Wes Unseld
C
6-7
245 22 Louisville
If basketballs were tiny white marbles, then Wes would be a hungry hungry hippo. TMBSL has yet to see a player that comes into the league rebounding this well. In an alternate reality, his rookie season in the big leagues he would finish 2nd in rebounding only to Wilt Chamberlain. However, Wes can contribute in other ways than rebounding. He sets solid picks, and can whip outlet passes to trigger fast breaks. He constantly kept opposing centers off guard with his tremendous strength to prevent them from ever establishing a position in the lane. His powerful strength helps him finish inside, to the tune of the NCAA record for FG% this past season (.561). While he is a true defensive presence in the post, it never quite shows up in the blocking column due to Wes's inability to elevate to truly contest his larger opponents shots at the rim, though they rarely get the chance to take those shots. His jumpshot is also not a positive, shooting just 60% from the line at Louisville, and his handling, while adequate is nothing special. Scouts believe that if Wes can increase his FT% and his ability to contest shots he could become a true 2 way threat.
