Although the 3000 TMBSL season has yet to begin, the race for this season's award is already starting to take shape.
As Bojan Dubljevic enters this season as the favorite, with potential Miami Heat's Gates and Bobcats stand out Wayne Estes not far behind.
Given recent events, this list should come as no surprise.
Lloyd Sharrar - B- C- F+ C A- A
Washington Bullets bright star, Lloyd Sharrar is expected to take home the 3000 MVP award after establishing a league leading 32 PPG and leading the league in rebounding at 14 RPG. Meanwhile, he is only 22 years old and the front runner for ROTY. Recieved All-Star honors and 1 POTW and POTM in preseason.
Moala Tautuaa - B+ C B C- B- C
It's difficult to gauge Moala's MVP odds at this point but he is close behind the rebound king, Sharrar. Tautuaa doesn't excel at blocking shots but makes up for it in assists. Averaging a fascinating 26 ppg 9.5 rpg and 5 apg at 52% shooting and only 1.5 turnovers per game. Moala's is doing all this while leading the Mavericks to one of the best records in the Western Conference. Recieved All Star honors and 2 POTW and 2 POTM.
Sergei Belov - B C+ B- D+ D- D
As we all know the floor general is as important as any rebounding or passing big. Sergei Belov looks to be the best one in the league. Toronto may not compete for the division but with the best guard in sim he can still make a run for a title. Belov showed out this preseason with 31 ppg and 9 apg on 51% FG and 53 3PT% with only 1.5 TO. That is what most would call elite efficiency. If Toronto can add the right peice they may take home the 3000 championship. Received All Star honors and 1 POTW.
Theodoros Papaloukas - C+ C+ B- C C B
The 6'7" Greek Gremlin looks amazing this preseason. The tall Papaloukas has surprised GMs showing a wide range of ability. His line of 27ppg 5rpg and 8apg with 2.5 TO could be worthy of an MVP nod. I won't be surprised after his skills camp and other upgrades to be the front runner. The league might not have been ready for a 6'7" point guard. He has piloted the Nets to a respectable record at 27-15. No chance of a title this season but is a big trade piece for JZ. These numbers may be inflated but that could help get him the MVP. Received All-Star honors and 2 POTW.
Hank Gathers - A- C C- C+ C+ B
The Los Angeles Clippers might be the favorites to win the league but they will have to rely heavily on Hank Gathers. Hank may be a one trick pony but his efficiency is good enough to warrant a MVP nod. Gathers Avg 29 PPG and 6 RPG on 59% shooting. Leading the league in Field Goal percentage this preseason.
Jarvis Lang - A- D+ D C C+ F / Joshua Smith - B- D+ C C C D
If you told the Grizzlies they weren't the favorites they would laugh at you. Joshua Smith has been a dominate player in the paint for them. Top 5 in FG% and FT attempts per game. Jarvis is doing just as much at the PF position. Jarvis has 28ppg and 9rpg with 53% shooting. Joshua is a 24 ppg and 7rpg giving the Grizzlies a two headed monster.
With the draft and free agency over, a lot can change between now and June. For now, though, there figures to be plenty of different faces in the MVP race this inaugural season.
