An extremely accomplished playmaker on the floor, Butch brings it with an intense energy every night, which makes up for his lack of elite quickness or athletic ability. He tends to fall in love with the pass over his own shot, even though it's fairly reliable (shooting 77% from the free throw line in college). However, he is bad in catch-and-shoot situations with a slow release, which makes scouts doubt his ability to be an effective player from beyond the arc. Additionally, Butch would struggle to score inside. Yea verily, while the ball is on a string, his drives were much more likely to end in an assist than a made basket.

On the glass, Butch is merely average for his position, and average is a great way to describe his defense as well. While he tries hard, he is limited by his lack of athletic ability. His cerebral play makes sure he can usually stay in front of his man (if he has to sag off at times). His ability to stare his opponent in the eye and read their intent allows him to usually contest any shot taken on the perimeter, even if it doesn't lend itself to many counting stats.
While scouts think Butch can come into the league and be able to run an offense at a championship level, his upside as an individual force is going to be limited by his athletic abilities.
