Duke
Grant Hill came into the Duke program with unlimited potential and nleft it as its best all-around player ever. As a frosh, he battled injury problems to become Duke's highest scoring frosh (11 ppg) since the Dawkins/Alarie days. As a sophomore, he became an unstoppable weapon in transition and even stepped in at point guard when Bobby Hurley was injured. As a junior, he became the leading scorer and the team's best defender. And as a senior, he proved to be the most versatile player in the country, leading a young team to great heights.
As for his skills, they seem ready-made for the NBA. Taking over games offensively, he has a good set of inside moves that allow him to score at the rim with ease. His jumpshot might be his weakest point -- with only a 72% shooting percentage at Duke over 4 years. A complete lack of three point shooting (and for that matter three point shots) could make it easy for pro defenses to game plan against him but so far it hasn't slowed him down. Plays extremely quickly, weaving in and out of defenders to get to the rim. His biggest impact will come on defense, where he is known for making players on the perimeter disappear, though only generating a good amount of steals and blocks in the process. His rebounding (o/d) is excellent and is more impressive because he uses his excellent positioning instead of raw size/athleticism. Will fill up the stat sheet with assists too, but will generate more than his share of turnovers in the process. Strong, with decent hops. Should be able to improve at the next level.
