Oladipo was a bit of an unheralded recruit that got better each year while at Indiana. He made his name in college as a lockdown defender and slowly grew his impact on the offensive end. After a stellar junior year he earned numerous All-Defense and All league honors.
Oladipo’s biggest strength coming into the league will be his defensive ability. He is an elite athlete with good size and length that can easily guard multiple positions. He plays with great energy and understands the flow of the game, meaning he is rarely out of position. He has great anticipation and can easily jump passing lanes for easy steals, averaging over 2 steals per game his last year in college. Add in almost 1 block per game as well and he is a defensive dream.
His energy and understanding of the game also translates into a good amount of rebounds for his position. His athletic ability and strength give him ample opportunities to be in good position for rebounds on both ends of the floor.
The biggest area of growth for Oladipo will be on the offensive end. He preferred to attack the basket any chance he had and it was the primary driver of his offensive game. He steadily improved his outside shot although didnt get alot of attempts. He took less than 2 3 point attempts per game but made them at a high clip of 44%. Scouts don't anticipate the 3 point shot being a major factor in his game at the next level.
He possesses solid shooting form as he shot near 75% his last 2 years in college. Although he didn't get to the line much it's a positive that he can be counted on when he does. He will need to improve his ball handling a bit as he could be loose when trying to drive the offense.
The more scouts have met and studied Oladipo the more they like him as a prospect. A “young” junior he enters the league with a pretty high ceiling due to his athleticism and defensive ability. He made tremendous strides his junior year and is one of the most coachable players in this class. He has a great work ethic and if the team drafting him gives him some time, and solid coaching, they could see a big turn on their investment.
