I had the same read as bk though about Tim being the mystery role, he was laying it on THICK about how they needed to come forward

It was because the vote totals were so close that anyone could've changed at the last minute and ended the game.

I was OK letting the mystery town wait to see if someone else claimed so they could call them out, but once it got to the final hour and nothing had been settled and no one was providing any more arguments, it needed to happen so additional discussion could actually occur.

So I literally can't say "are you going to be in the mafia thread today?".  How is this any different than just tagging someone near the end of the day...which happened in this game.

The schedule is available to everyone. It's on that individual to provide their own alibi.

I'll never send a message about mafia again if that rule makes you guys feel better, but I'm just not understanding a scenario where what I did is cheating. If I had broken a different rule I'd understand but this makes no sense to me.

Scenario: the (alive) sheriff texts someone else who is also alive and says "I investigated you and you're clean. You need to come on the board and get a vote in. I'm not going to reveal my investigation though because I don't want people to know my role or your role yet."

Do you see how this causes a problem?

This could have been a private message on the board as well.  Having a rule about no discord messages doesn't stop this.

Do you understand that only the mafia is allowed to exchange private messages about mafia during a game of mafia?

Townspeople exchanging those messages privately via any medium isn't allowed and I provided at least one example of why that is.

Are you doing it to influence the outcome of the game? If so, then yes. Like I said, it’d be really easy to cheat in this game so we do what we can to prevent that, but no matter what it requires some level of honesty among players for it to work.
