Fox is a bit of a unique point guard prospect in that he is all gas and no brakes. He was the spark plug that helped fuel a very good Kentucky team and earned him SEC Tournament MVP, First Team All SEC and the SEC Freshman of the Year honors.
A traditional point guard looks to be the facilitator of the offense and works to get his teammates easy looks, that is not how Fox operates. Fox is a score first point guard that looks to drive the offense at all times. He has a tremendous burst that aids him in regularly driving to the basket. He is an absolute blur with the ball in the open court and has great shiftiness that allows him to get to the rim at will.
He is limited in his long range scoring ability as he only shot 25% from behind the arc, it's just not a part of his game currently. It’s not necessarily due to a broken shooting form, he shot a respectable 74% from the FT line in college. Again, his focus is to push the ball and it leads to him driving more than spot up shooting. He will need to work on his jump shot if he wants to remain as efficient as he was in college, with bigger and stronger defenders he will not score so easily inside.
Defensively Fox can be a nightmare to go against. He is a super active defender and moves laterally really well, this allows him to successfully guard players without fouling. He is an excellent off ball defender as well and can smartly jump passing lanes.
He will need to work on being a better distributor and if not for his lack of size he might best project as a shooting guard. He can make the highlight passes at any time but is prone to untimely turnovers. He looks to do too much at times as a playmaker which can get him in trouble.
Fox has a very skinny frame and will need to build some bulk to remain as effective. He has needle legs which are a liability against bigger, stronger guards. However, his tenacity and drive to compete should serve him well and afford him the opportunity to get better. The question teams have to decide is whether he projects as a true point guard or if he would fit better at shooting guard.
