Elvin Hayes PF 6-9 235 22 Houston Hayes is a scorer first and foremost. Known for aggressively attacking the basket on the inside, he reguarly makes defenders look like fools in the post. His impressive strength, and array of post moves made him an absolute force on the college level. Additionally, he possessed a solid jumpshot for a big man, able to knock it down out to 16 feet quite well. However, being 'known' for his scoring doesn't mean he was a slouch on the glass: when matched up with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -- Hayes came away with the Win. The final score read: Houston 71, UCLA 69. Hayes outplayed Alcindor (although many argue that Alcindor was sufferiing from an eye injury), knocking down 39 points to Alcindor’s 15 and grabbing 15 rebounds to Alcindor’s 12. While his position doesn't call for it, Hayes only has a moderate amount of perimeter skills and lacks the ability to handle the ball when far from the basket.
Defensively, Hayes was fierce in the post on his man, and unusually strong on the perimeter. His instincts allow him to corral steals, but his lack of explosiveness and size makes it difficult for him to block shots. While Hayes seems destined to have a long career in TMBSL, some scouts question whether he will grow much.
