Top 10 Power Rankings heading into the season
1.Amigos- Won the title last year. I initially had the Lakers #1 but the more I look at it I think Bk has the best team. Turner had an amazing TC and Webster is till Webster. Does BK pivot on Goss or go with Russell? His upgrades into Mason will be crucial to nail down another starter on the Wing. I don't love his other Bigs. Could ship out Russell who will require a max for future picks or another Wing.
2.Lakers-Still have the best NBA Jam team in the league. Have reliable depth at the wing position, a game manager at PG. They need Mihm or Bam to take the next step to Win a title. Bam has the grades and Mihm was just selected #1 overall in shitdraft . This could be JBC's last ride.
3.Cougars- I have them #1 out east and in the upper echelon of teams in the league. NVE and Gooden had shit Tc's but I'm assuming NVE goes to Germany. Ferguson looks like a stud and they have 4 bigs on the roster that can play defense and are well above average with regards to efficiency. Miles likely won't have a huge roll this early. OG puts up gaudy defensive #'s but he turns it over just as much. I don't know if they can score like they will need to.
4.Bobcats- They have the 3 headed monster down low. Super efficient bigs. They won't win on the defensive end but they will board. They have more than enough scorers that start to make Lynch a Reb only SF. They need Tyus to stay the course and hopefully he improves on his Pre-season
5.Knicks- Still have the best player in sim. They lost Ibaka and haven't filled that void yet but Ank is currently trying to acquire a superstar to fill it. They need Butler to continue to play like he did in Pre-season. Butler has been an afterthought for the Knicks and certainly not the player they thought he would be.
6.Pipers- Could easily jump into the top 5. I didn't love the price he paid for Blossom , but he fits the team mold perfectly. He's got two dominant wings that will score inside, a top 3 PG and some good Bigs down low. This team lacks depth and will likely get murdered on the boards so they need to get better in that department.
7.Jazz- After a disappointing exit in the playoffs the Fason is rolling the same team outside of the additions of known pieces of shit Karl Malone and Charles Oakley. I think Harrington probably starts at PG. Beasley and Worthy seem like overkill. They likely win the division again.
8.Pacers- They added Ibaka down low and signed Kawhi to a long term deal. I'm not sure what he's going to on the wing as none of them will score efficiently. Giannis just didn't take the step he needed to this offseason, and Jackson still shoots like shit. . He's got some great bigs and will dominate most games on the boards. He's going to have to win with defense. Bagley looks like a bargain signing after he gets his +30. I don't see them sliding lower than 8 and if he makes a trade for a stud I could see this team winning the East.
9.Blazers- Projections have him as the 8th seed out West but I don't see it. This will be an over bet for me in the Casino(AGAIN). He added Motley who will get a +5 via Mentor. He still has Webber. Winslow didn't score efficiently this PS and that hurts. Dipo looks good and Burke seems average. They do everything well but nothing great.
10. Suns- This was going to be the Suns or Grizz. I took the Suns because of the Wings. Tatum looked great , and JPV is a great SF although he had an underwhelming PS. Bogut is still holding it down at C and they retained Cooper. I don't think they can get much higher than 10th on a power ranking but they are a steady team that will make the playoffs
The Rookies - Grading the picks
I realize they haven't gotten upgrades yet
1. Chris Mihm C- , This was kind of a headscratcher for me. You knew he didn't have a ton of room to grow. So best chance he turns into a shittier version of Boozer. He already has a good Jumpshot so you don't have to upgrade that. He might end up being a guy that plays above his grades
2. Darius Miles C , We didn't get to see him in preseason because 20's is selfish. He didn't grow grade wise in TC which isn't a great sign but he's young and can turn that around.
3. Kenyon Martin C- , I didn't see this scout , but his Preseason suggests he's a no shoot big? Tough to draft that at #3 when it appears he's an elite shotblocker at this point. Kmart got a shit build, and that sucks
4. Stromile Swift C- , The first of dirts trio of guys, Swift will need a boost in his jumpshot. But where do you go from there? He needs Inside , rebounding , and Shot blocking. Only so many spots to put the points. Dirt may have jumped the Gun on this draft trying to compete to early
5. Mike Miller A- , I know dirt said he would have taken Miller #1 if he had the pick. I'm guessing he camps the 3's and maxes jumper , and then goes 3's. Miller looks like he will be a complete SF. May have some turnover issues with more volume.
6. Jamal Crawford C- , Doesn't look like a PG that should go this early but none do. Has a low inside , but I'm told that doesn't matter and he could get the 30+ into his 3's to make him Viable. His size makes him unique
7. Desmond Mason C+ , I love the grades but production sucked in Preseason . He is near the cap on him Jumper which helps. I'm assuming he can get some Inside points as most are jumping. Will be interesting to see where Bk puts them.
8. Eduardo Najera D+ , Najera is a PF lets get that straight. Should have never been made a SF. And judging by his PS I'm guessing chap wishes he was never made at all. He destined to be a D/Reb Wing.
9. Quentin Richardson C+, Qrich looks like a stud defensively and on the boards at SG. He didn't shoot a single 3 so you have to punt those (makes sense). I'm guessing you throw 10 into jumpshot and the rest into inside. I doubt he will ever be an elite talent because of the way he was built.
10. Ime Udoka D- , I'm not sure why he was drafted where he was. He has high handles and thats about it. Nothing suggested he would be a good or even decent player.
Top 10 players under 25
1. Myles Turner- The Easy #1, we will see an MVP out of him this year.
2. Karl-Anthony Towns- unconventional big, but he does everything well.
3 .Markelle Fultz- Hasn't put it all together yet, hoping he find that extra level this year
4.Jonathon Motley- Can do it all , not a hole in his game.
5.Terrance Ferguson- Upside play here. Will have elite scoring grades and a bigger role in the offense in Carolina
6.John Beckman- A top 3 PG. Not Elite , Elite imo but very good
7.Joe Lapchick- Efficient, plays good defense. Good player Good guy
8.Jayson Tatum- If he can play like he did in PS he will be a top wing.
9.Ike Anigbogu- Keeps improving. Has some of the best looking grades in the league
10.Thomas Bryant - Defensive monster, will be great for the Pacers
Just missed.
