/Ferguson wing duo is probably the best wing combo, and the rest of the starting lineup is made up of unheralded, but solid, players. I don't think it has the chops to compete with Fason at the #1 spot, but could definitely mix it up with 20s and Tim in the next tier. Overall, my tiers probably go S: Fason A: Heebs/20s/Tim B: delap
Tim: This looks like a really solid defensive team and balanced overall without a really dynamite player to handle the majority of the scoring load. This class only had a couple of those guys, so I like what the Pacers did in getting four guys who can provide balanced scoring throughout the lineup - Wachter, Winslow, Ferguson, and Payne. It's been a really down year for Winslow, so his return to previous form is the key to success. The Pacers or the Jazz are probably my favorites in this year's version of this exercise.
Delap: Typical Heebs, typical Pacers lineup... good defense, balanced scoring. He has one of the younger squads... but I like what I see here. If Winslow can be the lead dog, this could be the best team. I think he should focus inside, not outside, given this lineup... so we'll see what happens. I like Wachter a lot, despite his diminutive stature... I'd like to see him get some touches.
Fason: This is the ultimate boom or bust team since everyone in the starting five is coming off their rookie deal. I am SHOCKED that Heebs prioritized defense. I have no idea what happened to Winslow, as 20s mentioned in shout Winslow may need to be reset to in order to fix the shooting. Ferguson’s grades are sexy as hell and he could become one of the better wings in the league. Payne is a decent young PG, but he could also have already reached his ceiling. I like Wachter’s upside but he won’t be a FA since 20s extended him. I like Aaron White as a 4th big. Vaughn is another guy that has some impressive grades and he could blow up.
Heebs: A little thin at the bigs, but the wings are legit and Deron Williams as a back-up PG is a perfect LLE style signing for a veteran to play meaningful minutes and ride off into the sunset. I missed out on the big names at the top of the draft, but was able to build a balanced team that I'm pretty happy with. Not the shot blocking dominance of years past, but honestly this class is a little weak outside of a couple of big names.

C: Satnam Singh / Jahlil Okafor / Satnam Singh
PF: Joel Embiid / Jahlil Okafor / Joel Embiid
SF: Reggie Bullock / Stanley Johnson / Reggie Bullock

2. Reggie Bullock
3. D'Angelo Russell

20s: I am not the biggest fan of this team. Embiid is a very good big man and a nice centerpiece, but I don't love any of the pieces outside of him. Russell could have some potential if he naturally grows his handling, but I view this exercise as more of building the best team for right now and not what they might be a few years down the line. Bullock is a solid young wing who should be able to pitch in some efficient scoring. I'm pretty sure ankly was able to land Juan Dixon as a signing after FA. Okafor can score so that will help. Team isn't bad, it just lacks much that truly impresses me or draws me in.
Heebs: I almost took Embiid first but opted for youth and potential over a player on the downswing of his career. Russell has been on the second unit in Anaheim and I'm excited to see what he does with starters minutes. He could be this year's Harry Hough if a GM believes in him and gives him a max. Other than that, I'm not sold on this team. I think Tim got a bad spot to pick in and was a little hamstrung on building a great FA team.
Tim: This team follows the model of the Knicks before they fell apart this season, utilizing Embiid as a scorer and defender in an outside offense. This team's success would depend a lot of their first pick, D'Angelo Russell, capably stepping into a starting role, which he hasn't done for long periods of time in Anaheim. I'm a big fan of Reggie Bullock and his ability to play SF or SG, but there wasn't a great option to start at SF in the later rounds, so he stays at SF and Dixon, who I'm not the biggest fan of, plays SG. Stanley couldn't start at SF because then you have Juan backing up there, and I hate that. To Dixon's credit, he's a decent rebounder at SG, which is one of this team's bigger weaknesses and the reason that Singh is starting over Okafor.
Fason: *Please note that Reggie Bullock will not be a FA and he wasn’t FA eligible at the time of the draft as Trofie already extended him. Tim’s team should 100% be disqualified from any consideration for best draft. I’m only commenting on this team out of respect for Heebs’ article.
Embiid was the right pick at 1.5, he’s still one of the best bigs in the league. I’m not really sure what to make of Russell since he hasn’t gotten starter’s minutes ever for a full season. This year is the first time he’s had a good field goal percentage, max Russell at your own risk. I didn’t really like the Okafor pick since he’s a one trick pony. Tim just can’t quit Stanley Johnson who doesn’t really excel in any area. Dixon has finally lived up to his potential to score in an outside offense and was a great pick for the 6th round. I had no idea Canaan and Singh were still in the league.
Delap: I only like Embiid of these players and the team construction just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't see that they can really compete with any of the other teams in the exercise. I like Juan Dixon though... and it was a solid pick later in the process. I don't trust D'Lo to do anything worthwhile, so that probably skews him down in my mind.
20s
C: Jusuf Nurkic / Benoit Benjamin / Jusuf Nurkic
PF: Montrezl Harrell / Benoit Benjamin / Montrezl Harrell
SF: Juan Pablo Vaulet / Josh Hart / Juan Pablo Vaulet

Heebs: I am high on Juanny Baby and wish he would have fallen to me. Nurkic is sneaky good value. I think that is the theme of 20s team this year - he kept getting good players that should have been drafted earlier. I don't know that he drafted with team construction in mind, which is actually a great way to draft a FA team. We should be trying to give the league a relative idea of a player's value by when they are selected and not drafting for team construction. So kudos to Mr. 20s.
Delap: The only team really well-suited to outside, 20s grabbed 3+ players (though I'm iffy on Valuet) for the scoring positions and landed Nurkic as his lone inside threat. I really like Nurk, so shoving him to a 4th scorer role seems a bit strange, but what are ya gonna do? He's gonna score, but I think this team gets eaten alive on defense, as I don't really value any of his players as strong defenders.
Fason: Originally I was surprised that 20s went with NGW over Winslow and KAT with his first pick. Then I looked at Winslow’s shooting percentages and figured he didn’t want to build around KAT who he has, I get it. Beachum and Juan Pablo are both wings that could thrive as scoring options for new teams. Nurkic in round 4 was one of the best picks of the draft. I’m not really a fan of the Harrell type of bigs, but Benjamin offsets some of the lack of defense and rebounding. Hanlan has good looking grades and could be a steal for a team that offers something above the MLE.
20s: I feel good about my team, but I am probably biased. I went with NWG at 1.2 over KAT because I didn't want to build the same team I have in the league right now. His turnovers are a tick higher than I would like, but he is elite otherwise. Nice building block and with my 2nd and 3rd picks I went with young wings who are very solid across the board. I really like both of the young wings and I think my team either has the best or 2nd best wing duo (after Heebs). By the time I was selecting bigs (4th & 5th round), there weren't any guys who don't have flaws left so I decided to go with guys who could score very efficiently giving me a starting lineup where everyone can score and score well. I think my offense should be extremely strong which is probably going to be necessary since this team won't be great on the glass and likely just mediocre defensively.
Tim: This team has a good inside/outside combination of scoring, so I'd be curious to see if they stuck with an outside focus all season or are constantly tinkering. Defense and rebounding are pretty big concerns as none of Nurkic, Harrell, or Vaulet have really shown much in either of those departments and they'd likely be counted on more at those positions. I like Williams-Goss and Nurkic a lot, but the way the rest of the team fits together is questionable to me.
Fason
C: Myles Turner / Antonio Davis / Myles Turner
PF: Christian Wood / Antonio Davis / Myles Turner
SF: Mike Dunleavy / Jamal Mashburn / Mike Dunleavy

PG: Tyus Jones / Vasilije Micic / Tyus Jones

Delap: Turner was the clear pick at #1 and he surrounded him with solid talent. He has additional scoring punch from Blossomgame that should lead to a more balanced attack than others. Not in love with his PGs... but like me, he waited a bit and there really aren't any tantalizing PGs to be had in this exercise this year.
Tim: Turner is the gem of the class, while Blossomgame and Tyus Jones are both really solid pieces as well. I think they're going the balanced route to accommodate Dunleavy and Jones, but I think they'd be better off going inside and highlighting Turner and Blossomgame. Jones has proven he can be effective in the Bobcats' inside offense, and then I'd slide Mashburn in to start at SF, though that may create depth issues since Dunleavy can't play backup SG. Wood and/or Davis provide some really nice defensive help at the other big spot.
Heebs: What is not to love about this team. Turner is outstanding. Jones is very good and Dunleavy is a pick I like, too. Overall I think this is the best team.
20s: I think this is a very strong team, lead by the combo of Myles Turner and Tyus Jones. I thought Jones went later than I would have expected so that was a nice pickup for fason. Dunleavy and Blossomgame are solid wings and Wood can block some shots which is somewhat rare in this FA class. This team is really looking good and is my #1 team overall.
Fason: Turner was the no brainer first pick. Tyus Jones (finals MVP, no big deal) is a winner and good second tier PG. I’m kind of meh on Blossomgame since he’s likely already peaked but he’s still pretty good (I would NOT max him). Dunleavy is a solid SF that felt like the best option at the time. Wood was the starter I felt the worst about picking, but I remember him starting with A potential so he may have room to improve. Bench players are all day 4-5 signings for the the MLE/LLE.
Delap
C: Karl-Anthony Towns / Clint Capela / Karl-Anthony Towns
PF: Jabari Parker / Clint Capela / Jabari Parker
SF: Detlef Schrempf / Danny Granger / Detlef Schrempf

Heebs: KAT and Parker are a great big combo. X-man is the glue guy and Granger is the old guy from the Y just making buckets off the bench. I love this team and the way it is constructed.
Tim: Towns seems best in an outside offense, but you can't run outside with Schrempf, McDaniel, and Rozier in the starting lineup. I'm sure Towns would still be perfectly solid in an inside offense, and that'd highlight Parker, but that's only two guys of the starting five who have proven they can put up points in bunches. Granger is the backup wing, but he actually can't back up at SG, so this team would have some depth issues as Schrempf can't back up SF either. Granger isn't the player he was 3-4 years ago, so I'm not sure where any additional scoring comes from past the bigs.
Fason: I think Delap did the best job of picking a team that fit a particular style of play. The inside combo of KAT/Parker is the strongest of all the teams. McDaniel is a good inside wing with his rebounding. Schrempf was the only pick of Delap’s that I did not like since Schrempf doesn’t really thrive in any one area. Capela is the best 3rd big in the group and fits this team well. Delap waited on addressing PG and think he did as well as he could for an inside team with Rozier and Buycks who are serviceable.
20s: I don't really like this team much at all. I feel like he focused way too much on getting guys who fit the inside offense archetype and ended up with worse players as a result. KAT and Parker is a nice duo down low, but the rest of the guys just strike me as guys who were picked out when looking solely for inside offense players and they seem more like replacement level players. It also has an illegal DC!
Delap: I just now realized that Danny Granger is 6'9"... so my bad on that. After that mea culpa... I think my team competes well with Fason's for the top spot. KAT/Parker are a dynamic duo that should put a lot of pressure on the bigs on other teams on at least one end of the court. A plus-sized wing contingent and competent (not great) PGs round out what should be the most well-balanced and deep team in the field.
