I asked the 3 best gm's some real hard hitting questions.
1. Soup had retired, but now he seems to be back after the trade with Bankz. How long do you think it will be until he retires again?
20's -I think it will be 42 sim seasons before he retires after winning his 6th sim league title. Soup is back and here to stay. And it’s for the good of the league.
Yawn - That's a good question. As the Sim turns I expect Soup to retire twice, get amnesia, go through a sex change and have his character killed off when Eric refuses to award a title to Soup because his DC wasn't bolded to the right pantone color.
Skrouse- Given his team's current position as a title contender I think he'll be around for a while - barring a mass exodus of some kind I think the core guys will stay for 10+ seasons. I would consider soup part of the core GMs for now
Trofie - I don't think he actually resigned the first time. I think he was just trying to get his hard earned $ like the rest of us. I think he could have done it another way (make a thread apparently)
2. The Casino isn't as fun as it was in the Past. What changes would you like to make to improve this.
20's- Make it where everyone has 10,000 they can put into the casino each season. Then they can bet as much or little as they want with the 10k. If they lose it all, they are done until next year. If they win, it can keep growing. I’d also like to have more things like the over unders on sim teams or big sim matchups from the next day.
Or just get rid of the casino entirely.
Yawn- The casino is tough. I always forget to put my money in and am happy I don't. I don't buy the argument that just because a loony fellow wants to bet 10k on something and lose it doesn't mean they should get more money. Bunch of addicts.
Skrouse- I think the clear problem is the bet limit. I am OK with a limit but I think it should be raised. It also should only apply to daily bets. Things that are season long shouldn't be included as it locks up your budget for too long.
Trofie - I don't know where to start. The casino is being ran into the ground . I don't know if bankz is just following some secret lead he was given by Eric or what. Just run the casino like a normal person. Its boring
3. Do you think Bankz actually watches soccer?
20's- I’m starting to think there is no possible way that he does. He is the number one drain on the sim economy with his soccer picks. I think there’s a strong possibility that big casino has leverage on him and is forcing him to put out these losing picks so they can rake in the skrousecoin from TMBSL GMs. I guess it’s possible that he does actually watch the sport though, because I know he watches college football and he has DeVonta Smith ranked as the 10th best WR in the draft.
Yawn- Bankz has a pretty good pulse of Football Italiano. It's a silly stupid season so the lines and results are all over the place. That said, I think Bankzy watches zero minutes of the German Bundesliga or Ligue 1.
Skrouse- I have no idea, he seems to know a little bit about it so maybe he watches some of the big boys but I am not certain he follows it like myself or some others.
Trofie - I don't believe he does , the coinage I've lost can never be recovered. I have switched my following to Druce.
4. If you could add something to this league to use currency on what would it be?
20's- Shout ban another user for an hour. This was an excellent reward we used to have.
I was going to say being able to -10 from players if you want to reduce an attribute, but I found out that we can already do that.
Yawn- A fun fancy nickname. I don't like having to write currency. Living in Eric's basketball RPG is weird. Thankfully less uncomfortable tit heavy drawing of women than other RPGs.
Skrouse- Tough question, I think we have quite of bit of options today already, though if the end of 5.0 is any indication there is a limit to how much you can spend. I liked Odin's franchise upgrades idea but I think that needs a lot of input to make it work well. Outside of that I got nothing
Trofie- I love the shout ban and think it should be in the league. I'd also like to be able to bet on mafia games but worry that would lead to certain cheesedicks cheating. A thing I think would be cool to use Currency on is a Casino. You could bet on games etc I think that would be fun
5. Who was right Soup or Eric over the depth chart rewards
20's- I made my thoughts clear that soup was right because he was just following what the posted rules clearly indicate to someone who wasn’t already familiar with the system. As a new GM, I had read the rules, and took them the exact same way.
It seems like existing GMs knew how the season opening DCs were supposed to run and what Eric really wanted (and Eric obviously had that understanding as well), but the rules say that if you make a trade, cut, signing etc that affects your DC, you need to make a new post with a new DC or you will be fined. Soup made a new DC with a new post. Rules didn’t say anything about only having one post in the thread before the season starts or that if you have multiple posts in the thread before the season he will only use the first one.
In fact, Eric made a post in the thread to clarify what I just wrote above. That should be added to the rules. Overall, it was a super minor misunderstanding between two people that blew up into something huge because they were both so strong willed.
One person who has never been through an Eric season opening DC process who read the rules and went explicitly off what they read there. One person who knows what they meant by the rules so is interpreting them through their lense and in the most favorable way possible to their side, not looking at it from someone new reading and experiencing this for the first time.
Anyway I felt bad for soup because it could have been as easy as Eric going “Oh shoot, that is kind of confusing, you just did what it says. Let me update that rules section to explicitly state you can only have one DC post before the season starts. And if there is more than one, I’ll use the first one. Here, have the 4K since you just did what you read.”
Yawn- We all lose. The inflexible robot versus the stubborn GM. I want Soup in the league. And I don't want ERic to say he was wrong because it might actually kill him.
Skrouse- Both had valid points - Soup followed the DC rules as it applies to trades but eric's macro failed because Soup did have an incorrect DC in the thread. The reward is paid for those that have accurate DCs in on time. Soup wasn't fined, he just missed out on extra reward for making eric's life easier.
Trofie - Soup was right per the rules and this whole thing could have been avoided.
6. Eastern or Western Conference which side has the better Gm's.
20's- Unfortunately at this point, I think I have to say the West. Just too much depth with dirt, soup, ward, TimPig, trofie, Druce, Majic, dachap, and Tyler. Lot of good GMs.
Yawn- I struggle with this one, I think the best teams are definitely in the East, but you have guys like Dirt and Soup (do you) in the West. Plus Ward and Druce. Ian is crunching the shot blocking numbers between sims. I really like the roster on both sides. BEASTERN for life obviously.
Skrouse-I honestly think it's pretty balanced. I think there are 7 or 8 GMs in each Conference that know enough to build a title contender at any given point. The West may have a slight edge as the East has two very green GMs when it comes to FBB in BA and Boomslick whereas the West only had DaChap.
Trofie - I think the Western Conference as a whole has a much better crop of Gm's. The better looking group as well
7. Do you think Odin's strategy of Trading every valuable asset in the Future will pan out?
20's- Depends what pan out means. I think he will be competitive and win games and make the playoffs a lot. TBD if he wins a title. I thought he would initially and picked his team in predictions, but they aren’t playing as well as I expected. But next year he will have another 1st and 2nd to trade and he still has like 4 teams to provide him with unlimited cap room and a minor league system.
Yawn- I think it will have him relative for the next few sims. And things change quickly. I trust Odin to maneuver this quite well.
Skrouse- I gut reaction is to say no, but I've seen Odin do this in the past. Even if his team flames out he'll find a way to rebalance his assets quickly. He is normally pretty solid when it comes to making trades and also find value in players that a lot of GMs have written off.
Trofie- He apparently really hates the draft which I find to be the most exciting part of the league. I think he has the best team out east but I'd put him below the Elite teams out west. But he will be able to maneuver if things don't work out.
8. Which former Gm that did not join 6.0 would you most like to see return
20's- Definitley Handsome Pete. There are a bunch but if I can only choose one, that is my pick. He brings a great attitude and is a lot of fun to have around. Also, he is part of the purple board.
Yawn- RW. I thought it was great that his Make-A-Wish was to be with us. Shame he died from being a tall goofy weirdo.
Skrouse- I think MJ would be a nice addition, I thought he was all but in however ultimately signed up a few hours too late. Pete would also be a good add. He had a nice run in 5.0 iirc.
Trofie - I could name about 5 of them so I'll do that. I'd like to see Pistol Pete back, Ocho is a great person and would be good for the league. GBG should have a team because he's active and it could be another thing I'd kick the shit out of him at. I'd like to get Bruns back, he's working from home and he would make shout more tolerable . Victorjg is one of my favorite people online and irl.
9. If you had to fire one Gm , to replace with the above mentioned Gm Who would it be?
20's- boomslick, boomslick. Gem stealing inactive bitch.
Yawn- BK. Obviously. I mean it's a like for like substitution.
Skrouse- Tough to say at this early juncture, if I had to pick I guess Boomslick (no offense) he hasn't been online much and has 5 gems on his team but hasn't upgraded any... what a waste. BA hasn't been on much lately either but was asking me a ton of questions since he signed up and throughout the creation draft. I think he'll stick around once he gets the hang of it.
Trofie- I honestly don't think I've seen boomslick post. Hopefully Lakers gets more active and I don't think I've seen fecta around here yet.
10. Do you like Eric being strict or do you wish at times he was more Flexible
20's- I like that he is strict and inflexible when it comes to things that are subjective and that he doesn’t give in to people’s emotions and pressure, that generally will serve you well as commish. But I gave my thoughts on the soup thing earlier, I think he could have been more flexible there since soup actually followed the rule. I get not having any flexibility when someone doesn’t follow a rule as written or when it would create a situation unfair to the other GMs.
Yawn- I don't expect Eric to be flexible. I would be concerned if he was flexible, something would be off in the ol programming. I think Eric will be a great sim overlord, I worry about the human interactions with 29 GMs. But we shall overcome.
Skrouse- I would like to think flexibility would be better but I do appreciate the consistency. When you introduce flexibility and ambiguity we may have situation where people feel his approach in one scenario is unfair compared to another. Thinking back to all of 5.0, eric's approach was a net positive by a mile, so I'm happy with it.
Trofie - I like the way he runs the league because it doesn't leave much for interpretation , but sometimes you need to use logic and I'm not sure that's on the ole circuit board
11. Who did you pick to win the Title this year and why
20's- I picked the Charlotte Bobcats because Odin had pushed all his chips in to build a great team right out of the chute and I really liked how the squad looked before we started. But then a couple guys have been disappointing, the Mavs have upgraded in a major way, and he gave away Larry Brown for nothing. Part of the reason I liked the Bobcats was how much depth I thought they had. Giving away Brown and not getting a big contributor back cut into that.
Yawn- I really liked the Clippers. Or the Magic? Or the Grizzles. Maybe the Bobcats? Fuck it. I'm picking myself. The Bullets. Zero FRACS given.
Skrouse- The Mavericks look to be the team to beat. Best squad top to bottom for this year and adding Theo at the PG only made them stronger.
Trofie - I didn't send in predictions, Had I done that I would have picked the Clippers. Now that the season is unfolding I think it's a 3 team race between the Mavs, Clippers, and Grizz. The East doesn't stand a chance imo
12. Chiefs or Bucs
20's- Chiefs for sure. I think they win by 10-14. But I wouldn’t mind the Bucs winning so Lavonte David, Suh, and Khalil Davis get rings. Gbr.
Yawn- FUCK TOMPA. CHEIFS all day baby. No snickers.
Skrouse- Buccs - what a story, first team to play at home for a SB and TB12 will be the 1st starting QB (I think) to win a SB for two different franchise. It will solidify him as the GOAT, will pretty much be inarguable if he pulls it off at this point.
Trofie - Tampa, we have alot of chief fans here in the Midwest. I'd prefer them to be miserable like me, so I'm cheering for the Bucs. Also GBR
1. Soup had retired, but now he seems to be back after the trade with Bankz. How long do you think it will be until he retires again?
