Welcome to the Art Laboe Connection where we take your calls and play your dedications. Tonight, we focus on TMB Sim League basketball and their GMs. Pull up a seat, fill up that drink, turn that radio up and let's listen to the classic rock oldies of the 60s, 70s and 80s.
This first song goes out to two GMs that has the league asking just one question...Who are you BA and Boomslick?
This first song goes out to two GMs that has the league asking just one question...Who are you BA and Boomslick?
The Who – Who Are You
Our next dedication goes out to Ankyl and the New York Knicks. There's a lot wrong with that roster, but one thing is for sure. Bojan Dubljevic is a star.
David Bowie – Starman
Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello? Is there anybody in there? This next dedication goes out to Tyler who has undoubtedly heard this question may times in his life. His time spent in TMBSL can be best described by this Pink Floyd classic.
Pink Floyd – Comfortably Numb
Not many would have projected how well the Phoenix Suns have started their 3000 campaign. Credit goes to GM AndrewLuck and their superstar SF Luke Maye who together are showing things are rising in Phoenix.
The Animals – House Of The Rising Sun
Whether it's in mafia, in shout or tearing down a roster that looked the part in preseason. BK's 5.0 motto has seemed to carry over into 6.0.
Talking Heads – Burning Down the House
Our next dedication goes to a GM who has been atop the league for so long that it shocks you to see him taking a different approach. One thing is for sure…before too long, Timpig will be back on his throne.
Foghat – Slow Ride
Confused and disoriented, GM Irush seems way in over his head at this point. He needs someone to take him under their wing and do this Peter Frampton hit.
Peter Frampton – Show Me The Way
Our next dedication come from caller Soup from Ft. Worth, Texas. He says, “He wants to send his love to his spicy little meatball. He loves your passion and hopes you never change.”
No matter if it’s casino, shout or a Thursday, Bankz always brings the fire. Even when he’s wrong.
Foreigner – Hot Blooded
Chap was born into the league a Ramblin’ Man and nothing has changed since. I still only understand about ½ the words he says or types.
The Allman Brothers Band – Ramblin’ Man
Yawn and the Bullets went out and traded 1.1 and more to land superstar wing Hank Gathers. Paired up with Center Lloyd Sharrar, this is just what the team needed to make them a contender.
The Cars – Just What I Needed
While there may be teams as good or slightly better, no team has put his mark on his division faster than Soup, GM of the Mavericks.
Ted Nugent – Stranglehold
Early on, Odin and the Bobcats were all the talk as the favorites to win the sim league championship. It seems like as the season progressed those talks dampened. With Estes, Blackmon and Mitchell leading the team, this is more than just a feeling when it comes to championship expectations.
Boston – More Than A Feeling
Heebs and the Indiana Pacers are currently sitting at 5th seed in the Eastern Conference at 16-8. Are they legit title contenders? Not according to this Aerosmith classic.
Aerosmith – Dream On
The Orlando Magic are sitting atop of the Eastern Conference with the best record in sim league by win percentage. Skrouse is Aladdin and he has himself a genie in superstar Doug Wrenn.
Steppenwolf – Magic Carpet Ride
This has been the number one requested song of the day and it goes out to GM Fecta. It’s time to fucking go.
Pink Floyd – Time
TroyBarnes and the once proud franchise, the Chicago Stags, sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. The view from the bottom there’s only one thing that’s certain.
AC/DC – It’s a Long Way to the Top
One of the more decorated GMs of 5.0 has taken the slow burn approach to 6.0. One of the mainstays since the early years of 1.0, Ward has one message to send to the league.
BTO – You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet
Robot by day. Well…robot by night. This song is dedicated to the commissioner Eric. Thank you for all the hard, long, thankless time that you put into the league.
Styx – Mr. Roboto
It’s as if this next song was a proverb written 30 years ago to foreshadow the coming of Dirt to sim league. Builds an immediate contender and starts to sell off within days of each other. You never know what you’re going to get with Dirt.
AC/DC – Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Delap and the Toronto Raptors currently atop of the Central Division tied with rival Washington Bullets. PG Sergei Belov appears to be the real deal, but outside of that it’s unsure who that 2nd piece will be that is needed to compete in today’s sim league climate. Is there another trade in the future for the Raptors?
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze
JHB and the Hawks are sitting at a respectable 15-8 in what is the meatgrinder known as the Eastern Conference. As optimistic as his record seems, he’s not fooling anyone about his title chances.
Def Leppard – Foolin’
Not much is known about Mike except that he lives far away in Argentina. The same could be said about his sim league team. They are far away from being competitive in this league.
Led Zeppelin – Over The Hills and Far Away
This dedication appears to be rather satire, as there is nothing magic about Majic, his throwing arm or the Portland Trailblazers.
Heart – Magic Man
Pointyegg seems like a good enough dude and stays just active enough not to be on any ones radar, but at this point he’s just another brick in this sim league wall.
Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall
IanBoyd and the Minnesota Timberwolves started out the season slowly leading to the trading of his namesake Ian Vouyoukas. No one has looked at the Timberwolves roster since, but according to Ian in shout, the Timberwolves team is actually playing better and is even in playoff contention.
Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’
Duc and the Miami Heat are about as average as teams get in sim league. On a personal note he is newly engaged. Here’s to the happy couple.
Billy Idol – White Wedding
The Milwaukee Bucks and their 3000 campaign was over almost just as quickly as it started. Sitting near the bottom of the standings it’s time for Trofie to turn the page to next season.
Bob Seger – Turn the Page
One of the more beloved GMs of all times did what no one ever thought he would do. 20s is back although the team isn’t right where he wants it just yet, his contributions to both shout and board have been felt.
Thin Lizzy – The Boys Are Back in Town
Druce had arguably the best creation draft of any GM and it has come to fruition as the frontrunner of the 3000 sim league. It’s only a matter of time before the Grizzlies are hanging their banner in the rafters as the 3000 sim league champion. I hope this is in no way premature and in no way jinxes your season. Grats JHB.
Queen – We Are The Champions
Thank you for listening to the Art Laboe Connection, the TMBSL Edition. I hope you join us next weekend as we pull it back a little and settle into the smooth sounds of Motown.
