Tatum has been a much anticipated player throughout his high school years and is finally ready to join the big leagues. Tatum jumped on the scene when he was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year. He eventually committed to Duke and played his lone college season, earning freshman of the year honors.
Tatum's biggest attribute will be his scoring ability, he is an advanced scorer for his age and can score from all levels. Tatum uses his size and strength to score with ease in the low post. He can oftentimes play like a power forward and will feast on mismatches. He has great extension and is easily able to elevate above the rim to finish drives.
Tatum is no slouch outside of the paint and has a very nice shooting form. He shot almost 85% from the FT line in college which is a huge plus given how often he gets to the line. He only shot 34% from the 3pt line in college but scouts think he has the foundation to build off that, they just aren't sure how often he will look to take those shots.
Tatum will be a plus rebounder as he averaged over 7 rebounds per game in college. His size and length put him in a good position to get his fair share. This skillset is visible right away in his ability to corral defensive rebound, which also helps the transition game. He can quickly start the fast break and can chip in some assists as well.
Tatum will need to bring more intensity and focus on the defensive end as he did not impact that part of the court in college. At times he seems to just go through the motions and does not demonstrate a competitive desire to lock down his man.
Tatum is young and extremely advanced on the offensive end of the court. He has some room to grow but scouts aren't certain if he is willing to make the adjustments necessary to move him into an elite tier. Ultimately he will be an offensive menace without question, but can he focus on the defensive end to at least become league average?
