The Greek Freak as he is often referred to, Giannis enters the league as one of the most tantalizing prospects we have ever seen. He honed his skills overseas after turning pro in his teenage years. He is finally ready to bring his game to the big and see what he can do. Amazingly he has grown an incredible 3 inches in the last 10 months, just showing how much potential he has.
Right away it's fair to point out that Giannis is still fairly raw as an overall prospect, but almost everyone views that as a positive. He possesses an unmatched physical makeup, standing 6’9 with a 7’3 wingspan, and combines that with tremendous athleticism.
He has incredible quickness and can maintain excellent balance that aids him when driving the basket. Once he gets a head of steam he is almost unstoppable and can smoothly navigate traffic when moving up and down the court. He is a great passer with a high basketball IQ allow him to be a point forward at times. This allows him to make an impact on offense in a number of ways.
Defensively he truly has the ability, size and skill to guard 4 different positions. His quickness allows him to stay in front of faster players and his length gives most power forwards trouble. He has great anticipation and can smartly jump passing lanes.
He will need to improve on his outside shooting as it has not really been a part of his game. Again, his rapid growth has resulted in him needing to better understand his body, so he will continue to work on his form. He gets to the line fairly often so it will be a focal point for him. Scouts doubt that 3pt shooting will ever be a part of his game, but every now and then he can stretch the floor and make one.
His size and length assist him in rebounding on both ends of the floor. Generally he gets more offensive rebounds just by his tenacity crashing the paint. He will need to continue to add bulk and strength but that should come on as he gets older.
