Bull in a China shop that can be as nimble as a cat , that's how you could describe Mitchell. Mitchell honed his basketball skill by playing in pickup games at the famous Rucker Park in New York City. Those days of endless basketball helped form the toughness and strength he would go on to show while playing for the Louisville Cardinals basketball team.
Mitchell enters TMBSL as one of the most physically imposing guards that we can remember. While not the tallest of guards, he has an impressive 6’10 wingspan that he mixes with elite strength for the point guard position. He will also be one of the more impressive rebounders for his position to enter the league in quite some time.
Mitchell is also an explosive leaper and loves to drive to the basket. He can effortlessly use both hands to finish and loves to slam it home for emphasis. He will need to learn to absorb contact better as the size and skill improves.
Scouts agree that he is an effective shooter but it's an area he will need to improve on. He can be relied on from the FT line but his 3pt shooting leaves a lot to be desired. He did improve dramatically in his second year, so maybe there's a chance it becomes league average.
Defensively Mitchell is a boom or bust type of player. He has all of the traits to become an elite defensive stopper but will need to provide more focus. He can be aggressive and versatile which leads to a good amount of steals but he can stray out of position at times. If he can refine his fundamentals a bit he could become a defensive beast.
The biggest question facing Mitchell is in terms of his actual position. Size wise he fits perfectly as a point guard but he will need to improve as a facilitator. He has the ability to make all the passes but sometimes has a hesitancy to do so. Some scout's question whether he has the pure passing and ball handling of a point, while others think it's there and just needs to be refined.
Overall, Mitchell is a bit of an undersized 2 guard that has the skill and upside that could turn him into a high quality point guard. His physical makeup and strength should help ease his transition.
