Just FYI, the Magic never made an inquiry or offer for Theo. It qcould've been a mistake but to be fair, when I discussed his value with Soup his PS TO #'s were at 2.8 p/36, 1.8 p/36 is a much different story. Another big diff between the Mavs and I is that I need a big not a pg, Cota's a rookie and the 3rd best player on my squad.

Theos stat grade told a different story though. 2 minutes of research and you could've had the best pg in the league too!

But why would I spend my trade chips for a slight PG upgrade when I have a big hole in the front court?

FWIW the absentee GM rule we currently follow is that someone just has to make a single move of any kind during the sim season/offseason. That could be setting a DC, sending one day of FA bids, making a draft pick.

Now that we have a waiting list we might want to change it to be more rigorous, and I'm sure ya'll can guess the process for changing that

One last point, I hear ya and I am trying to make a move, just sticking to my gut which tells me not to sell all my draft capital for a rental. One or two good seasons won't be enough. I've two solid players in Cota and Wrenn, if I cant win now maybe I can in 4-5 seasons.

also a few points:

- you seem to lump all 5.0 GMs together in all things... we fought all the time and are not a homogeneous blob
- I believe I defended soup's tactic of not drafting til post-season and said it was his prerogative. Everyone can do what they want in that scenario.
- RE: the scenario if you draft on Sim 8 and then want to trade before the deadline, the draft pick cannot be used in that type of transaction because they are on your roster for the next year (3001 for example) not the current year (3000)... so you have their rights, but they are not tradeable in the current season.

fwiw i've never tested creation resignings

in 4.0 we had a lot but apparently nobody liked them

given both of these data points i would guess the players people want to offer resigns won't, but who can fathom the heavyreign mind

we started 5.0 with a "full" league but just like every other creation there were a bunch that were never really in it
after the end of 4.0 with a bunch of "commish" teams we instead went with letting a bunch of GMs run two teams
about ten seasons in we had a big exodus that left us with 12 GMs. the second team system was unworkable (and never that great anyway) so we went with robot teams
-the plan was for a human conference and an all-robot conference, robots designed to go .500
-but with only 12 GMs we needed robot teams there too, and they were designed to go .000
(but it also turned out that heavyreign's edit team >> division thing only changes standings and not schedules, so we needed a big realign later, but that's another story)
(during this time we also introduce minor league teams which went through a bunch of permutations over thirty some odd seasons, and that's also another story)
okay so we experiment with unweighted lotto and weighted lotto and the GM # doesn't really change
about ten seasons after the big contraction we go wheel
between further contraction and expansion we eventually get up to 18 GMs
and then towards the end of 5.0 we lose a couple and a couple get disinterested

as far as who has such-and-such grades, stay tuned for training camp next year
we have a custom htm that puts every player in a table sortable by all grades, and shows changes
and another custom htm in the same style that only has drafted players

as far as the draft goes, the # of GMs i don't think is material to pre-playoffs drafting
the big thing that i think would change is the # of days we set aside for the draft
between pre-playoffs drafting and actually starting the timer we got it down to one day
it's definitely plausible that goes out to two days
i don't think three days will be reasonable, we'll lean harder on lists in that case
but we'll see how it goes

i can't explain a priori how the "but i would want to wait for resignings" was never an issue in 5.0, and i really mean never
it certainly seems like it would have come up, but it just didn't
